Tracker’s features twisted with guilt before he quickly shuddered his expression.

“Well? You have some explaining to do.” I needed to know where all this was coming from.

Finally, he sighed loudly. “Because I was asked to carry out the hit.”

“I'm not sure.” I wanted to be honest. One thing was, we did not have much time. I needed to get her safe. I had never tried to buy out a contract before. That was my next step. I had never heard of it being done before, but I had to try .

I took my work phone out and typed a reply to the info they sent me:

I waited as the minutes went by. I could tell by the stricken look on Cait's face that she was still trying to wrap her head around the fact that I was a murderer.
