Chapter Fourteen

Riot

I smirk, "One hell of a warning. If he knows what's fucking good for him, then he'll make sure that he leaves town as quickly as he fucking can. I didn't recognize him, but you have to be a whole new level of stupid to hurt Trev. He's probably the only guy who's loved by both schools; we'd all go to bat for him. The guys fucked."

"More than just fucked if I get my hands on him," Jensen growls, his fists clenching; he takes a breath and adds, "Come on, let's go and see if Trev's alright. Thank fuck, it was just in his leg, and we don't have to worry about internal bleeding."

"It can still be pretty serious," I warn him.

Before we get any further in the woods, one of our guys rushes past us and through the lot, stopping at a car that I know belongs to Trev. Sure enough, he appears next, being carried by Rafe and Luc.

Anger is the most prominent look on his face as he sees us and asks, "Please tell me you killed the fucker, and you need help hiding the body?"

Jensen smirks, "Nope, not yet."

"He scared him badly enough that I'll be surprised if the fucker doesn't try and leave town tonight," I say and then quickly explain what Jensen did. Everyone looks at Jensen in shock, but he's saved from having to say anything when the guy who went to get Trev's car pulls up.

"Out the way, guys," Luc says, and I step to the side.

We watch as they carefully put Trev in the front seat.

Before they close the door though, Trev stops them, a grimace of pain on his face.

"I'm sorry, guys, but after this, I think I'm going to have to call time on working with you guys. I've had a few close calls before, but no one has been stupid enough to actually stab me. I think I'm fucking lucky that it was only my leg they got, and I moved quickly enough that it sliced me instead of stabbed me."

I share a look with the guys. We sort of thought that this was coming; I'll be sad to see him go; he's such a valuable part of this, but we never make people stay involved if they don't want to be. That's how you end up with contempt and people who backstab you.

It's just not worth it.

"You got it, man; if you want out, you've just got to say the word, and we'll sort it," Trick replies.

"We'll be sad to see you go. You keep things running like a well-oiled machine, but I get it," Jensen replies with a smile and then adds, "You need to focus on your future, and taking bets at an underground fight ring is not your future."

Trev smirks, "It better fucking not be. I think I'd break my poor mom's heart."

"Yeah, we don't want to be doing that," Riot grins.

"Take care of yourself," Luc adds with a smile.

Trev nods, but his smile falls as he becomes serious and adds, "If this is my last Pit fight, you better go out there, Jensen, and kick his fucking ass, I've got a lot of money on you, and that fucker you're fighting needs to be dealt with. I don't know what's going on with Billy and the guys, but it's almost like they've fucking checked out, they aren't pulling their weight, and that's a fucking problem."

Trick crosses his arms over his chest, "We've become aware of that issue. We'll sort it."

"I know, but you shouldn't have to," Trev replies, and then grimaces before adding, "make the fucker bleed."

Jensen's grin is sharp, and his eyes flash with violence. He replies, "I plan to."

Trev nods, "Good. I'll sort the bets out as usual so that all winners get their money within the usual timeframe. I don't see any reason why that would be delayed, but I'll message you if I come across any issues."

"Thanks man, we appreciate it. If you do need more time to sort the bets out, just let me know; the fuckers can wait. Tonight has been far from smooth sailing, and it would serve them fucking right if they had to wait." Trick replies heatedly before sighing and adding, "But we're not going to get away with that."

"No, people will kick off," Rafe signs.

"We don't need that," Luc agrees.

Trevor shakes his head, "No, we don't. That's why I said that I'd get it sorted like usual unless I hit an unforeseen snag."

"Thanks man," Trick replies with a frown.

"No worries, now you guys need to get back to the party. Jensen's fight is due to start any minute, and the place was still in a fucking mess when dickhead started."

"Message me his name and details, and we'll sort it," Cash adds.

Trev nods, "Will do. I'm off. Don't forget to make the fucker bleed."

Jensen just smiles as he salutes him, and we wait until the car is safely gone before we turn back around and head to the Pit. Let's see what mess we're walking into.

Rafe

I really hope that Trev is going to be okay. It's going to be weird not having him around to deal with this stuff, but we'll figure it out. It's Jensen who deals with all the transfers and makes sure they can't be traced. Trev organizes it all and sends the list over to him, but no one knows that Jensen is involved in the process. He wants to keep it that way, so that's what we're going to do. We'll find another way to take bets and keep Jensen's involvement in the dark.

"I think we need to have a word with Billy before anything else happens," Cash suggests, and I nod.

It's way overdue. They've been shrugging their responsibilities, and we've been picking up the slack for a while now, and it's not fucking on. The other guys all nod their heads in agreement as well, and as soon as we enter the clearing, we start looking around, trying to find out where they are. Before we can make much progress though a guy approaches us, I know that he's from Tomlinson but that's about all I know about him. As we all stop and wait to hear what he's about to say, I take a moment to scan the area, checking that he's really alone and that we aren't going to be jumped.

"I thought you should know that there are some kids starting to kick up a stink because they saw what happened to Trev and are worried about getting their money," the guy says.

I shake my head, fuck, unbelievable.

"Seriously?" Jensen questions, "Trev's just been stabbed, and these fuckers are worrying about their money first?"

The guy grimaces, "Yeah, pretty much. Everyone was on edge before we did this, but so much shit has gone down that if anything, it's upped the fucking tensions."

"Yeah, we're starting to see that," Trick replies, his face pretty much in a permanent frown since we got here.

I said back at the yard when we picked up the cars that I wasn't sure that this was a good idea in the first place, but everyone was beginning to start picking fights. I had to go and break a fight up at the fucking park last week. There were kids around, and these two guys were going at it like they were here at the Pit.

It's incredibly difficult to stop a fight when you don't speak. Fortunately, I don't mind getting my hands dirty, so I just waded straight into the middle of it and pulled them apart.

Hell, just last night, Trick called to say that Riot and I needed to get into town to contain a fight before it became something that was going to need more than just the two of us. Richie is pretty fucking good about most things, but even he's told us that we need to lay low for a bit and make sure that we keep our noses out of trouble before we attract the attention of more than just the local cops.

That's why I was so concerned about us starting the Pit back up.

Riot's arm brushes against mine, and I glance his way just in time to see his eyes slide away from me. I heard what Trick and the guys were talking about in the woods; they weren't exactly being quiet, and it's not like it's something that they haven't brought up before. It's not me. I'd have the conversation with him if I thought that there was any point in having it, but I just don't think there is.
