Epilogue One Raine
Y ou've got to be kidding me. I can't believe what I'm seeing. I snort when my big brother groans, his head sinking to his chest.
"The great Colt Showers trashed off his ass. What could possibly cause that," I snicker.
He raises his head, his cold gray eyes lined with pink and swollen until they look like he's been punched in the head.
"I know that you think this is a good idea. That just because you're here for this, you should fuck with me….I'm here to tell you that you shouldn't. It's not the right time and you might find yourself holding a tiger by the tail."
"I don't know about a tiger. You look more like a washed-up, bedraggled stray."
"Once again, I wouldn't."
My smile fades and I groan. "What is going on with you, Colt? I'm trying to enjoy my last day as a free woman and you're cluttering up my house with your gray clouds and the fumes wafting off of you are enough to knock over a teamster."
"I've got a little problem, Raine. I don't know what to do about it either."
"What is it?" I swear he looks like it's the end of the world.
"I met someone and we had a…a thing. And now she's pregnant. And it's mine."
"Are you sure?"
"She's never been with anyone else. She was a virgin and it's only been about seven weeks since then. I don't think she waited all this time and then she went buck-wild after her time with me. She knows who she slept with and so do I. I'm the father."
"Well, shoot. What are you going to do?"
He shrugs and I feel a sudden urge to hug the stuffing out of him. He looks so shell-shocked and sad. "I asked her to marry me and she said, "Hell no!"
"How did you ask her to marry you?"
"I said that since she was pregnant, we should get married. For the baby."
I stare at him, my mouth agape. "Are you kidding me? That's how you asked the mother of your child to marry you? Are you insane? Did you really expect her to say yes?"
He nods his head sadly and I throw my head back in a loud laugh. "Who is she? Because I want to know who's having my niece or nephew and has the balls to tell you no."
"She didn't just say no. She told me not if I was the last man on earth."
My mouth drops open and I can't help but smile. " I can't wait to meet her."
"You already know her."
"Who is she?"
