Chapter 41

A little over a week after the baby was born, Haisley and Peach went over to Andy and Mel’s place. They could hear the baby crying before they even got to the door.

“You ready for that?” Haisley asked.

Peach blew out a breath. “They do that. I’m okay with it. Kids don’t understand. It’s up to us to try to help them.”

The door opened, and Andy was there with the baby in hand. "Hey, come on in. Mel is in the shower, and this little one doesn't like me as much as she does Mel."

"Of course not," Haisley said. "You don't have boobs."

Andy chuckled and led them back into the main room. “You ready for this?” Andy asked Peach.

“Yeah. I mean, it’s not personal. And I can survive a little screaming.”

"Truth," Andy said. "Erin is a good baby. I mean, a few weeks ago, she had a good setup and then was evicted from her great home and thrust into this place."

Peach nodded, and Haisley laughed. "You guys are funny. "

"It's true, though," Andy said. "I mean, this place is too hot or cold, and Erin has to wait for food. In her mommy's belly, she had food delivered without any fee. Now she has to deal with me." The baby yawned and stretched before pulling her arms close and sucking on her fist.

“She is cute,” Peach said.

“Yeah. I’m happy. I never thought I would really do this. And now here I am with a house, a wife, and a baby girl.”

“You’re a lucky man,” Peach said.

“So are you.”

Haisley heated at the compliment. She’d never thought of herself as that good of a catch. Their relationship hadn’t started the best way, but now they were on solid ground. She was thrilled. Everything was going her way.

Mel came out and hugged Haisley tight, thanking her again for helping with the delivery. Erin was asleep, so Andy slipped her into her bassinet before kissing Mel on the cheek. They both seemed so good together.

She and Peach stayed for about an hour and then headed home. This was more than she ever thought she would have.

Once home, they were about to start making dinner when Peach received a call. It was someone from the State Department. He put the phone on speaker, and Haisley listened to the person on the other end.

“Mr. Barclay, we have answers about your parents’ death.”

“Okay. What happened?”

“Your parents found information about a trafficking ring. They had stumbled upon a man who was responsible for taking women from the USA overseas. I think your father realized what they’d found, and they were leaving. But the man realized they knew who he was and what he did, so he decided he couldn’t let them go. They didn’t really go looking for trouble. They’d called someone at the embassy and were trying to leave the country.”

Haisley moved closer to Peach, putting her hand on his tense leg. He blew out a breath, and she could see the pain in his eyes.

“The man, is he in custody?”

"He is. It looks like he's going to be put away for a long time. I know that doesn't take away your pain. However, the Colombian government is shutting down the business. I can't guarantee that it won't start up again, but for now, it's closed. The woman your parents were trying to rescue is safe. She has been rescued and is heading back to Georgia in a few days."

“Thank you,” Peach said.

“We’ll be in contact if we have more information.”

“Thank you.”

Peach ended the call and put his head in his hands. Haisley knew words wouldn’t help, so she held him tight. His father hadn’t been looking for trouble. He’d just stumbled into it.

“He didn’t drag my mom into danger on purpose,” Peach said.

“That’s good, right?”

“Yes. I mean, what he did wasn’t smart, but he wasn’t trying to be me. He realized he was in over his head and was leaving.”

“I’m sorry he wasn’t able to escape.”

Peach moved and dropped to the floor in front of her. “When I knew something happened, I was so worried. You mean the world to me. Seriously, will you be my wife?”

Haisley leaned forward and cupped his face. "You mean the world to me. I don't just love you. I'm in love with you. Yes, I want to be your wife. "

He pulled her up and pressed his lips to her mouth, sealing their promise to each other. He didn’t stop there. Peach picked her up and carried her to his bed, stripping off his clothes in seconds while she stared up at him.

Slowly, he stripped off her clothes as he kissed and touched her, taking her to the heights of desire. His lips on her body left her shaking for more. When his tongue licked over her slit, she moaned with pleasure.

They'd both visited the doctor in the last week, and both had been tested, so condoms were no longer needed. She wanted to feel all of him, knowing that they would really be skin-to-skin tonight.

"I love you." Haisley snuggled closer, glad that she'd found Peach. He'd changed everything for her and made life wonderful. She would love him forever, and she knew he would love her just as deeply.
