33. Enough Is Enough

33. Enough Is Enough

Dessin

I glance over my shoulderto see Ruth sitting by herself in the commissary.

It’s a similar sensation to my heart getting caught on a bush of thorns, and no matter how much I try to free it, only more damage is done to that soft tissue.

Why do I feel so fucking bad for her?

She should sit by herself.

She’s a goddamn traitor. I’ve never seen my girl so numb, so completely shattered by this new truth. Then again, I didn’t get to see her after I died.

“We’re getting the fuck out of here,” I announce quietly to the group.

Warrose barely lifts those hazel irises to me, picking at his food the way we all are. Unable to eat even if we really wanted to. There’s a Fun House tonight that we should prepare for mentally and physically. But it’s as though we’ve all taken a rigorous beating to the lungs.

“I’ve mapped it out. But there are a couple of holes that need clarity.”

At this, Skylenna peers up at me through stormy green eyes, swollen and ice cold.

“The magnets in our ears,” she says quietly.

“Yes. That, and I need to see blueprints for the outside of this prison. There aren’t any windows. I have no clue what we would be running into as far as security goes.”

She doesn’t say it, but an idea flickers in those sad, emerald eyes.

“What?” I press.

Skylenna’s focus bounces between both of my eyes. Back and forth. “What if a sentinel got us that information?”

I huff. “I don’t see why they would.”

Despite the desolation filling her veins, she smirks.

My eyebrows go up. “No.”

“You don’t even know what I’m going to say.”

“Even I know what you were going to say,” Warrose scoffs.

“If I can trick a priest into doing my bidding in the asylum, a sentinel will be no problem,” she argues.

“A priest is easy, baby. Their religion and beliefs are their weaknesses. They’ll do anything if you convince them that God has commanded it.”

“A man with a penis is even easier. Especially when they’re deprived in a prison.”

My blood boils so violently, steam practically rises off my skin. Does she believe, even for a second, that I would be okay with this idiotic suggestion?

“What did you just say?” I can feel the fibers of my teeth scrape away as I grind my jaw back and forth.

“I’m going to seduce a guard.” She’s…serious. My stomach dips at the sight of her blank, stony face.

“Like hell you are!” I half explode, gripping the ends of the table.

“You don’t think I can do it?” she asks with narrowing eyes.

“I—well, I…”

Of course, she can pull it off. She’s long and lean. Her breasts are perfect and heavy in a man’s hands. She has this glowing honey hair that I regularly envision balling in my fist as I thrust my cock into her from behind. Of course, she could seduce any man with a proclivity for beautiful women.

“I’m not spending any more time in this prison with her,” she says coldly, daring me to disagree with her.

I study that sharp face for a moment. Trace the dark smudges under her eyes. Those bee-stung, swollen lips. She looks like death caught on fire. I don’t have it in me to refuse her anything.

“Look,” I sigh heavily. “Get the information from a sentinel. But please, don’t take the Fun House offer given to women that would rather please a soldier.”

“Why not?”

Well, for one, the image alone makes me light up in a jealous frenzy to cut someone to pieces for touching the woman I love.

“If I have to kill sentinels for this, I can’t guarantee it won’t result in me on the chopping block.”
