10. Chapter 10

Chapter ten

S tartling from a deep sleep, I knew. Down to my bones I knew that the time so many of us had been waiting for was here. She was here. I had to alert everyone.

Quickly sliding out of bed, I yanked my shirt over my head and sped out the door. Running down the castle halls, I headed to where he was.

Jostling him into waking, I said,

"It's time"

Of course he knew exactly what I meant. We had been planning this for years. Everything was finally starting to come together, all the pieces of the puzzle were starting to click into place and finally we could see a picture.

He sat up groggily. I knew how much this meant to him. After everything he'd been through at the hands of his father, he deserved a win. One final win to save the realm.

Together we stood and went over to his window that overlooked the sprawling grounds.

Grounds that if all went according to plan, she would soon be walking across.

It was quiet and dark, it had been that way for a long time. Even when the sun was shining and birds were chirping there was a suffocating air surrounding this place that had once been so beautiful, not that either of us were ever there to see it.

It was our hope that the two of us, along with others, would be able to bring this place back to what it once was, or was supposed to be. We wouldn't be able to do that without her. Hopefully she survived long enough to take her throne and eliminate the poison that had seeped into the walls here.

Unfortunately, neither him, nor I, would likely be around to enjoy the life she'd be able to give our people. Dismantling the horrors of our kingdoms would likely bring us down right along with them.
