70. Aiyana

Chapter seventy

Aiyana

I 'm staring at the TV screen in front of me in abject horror, so many thoughts swirling through my mind.

What the fuck just happened?

How did she find out about any of that?

And has Kat seen it?

But the thought that replays over and over like a broken record is about Kas. How will he recover from having these wounds torn open all over again?

I scramble across the couch, checking the time and realizing Kat's shift is almost over. I try calling her, but she doesn't answer, sending me straight to voicemail. I try her again, but the same thing happens. I call Kas, and his phone must be off because I get his voicemail too.

I rush to my room, changing hastily and preparing myself to run to the hospital to get Kat, but I hear the front door slam shut and know she's seen it. I hastily change back into my pajamas, tossing my bedroom door open. My heart crashes to my toes as I take in the dark room.

My feet pad quietly across the floor as I pass the living room and kitchen, making my way to Kat's room on the other side of the apartment. I knock lightly on her door, waiting a beat before barging in. I make out the small lump in the center of the bed, sobs wracking her body hidden under the green duvet.

Without hesitation, I climb in behind her, wrapping my arms around her and holding her until she falls asleep.
