8. Chapter 8
Chapter eight
H aven nearly spit out the tea she was drinking.
"I'm sorry what do you mean, realm ?" She loudly blurted.
"Alright dear lets stay calm, give me a chance to explain" Binah looked startled, as if she wasn't the one who had just told them they were in another realm.
Haven could only try to hold her mouth closed and glance at Roman who looked almost as surprised as she was.
"It is simple" Binah started, "When you were lost in the woods in your North Carolina you must have stumbled through a pathway that brought you here. To the fae realm."
Haven could hardly contain herself, a pathway, a fae realm? None of that made sense. Things like that weren't possible, sure something weird had happened but stumbling through a portal into a fae realm? That was absurd.
Haven started to protest, earning a sharp glance from Binah. Roman, to her surprise, kept quiet, "My dear if you let me continue I believe I could explain." Binah said.
Haven nodded, although she wasn't sure what this woman could say that would sound less ridiculous than a fae realm.
"A very long time ago the fae lived among humans. We lived peacefully for a long while until the humans started to fear us, for what we could do" Binah paused, Haven was sure the look on her face was nothing but shock and disbelief.
"A war was started and it lasted many years, thousands died on both sides. Our seven fae rulers came together in an attempt to save what was left of the fae. While some fae had extraordinary powers, we were severely outnumbered. An idea was born to create a world where the fae could live in peace, a world without humans. A new realm."
Haven almost fell out of her chair, this was all so much to take in, yet she found herself clinging to Binahs every word.
"There have always been whispers of other realms so it was not something that seemed impossible. Some time passed before our rulers found a witch who could create a spell to give us the world you see now. But it would come at a cost, like everything does. All but one of the great leaders was willing to pay this cost. In the end, the majority won out and they began the preparations to create our realm."
Binah paused and refilled both Haven and Romans teacups before continuing ,
"In total, the creation of the spell took about a month. There were some fae that were hesitant to come to this new world, especially after they heard what the cost would be." Binah paused again. Roman impatiently motioned for her to continue,
"You see, the fae would head into this new world alone, their rulers would be allowed two weeks to visit their new realm and set everything straight before they had to leave back to the human realm. If not, the spell holding our realm together would crumble, destroying our realm and everyone in it. The rulers won over the fae people with the fact that even though they themselves would not be able to lead them into this scary new place, the witch had assured them that their children would in time, take over and rule."
Binah cleared her throat, took a sip from her teacup and continued,
"Even though only three of our seven rulers had children at the time, it was enough to convince the people. The witch had promised that in time, children of the remaining four rulers would be born and find their way to this realm and take over as King or Queen. Several portals were left throughout the human realm for the future fae children to come through. And so, our realm was created, seven lands for the seven rulers."
Haven's jaw was on the ground, she was sure of it. All of this sounded like something straight out of one of her fantasy novels or the bedtime stories her parents had told her as a child.
Binah continued, "Since then, only two rulers have been left without their children taking over, all others have been accounted for and are now ruling in their rightful places. The lands without children from their royal bloodline are being ruled over by those in command at the time our realm was created .
One person rules over both lands, the reasons are unnecessary to get into right now but it is important to understand who holds the power. His official title is crown regent. Unfortunately, since it has been so long with no sign of the missing royals we have presumed them dead, most likely from being away from their magics too long. Which means the crown regent,"
Roman interrupted whatever Binah was going to say by asking,
"Wait, what do you mean, ‘being away from their magics'?"
Haven couldn't believe that that was what he was wondering about. Not the fact that there could potentially be a whole other realm that existed and was apparently full of fae? Haven still hadn't decided if this was one big hallucination or not. Maybe she actually died when she fell and this was some sort of twisted afterlife.
"Very good question" Binah said with a nod towards Roman. "When our realm was created it took with it most of the fae magic that had been contained within the human realm. Some fae decided to stay in the human world rather than brave the new realm so trickles of power stayed with them, but for the most part all of our magics and power was transferred into our new realm"
"Oh" Was all Roman had to say.
Binah looked between the two teenagers sitting at the table with her. Haven could see the wheels turning in her head, Binah was clearly trying to decide whether or not to say something, to add one more piece of information into what she had already dumped on them.
"What?" Haven asked.
"Well all of the information brings us to where we are now, here sitting at this table" Binah appeared to be waiting for them to connect the dots.
"Wait, you don't mean?" Haven questioned.
Binah nodded, "Yes my dears. What I have told you and my being here tells us that you are not just some random lost kids, you are fae. In fact, you are more than that, you are fae royalty."
Roman looked like he might pass out. Haven felt exactly how he looked.
