Chapter Twenty
Jensen
I know the guys are watching me closely as I walk over to Ryan, they want to make sure that I'm not about to lose my shit, but I meant what I said. I'm good now. I do have something to say to the sick fucker though.
His eyes fill with fear as he spots me moving back toward him, and he tries and fails to move backward, only succeeding to get himself halfway up before he collapses again. There is a slight chance that I may have hurt him more than I intended, but there is a one hundred percent chance that he deserved it.
Leaning over him, I grab a fist full of his shirt and pull the top half of his body up off the floor, he groans in pain, but I honestly don't give a shit.
Keeping my voice low so that he's the only one who can hear me, I bend forward, "If I ever hear that you have hurt a woman ever again, I will fucking bury you, not rough you up a bit, not make you bleed, no I will literally bury you, and I will do it with a fucking smile, do you understand me?"
His eyes are filled with fear, and the unmistakable stench of urine fills the air, but he nods rapidly in agreement.
"There's a good cupcake," I growl and then add, seriously, "Now go to sleep."
I pull back my fist and punch him once in the face, knocking him out cold.
I'm aware of all the fearful looks that are sent in my direction as I step over him and walk over to Billy.
He nods, his face stern, and an impressed glint in his eyes, "Jensen."
"He shouldn't be a problem anymore, but I would keep a close eye on him; he seems like the type of person who is stupid enough to do it anyway."
Billy smirks, "Don't worry, he's not going to be able to pee without someone making sure he's not being a dick."
"He needs the hospital," I add, "someone should get him there pretty quickly, just in case."
Billy's eyes widen slightly, but he turns to look at his guys, and they move forward to get him, roughly grabbing him and taking him to where the cars are parked.
Once they are out of sight, Billy says, "I'll make the announcement that the bets will be paid like they normally are."
Before he can move in the direction of the ring, a guy from our side comes rushing through the crowd, yelling.
"Cops!" he shouts, "We've got a tip that the cops will be here in five, everyone scatter!"
I don't bother saying anything else as I turn on my heels and sprint after the guys who are already moving through the masses. There was an escape plan in place, so everyone should know what they are doing and where to go, but in this instance, it's very much everyone for themselves, and panic tends to overtake logic for some people, so I imagine that it's not going to go as smoothly as we hoped.
As we break out of the trees and into the lot, I dive into one of our cars, ending up in the car with Riot with Trick behind the wheel. We're silent as we race from the lot, having gotten into our cars quicker than most. Trick's phone rings and he presses a few buttons before Cash's voice comes through the speakers of the car.
"Everyone good?" Trick asks seriously.
"Yeah. We're good." Cash replies, excitement in his voice.
"I think a few people may have gotten picked up," Luc adds. "I saw some cars heading into the lot that we were using."
"Shit," I curse.
"It's okay, they've already gotten Ryan out; chances are he's already at the hospital by now." Cash replies.
"Yeah, and you scared him badly enough that I doubt he'd be stupid enough to tell them anything if he gets questioned at the hospital," Luc adds with amusement in his voice.
"He knows that it would be signing his death," I reply.
Riot looks at me as I see Trick's eyes glance at me in the rearview mirror; I shrug. I said it, and I'll follow through on it. I'm hoping that the police actually do their jobs and charge him. Someone like him shouldn't be on the streets.
We haven't been driving for very long when lights flash behind us.
I glance back through the back window and grin, "We're being followed."
"Cops?" Cash asks.
"Yep, are you guys clear?" Trick asks, not sounding worried about our current situation. It's not the first time that we've been chased by the cops, and it won't be the last.
"Yeah, we're clear," Luc replies.
"Good. Can someone contact Billy and double-check that they gave the talk to Ryan before they dropped him off at the hospital?" Trick asks.
"Rafe says he's on it," Cash replies, and then adds, "Do you need any backup?"
Trick grins as he takes yet another shortcut, "Nah, they're already falling behind. A few more turns, and they will lose us completely."
"Good," Cash says.
"Aww, I was hoping that it would last a bit longer," I moan.
"Seriously, did you not get enough of an adrenaline rush from the fight?" Trick questions.
I shrug, "I did, but a bit more of an adrenaline rush never hurt anyone."
"Actually, I think it did," Luc says.
"Are you still being followed?" Cash asks.
"Yeah, they're being pretty persistent," Trick replies.
Someone's phone pings and Luc's voice comes through the speaker from the other car, "It's Trev, he said that a donation was made to his mom for her medical bills and that they're now covered for as long as they need to be. He knows that Jensen was behind it and that he's a fucker, but thank you. He said he would've texted him, but there's no way he would've told the rest of us that he messaged."
I pull a face, "Yeah, he's not wrong."
"You donated enough to cover all of her medical bills indefinitely?" Cash asks.
The pride in his eyes is making me uncomfortable, so all I do is nod and look back out of the window to see how close the cops are.
"There's more," Luc says, and I could kiss him from saving me from answering Cash, "he said that thanks to a stroke of luck, Ryan was put in the same room as him, and he had no idea that he's there thanks to the curtain separators. He didn't say anything to the cops but they were really interested in some reports that they'd gotten through about local girls. His father is a doctor at the hospital, and Trev heard them arguing; he's really fucking embarrassed and was talking about paying them off and having to move. He was saying that the town is too small, and he's going to send Ryan and his brother to some all-dudes boarding school."
"No way," I interrupt, with a huge grin. "I mean, I would've preferred for him to go down for it, but I'll take what I can get, and having him out of this town and nowhere near any other women would be good enough."
"Nah, Richie won't allow that. Even if they move and successfully pay the girls off, he'll still pursue it; Ryan's fucked." Trick replies with a pleased smile.
"He's definitely not getting away with it," Luc replies. "Oh, shit. He just sent another message; his brother is there at the moment; he's the one that gave the tip to the cops."
"Mother fucker," Riot curses.
"Yeah, he said Ryan was freaking the fuck out. Trev thinks Jensen really scared him, although he's not surprised in the slightest." Luc adds.
"They'll be gone in the next couple of weeks," Cash says, "there's no way that they stick around after this."
"Jensen," Luc says.
I narrow my eyes but reply, "Yeah?"
"He said that he'll pay you back one day, he promises," Luc replies.
I clear my throat, "I'll message him. I don't want that."
Riot chuckles, "I know Trev as well as you. There is no way that he's going to accept that. He clearly knows you well enough because he made sure that he didn't go through you but through us instead."
I grunt but don't bother replying.
"Rafe said that he's just got a text back from Billy," Luc says, once again taking the limelight off me, although he did put it back on me in the first place, so I'm still not pleased.
"Hang on, I'll read it; his guys dropped off Ryan not that long ago; they gave him the talk about talking to the cops if they showed up, and he was absolutely terrified. They heard about what was going on at the Pit and waited in the lot to make sure that they were nowhere near it. He said they're going to make sure that the family is run from town. Rafe said he'll message back and fill them in with what Trev said. They're going to need to tread carefully, but it's out of our hands now. I think it's safe to say that calling them on their shit worked." Luc explains.
"I still want to watch them closely," Trick replies.
"When do we not?" Cash chuckles. "That's it for the Pit though right? It's now indefinitely done."
Trick nods, although Cash can't see, and then replies, "Yeah, I think it's for the best; if it becomes safe at a later date, then we'll revisit it, but for now, it's done for. Tomlinson needs to sort their shit out anyway."
"I'm good with that," I reply, all of the others agreeing too.
"Might be nice not to organize shit every week," Luc adds.
One of the guys says something, but I'm distracted by the second set of lights flashing behind us.
"Here, we go." I grin.
Trick rolls his eyes, but I can see his giant smile; he loves this as much as I do.
"You got another one?" Cash asks.
"Yep," Riot replies, sounding excited and not worried.
Cash chuckles, "Do you want backup?"
Trick, smirks, "Sure come and play, it's been a while."
"Already on the way," Cash responds immediately, and we all start laughing.
Atlas may be missing, and the Pit may be over for now, but at least some things haven't changed. Getting chased by the cops is pretty standard for us, and I don't think I'll ever not find it fun.
