Chapter Five

Sara couldn't stop grinning. She was nervous as hell but so happy. She never thought she'd find a man she'd want to take a chance on. She figured she'd be alone forever, and she'd come to terms with it.

Her nerves started to rise as they pulled into her driveway. Grant parked and shut off the truck. She was at a loss for what to do next.

"Look at me," Grant said.

She turned his way and saw his gentle smile, which calmed her instantly.

"You're okay, Sweetheart. I don't expect anything."

Her lips turned down. "You don't want me that way?" She couldn't believe she just said that. She'd never been so embarrassed. She pressed her hands to her face to hide the blush she knew covered it. "God, I'm sorry. That was stupid. Please forget I said that. I still have things to learn, I guess." She tried to laugh, but she knew her face was red, and she couldn't look him in the eyes.

"Look at me," he repeated.

Sara swallowed and turned to him again.

"Please don't be embarrassed. I want us to be able to say anything to each other. Now, to answer your question."

She opened her mouth, but one look from him, and her mouth slammed shut. There was the Dom personality she'd read about. The piercing eyes that could make her body hum and her cervix spasm in need.

"Yes, I want you very much. So much my body aches, but this was our first date. I don't want to scare you away, Sweetheart."

Sara exhaled and nodded. "Thank you."

He reached out and squeezed her hand. "Let's get you inside…"

"I can do i…"

"There's a lot about me you don't know yet, but you'll learn quickly. I need to be in charge of you. I need to take care of you. Can you let me do that?"

Damn, she was in trouble. She'd never had anyone want to take care of her, and it could become addicting. "Yes."

"Good girl. Wait for me."

Grant came around the truck, opened her door, and unbuckled her belt before lifting her out. He set her down. His arm wrapped around her waist and led her up to the front door. There was still enough light out so she could find her keys quickly. He gently took them from her and opened the door. He ushered her in before handing her the keys.

He stood just outside the door. "Do you want to come in?" she asked.

"Not this time. I want my hands on you too much. We'll know the right time for us, so I'm not going to push it."

She nodded and tried to hide her disappointment.

"I do need one kiss before I go," he said.

He stepped forward and cupped her face in his hands. Her eyes slid closed as his head descended. The first touch of his lips sent what felt like electrifying sparks through her body, and the way he tensed and the little moan that escaped told her he felt something similar.

After a moment, he lifted his head, stared at her, and then kissed her again. This time was hotter. He seemed to want to touch every part of her, and she let him. One of her hands had a hold of his wrist, and the other was on his waist. She was not going to put a stop to something that felt that amazing.

The next time he lifted his head, he cursed and took a step back without releasing her face.

"Jesus, Sweetheart. When I get you under me, we're going to burn up the bed."

She licked her lips and almost moaned at the taste of him on her tongue. "Is that good?"

He chuckled. "Oh, yeah. It's very good."

She nodded and waited for his next move. He started to pull her closer, cursed, and took a step away.

"I need to leave, or I'm afraid I'll do something I'm not sure you're ready for," he said.

Sara nodded.

"Lock the door," he said gruffly.

"I will. Thank you for dinner," she said.

"It was my pleasure. Can I pick you up tomorrow? We can go see the dog and then do something."

"What time?" she asked.

"What time works best for you?"

"Afternoon, I think."

He nodded. "Okay, I'll be here around three, all right?"

"That will work."

"Okay. I'm going to head out. Stay safe."

She waved. "Drive safe."

She closed the door and locked it. She turned to see her dogs waiting for attention. She slid to the floor and held her arms out. They both hurried to her and started kissing her as their tails wagged furiously.

"Oh, you guys. Am I doing the right thing? He's the type of man I've always desired, but now I'm afraid he'll be too much for me to handle."

Lacy whined.

Sara smiled. "Yeah, I know. I have to stop being a wimp and give the man a chance. It's just that I feel Grant could hurt me so easily, and I'm afraid if that happened, I wouldn't ever try again. I don't want to spend the rest of my life alone."
