A LITTLE OVER FIVE YEARS LATER
There’s a giant smile on my face as I walk across the stage to get my diploma for my master’s degree in social work. My grandpa, Monster, his family, and my friends are all there to cheer me on and I’ve never felt more loved. I’ve worked so hard to get here, and it hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it.
After Monster graduated GSU, he got signed by Michigan’s MLB team. It was nice having him close by. Unfortunately, that only lasted three years, and two years ago, he was traded to Seattle, and we’ve spent the past two seasons living mostly apart since I’ve been finishing up my degree. I could have probably moved to another university, but with only two years left, both Monster and I decided it would be best for me to stay here. We still haven’t decided what we are going to do now that I graduated, but we have time to make that decision.
Once the graduation ceremony is over, I race to my family and friends and give everyone a hug. Leaving Monster for last and giving him a giant smooch when I get to him.
“You did it, baby,” he tells me while beaming at me like I hung the moon, and I’m sure I’m looking at him the exact same.
We were extremely lucky that Monster was able to make it for my graduation ceremony since it’s still baseball season, but thankfully it fell on one of his rare days off.
“I did it,” I reply then give him another kiss.
“Now you can finally be with me full time,” he tells me, and I nod with a giant grin.
“Nowhere else I’d rather be.”
“Well, if you really mean that, then maybe you’ll say yes,” he says, and I pull my brows together as I stare at him like he’s speaking a different language.
“Say yes to what?” I question, but instead of answering me, he drops to one knee and pulls out a little box.
I gasp and cover my mouth as he opens it, showing off a white gold band.
“Finley Martin, I love you more than life itself, and I want to spend the rest of eternity with you. Will you please do me the honor of saying yes to being my husband and continuing this life journey with me?”
I nod my head as tears trickle down my face, and emotion clogs my throat. “Y-yes” I squeak out, and he slides the ring onto my finger.
Once the ring is on, he stands and pulls me into his arms for a passionate kiss, and our friends and family cheer for us.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” I whisper while staring into his gorgeous eyes.
“Believe it, baby. You are loved and will be loved from now until forever,” he assures me before kissing me once again.
Before Monster came into my life, I honestly wasn’t sure that I was worthy of the love that he has for me, but he’s shown me that no matter what happens, he’ll always be there for me. He loves me unconditionally, and I know that will never stop.
Monster is the best man I have ever met, and for the rest of my life, I will love him with everything I have.
