Chapter Six

The next day, Sara spent the morning at the ranch helping clean stalls and brushing the animals. She kept herself busy when she got home, but every minute seemed to drag on. When she heard a truck pull into her driveway, she exhaled in relief that he was finally here, but then her stomach cramped because of nerves and desire.

That surprised her the most. All she had to do was think about Grant, and her body softened, and her nipples peaked into hard little points.

The dogs barked when he knocked on the door.

Sara rushed to it, opened it, and smiled. "Hi," she said.

He looked down at her with so much masculine intensity it made her already achy body spasm in need.

"Hi, yourself. Are you ready to go, Sweetheart?"

She loved it when he called her that. Her husband had never been into endearments.

"Yes."

She stepped out and turned her back to lock the door. A shudder raced through her when she felt a wall of heated muscle press against her back. Her hands started shaking.

"Jesus, woman. When I get my hands on you, I won't be letting you go."

"Okay," she whispered.

He grunted, took the keys from her hands, and locked her door before handing them back to her. She put them in her purse before he took her hand.

He silently led her to his truck and opened the door. He lifted her in and leaned over to buckle her belt. He didn't straighten but stared intently into her eyes.

His finger came up and caressed her bottom lip. "I want to kiss you in the worst way, but I'm afraid I won't be able to stop."

She wanted to burst out and say, "okay," but the way he was making her feel was scaring her a little.

He cursed under his breath before releasing her. He shut her door, walked around the truck, and got in. After he drove out of the driveway, he took her hand and didn't release it until they pulled into the ranch.

He parked in the same place, came around, and lifted her out.

"I brought some treats. Can I sit with him for a while?" she asked.

"Yes, but I'll be watching."

Sara nodded. "Do you have a name for the dog?"

Grant shook his head. "No."

"Will the owner of the ranch name him?"

"No, we can. In fact, I'll leave that up to you."

She smiled. "Really?"

"Yeah."

"Okay. It might not be today. I might have to spend more time with him to find what fits him."

"Take your time," he said.

She waved as she walked away. She sat where she had the day before and with her back to the dog.

"Hi, Baby," she crooned. "I'm back just like I told you I'd be. I have some treats for you."

She opened the baggie she carried, and without turning, tossed one to him. The dog sniffed it a few times before he put it in his mouth. She saw his ears perk up with interest.

"You definitely have some German shepherd in you, Baby. Once we get you healthy, you'll be huge."

Sara tossed a few more but made it so he had to move toward her to get the treat. Within ten minutes, the dog was beside her and taking the treats from her hand. The whole time, she murmured softly. She let it smell her thoroughly before trying to pet the top of his head. The dog stiffened at first and then lay against her. She was able to pet his side and flank.

"You are a sweety, aren't you?" She studied him. "You look like a Thor to me. What do you think? Do you like that name?"

His tail thumped a few times.

She smiled. "Then Thor it is."

His head came up abruptly, and she looked to where Thor was staring. Grant stood several yards away with his hands on his hips.

Thor scrambled back under the deck. She sighed, stood, and brushed the grass from her ass as she walked toward him.

"Hi," she said.

"Hi. Did you know you've been sitting there for over an hour and a half?" he asked.

Her eyes widened. "I'm sorry. Time slipped away from me. I should have known because my back and legs are stiff from sitting too long."

His scowl darkened. "I don't want you hurt."

"I'm not. I'm just old."

She grinned when he relaxed.

"You look like you're about twenty years old," he stated. "I think people will start to think I'm your father."

"Oh, come on. I don't look that young."

He grunted and held out a hand. "Are you hungry?"

"Yes."

"Let's go see Dream Catcher first."

Her smile widened. "I'd love to."
