Chapter Eleven

Cait

I could not wait for Tracker to get back to the hotel. I missed him desperately. When the door opened, I expected him to grab me up in his arms and hold me tight. What I got was shocking.

He came in with a dark look, stormed over to me, and placed his hand around my neck slamming me against the wall.

“Who are you? What are you doing?” he yelled in my face.

“What are you talking about?” I sputtered out, hardly able to breathe. He was glaring at me. I really did not know what was wrong. “Please, I can't breathe.”

Finally, he relented and let go of my throat. He started pacing the small room. “Who would put a hit out on you?”

“A hit? You mean like a kill me hit?” I was shocked. “How the fuck would I know?”

“Think, Cait! Who wants you dead?” He shook me by my arms. Sometimes I hated being a girl because I burst into tears. It was the thought of someone wanting me dead, but the way he was behaving that gutted me.

“I really don't know,” I sniffled .

Tracker

I was thrown aback when I saw Cait's picture and details on my phone as my next target. What the fuck had she gotten herself into?

“All I do is work,” she murmured, drying her eyes.

Oh fuck, it had to be her work. That fucking Senator. They must be trying to get to him through her. She had been seen in pictures with him when they had dated early in his campaign.

Now it was making me think. I sent a call to Olly to get the police report on my brother's car accident. In the meanwhile, I talked to Cait. “I think they are coming after your boss.”

“Wait, who is coming after my boss? And why put a hit out on me?” She looked thoroughly confused.

“Your boss is rubbing a lot of influential people the wrong way. To get to him, they are coming after people close to him.”

“I'm not the only one close to him.” A quizzical expression had her brows pinching together and her teeth dug into her lip. “Well shit, I guess after what happened to Clay, I am his senior aide.”

I looked at her, felt bile in the back of my throat, “Who is Clay?”

“He worked with me. He died last month in a freak accident while hiking in the hills with a group of people. There was a small rockslide right where he was standing, sending him right off the side of a cliff.” She started to tear up again. Now was not the time to tell her that sounded like a hit to me.

My phone rang. Olly was quick with my info. “They ruled it an accident, but they did note the break, power steering, and gas lines were all severed. They determined it could have happened as a result of the car hitting the guard rail.” I knew that was bullshit. They took a hit out on my brother. This was all making sense now.

“Wait a minute,” Cait looked at me, “how do you know someone took a hit out on me?”
