Trevor

The roar of a crowd at a Super Bowl is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Some people wait their whole lives to experience one, whether as a fan, a coach, or a player. Others have been blessed to experience multiples, like me. Either blessed or incredibly talented. I think both fit the bill personally.

We miraculously won the NFC championship, by a single fucking point, despite me, Declan, Seb, and Slater all being temporarily suspended for our ‘questionable actions’ the Monday night before the game. With enough explanation, testimonies from the police, and a phone call from each of our lawyers, the committee allowed us to be reinstated for the Super Bowl.

We are in San Antonio playing and wouldn’t you know it? We’re playing my old team, the Cobras. I have nothing but respect for all the coaching staff and the players, but it fucking sucks for them because I know how each and every one operates.

The ball is tossed into my hands as I look to my left where Slater is being typical Slater Santos and outrunning every motherfucker on the field, then I look to my right where Sebastian is at least five inches taller than the man covering him. Both are solid options, but we have one minute left in the fourth quarter, and we’re all tied up. So, no offense to Slater, I throw it to the person who I know will catch it no matter what. The person who knows where I’m going to throw something before I even do.

The ball lands in Sebastian’s outstretched hands perfectly as he turns and runs the remaining fifteen yards to the end zone.

Touchdown.

A feeling basks over me that is so euphoric I can’t help but lift my hands to the sky. The stadium goes wild despite the home team losing as the Crusaders fans practically tear the place apart. One voice on the sidelines is louder than the masses, at least to me.

Sage, broken ribs and all is running, well, hobbling, toward me from the sidelines.

When we went to the hospital, they confirmed that she had three broken ribs and some bruising. They did a full work-up of her head, and she came back clean, thankfully. The doctor suggested lots of rest and absolutely no traveling, but have you ever tried to tell her what to do? When I told her she had to stay home and couldn’t come to the Super Bowl, you’d think I told her that I was going to massacre all of the puppies in the world.

Alec is in jail along with the goons who kidnapped her. They are all awaiting trial, but the prosecuting lawyer who I may or may not have bribed to take the case says that Alec is facing life, and his men are looking at ten to twenty years at least. I guess Erica and Seb joined in on pressing charges against the men since they technically could have kidnapped Erica. It’s a stretch but anything to stick it to these fuckers.

Sage told me it wasn’t a good idea for her to press charges because other members could retaliate, but I didn’t budge. We need to do everything in our power to ensure he never sees the light of day again, and it starts with her.

Once her dad found out about everything that happened that night, surprising the hell out of all of us, he broke down. He sobbed, begging Sage to forgive him for all the years he had been a shit father. Told her how terrified he was to hear the news and how glad he is that she’s okay. I don’t think she really knew how to take his shift in attitude.

I can tell she wants a relationship with him but isn’t sure where to start. I told her I would support her with whatever that means. I’d kill my contract with the Crusaders if she didn’t want to continue to see him. I’d quit the league if she wanted to leave it all behind and start somewhere new, to which she gave me the strangest look as if that wasn’t even an option on the table.

We haven’t talked much about the future beyond the fact that she doesn’t want to work for the Crusaders anymore, that she wants to bake and is thinking of going to school for it. I told her I’d get her into any program she wanted, all she had to do was ask. So, being the brat she is, she picked out a fancy one in Paris that she is starting in two weeks. Good thing the season is over because there is no way in hell I am letting her go to school one town over, let alone an ocean over, at least not alone.

We will come back when she finishes school right before practices start in July. Seb made the public announcement that this is officially his last season, and everyone already knew it was Dec’s. Slater and I will finish out our contracts and play it by ear from there.

Scarlett just got her latest scan back, and she is still cancer-free, thank God. They are even talking about surrogacy, and Erica, of all people, volunteered if they were wanting to go that route. Yeah, Erica, the girl who had a pregnancy from hell with the twins, is willing to do it all over again. Scarlett and Slater both cried when she offered, even if Slater said he just has really bad allergies.

Declan and Vi I think are both excited for him to finally retire officially. Their family is only continuing to grow, and if I’m honest, I think they miss Tennessee. They said they’ll never get rid of their house up here so they can visit often, but apparently Mama Daniels and Grandma Judy miss all the kids like crazy, and Vi and Declan too, I guess.

Sage is only a few feet away, proudly wearing a number eighty-three jersey as she jumps into my arms, again, strongly against doctor’s orders.

“Ow, ow, ow. Fuck,” she grumbles.

“Settle down, crazy. Have you forgotten they’re broken?” I laugh.

“Sorry, can’t help myself. I just saw a really hot quarterback and was wondering if he wanted to go fuck in the tunnel after all this,” she says as she gestures all around us.

“Like you have to ask.” I smirk.

“Great, I’ll go grab Hanson then,” she says, pointing toward the new Cobras QB.

A feral growl rips out of me as I pin her tightly against me.

“You’re getting your ass spanked raw for that shit.”

“Can’t wait.”
