Chapter 11
CHAPTER 11
Sienna
" W hat are you wearing tonight, Cara?" Margot walks right into our room without knocking, giving me her usual sneer before she whips around and then carries on with her conversation like I'm not even in the room.
"I think I'm going to wear my red dress. Do you think your brother will like it?"
Hasn't Cara figured out by now that Hunter is just using her to try and make me jealous? He's been coming over every night, showing up to our room, and pulling her in for a kiss, while he stares right at me. And when I roll my eyes and grab my stuff to leave, he practically shoves her away like he's pissed I'm not bothered by his display. Even if he wasn't intentionally using her to get back at me or try to get me back, I don't understand what she could possibly see in him. He's a loser with no plans after college other than to come back and party with the frat.
"I think my brother will love anything you wear." Margot turns and gives me a side glance.
Nope. Still not bothered. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that we're having a social with the Omega Chis tonight, which means Matt is going to be here. If the event wasn't mandatory, I'd go to the library and study, but we're all required to be present.
"So, did he ask you to the Halloween Bash yet?" Margot asks.
"Not yet, but it's still three weeks away." Cara quickly tries to play it off like it's no big deal, but in Hunter's world, that means he's still deciding whether she's good enough in bed for him to take her as his date. If he hasn't asked by now, I'm guessing the answer is a no.
"I'm sure he will." Even Margot doesn't sound convinced of the fact . "I'm hoping by the end of the night, I'll have secured a date for it. I think Chase is super hot. Do you think Stella will be mad if I go for him? They only went on one date."
Does she really have to ask that question? Stella's supposed to be her ride-or-die. No, Margot shouldn't make a play for him. Jeez, she's such a bitch.
"Yes, I think Stella will have a problem with it." Cara nods. "She's still totally crushing on him. What about Matt? He's like the next hottest guy in the house, after your brother, of course."
Matt is so much better looking than Hunter, it's not even funny.
"He was such a bore on our date," Margot huffs. "And if he's a virgin, he has no clue how to please a girl, so I'm definitely passing."
She's wrong. Just his words alone had me melting into a puddle of desperation. His dirty mouth is enough to get off on. Add that to the intensity that was rolling off him when he was masturbating, and I'm pretty sure he'd be a beast in bed. And since he's a virgin, whoever he ends up with is going to get to have fun exploring everything with him. But…that's not going to be me, so I need to tuck the thought away. I'm not good enough for him. He wants a girl like Lexie.
"I think I'll just put my feelers out and see who takes the bait."
Margot doesn't even care who she fucks, she just wants to make sure she doesn't miss out on the hottest event of the year. Everyone on campus has been talking about the Halloween Bash. Apparently, it's the biggest one on campus, but only invitees get to attend. Which means I won't be going.
It won't be the first time I'm not included in something. Jaxon used to host the Fright Bash every year, and I never got an invitation. Except for last year, but that was only because I basically bribed him for one.
"If you don't get asked, I'm sure Hunter will let you come."
"I doubt it." She shakes her head. "He's mad at me because I wouldn't…" She cuts herself off, suddenly looking like she said something she wasn't supposed to, then is quickly stuttering through some lame excuse, which is so obviously a lie. "He's mad because I wouldn't let him pick out my mother's birthday present last weekend. I just didn't think he'd do a good job, so I got her something for him to give her."
Bullshit, but I really don't care why he's mad at her. Still, Cara seems to. There's a skeptical look on her face as she watches Margot closely. That was one of the things I liked about Cara. She's smart. "He told me his dad got her a new Porsche and said it was from all of you."
I look to Margot, and her cheeks turn even redder. She knows she's stepped right into her pile of shit, and it looks like she doesn't know how to get herself out of her own stench. Now, I'm awfully curious as to what she's hiding.
"Yeah, that was her main gift. But of course, that wasn't from us, so we got her something too."
"What'd you guys get her?" Cara's hands cross over her chest, and I can see the wheels spinning in her mind. Maybe now she'll see Margot for who she really is: a fake.
When the long pause is followed by a stuttered response, it's even more obvious. "I need to go get ready for tonight. I'll see you later."
She's quick to leave and I glance over at Cara who's staring at the door, looking like she's been betrayed. "What do you think she's hiding?"
Her question catches me off guard. She hasn't spoken to me in two weeks.
"I don't know," I tell her. "But she was definitely lying. You shouldn't trust her, Cara."
She looks over, meeting my eyes, and for a second I think maybe she's realized that I'm not the bad guy, but then…it's gone.
"I'm sure it's just family stuff that she doesn't want to get into in front of you. I bet if you weren't in the room, she would've told me."
She can live in denial all she wants, but Margot is not a good person, and she's clearly keeping something from Cara.
"I'm sure you're right." I nod. At least I can say I tried. Whatever happens is on her now, and it's not my problem.
She gives me another look, like she doesn't like the fact that I'm agreeing with her. That's because deep down, or maybe not as deep as she'd like it to be, she knows that I'm merely trying to placate her. I go into my closet and pull out the red dress I was intending to wear tonight, but since she said she wanted to wear red, I'm going with something else.
"If you want to wear this tonight, it will look phenomenal on you. I definitely think Hunter won't be able to resist you if you pair it with some black heels."
She looks at the thing then back up, and the sneer on her face twists tighter. "I'd rather show up in a potato sack than borrow anything of yours."
Her intended jab hits, but I don't show the pain. And now, I've changed my mind. I'm going to wear it tonight and look killer in the thing. We'll see exactly who that asshole of a boyfriend she's dating looks at. Though, the only one I truly want to wear it for, won't even be looking in my direction.
