11. Chapter 11

Chapter eleven

B inah set Haven and Roman up on two cots in her small spare room. The cots weren't overly comfortable but with a nice blanket they would be more than fine for a night. Haven was just glad they weren't still lost in a forest.

Binah had quickly offered a bite to eat, shown them where the bathroom was and sent them to bed. Haven had been pleasantly surprised to find out that even in another realm indoor plumbing was a thing. Especially seeing as all of Binahs lights were candles and the floor of her cottage was dirt. Binah must have seen the look on Havens face because she smiled and said,

"Tomorrow "

Whatever that meant.

Now, Haven was lying on her cot looking at the candle lit lamp Binah had set on the small wooden dresser next to the door. She had been tossing and turning for what felt like hours. Haven wouldn't be surprised to see the sun start to peek through the window. Blowing out a breath, she crawled from her cot and walked past where Roman was snoring softly. Quietly slipping through the door, she padded down the dim hall to the kitchen intent on getting a sip of water.

Haven paused when she came to the doorway of the kitchen. She had not thought Binah would still be awake at this hour, but there she was, sitting at a small round kitchen table with another candle lamp at its center.

"Hello" Haven spoke softly.

"Hello there, come sit child." Binah gestured to the empty chair across from her.

"I hope I did not wake you, I just couldn't sleep."

Binah responded with a soft smile,

"Nonsense, don't worry about it. I figured you might need a little more guidance before you would be able to rest"

Haven felt like a little more guidance might not be the best way to put it. She definitely had a long way to go before she accepted this as something that was actually happening. Even now, she wondered when she was going to wake up, this all having been a very intense dream.

"I just don't understand" Haven mumbled

"What is it that you don't understand?" Binah asked gently, she reached across the table and rested her hand on Havens arm. Her touch was very comforting, already helping to calm Havens anxious mind. Binah's attention felt like what Haven would imagine a grandmothers attention felt like.

"Any of it, all of it" She said, "My parents were perfectly normal. They both had normal jobs, they had date nights, my dad got my mom flowers, we went on family trips; everything about their lives seemed so normal. Until my dad died, everything was perfect. We were friends with our neighbors, I had a big room with a pink canopy over my bed until I was thirteen, my parents bought me whatever books I wanted. I understand that kids don't know everything about their parents, but for them to have not only secret lives, but to not even be human? It just seems too crazy to believe."

Something Haven said seemed to have unsettled Binah. Now, she was looking at Haven with a strange look in her eye, as if connecting some dots in her head.

"You say your father died?"

"Yes, about two years ago. It was a car accident."

Binah seemed to consider this for a few moments before saying,

"Well, it appears as though nothing is as it seems"

"What is that supposed to mean?" Haven asked

"Nothing you need to concern yourself with just yet. For now, you should head to bed and try to get some rest. You have a big day tomorrow."

Binah got up swiftly, before Haven could ask anymore questions, and exited the kitchen. Why did she have to be so cryptic? What was so big about tomorrow? Granted, any day spent in a supposed fae realm was a big day for Haven.

Her thoughts had Havens mind spinning in circles as she got up to get the glass of water she had originally come for. She hoped that tomorrow would bring some answers. Although, if Binah continued to be as evasive and cryptic as she was just now, Haven had a feeling those answers might take a while, if she ever got them at all.
