Chapter 25
Chapter
Twenty-Five
ELLA
I t took me too long to realize what was happening. And it wasn't part of the plan.
I felt wrong. Dizzily, I was shuffled off and out of the ceremony room. However, behind me, I heard someone offering Benjamin congratulations.
"An omega going into heat so early around you? Must be a true match."
Heat. I was going into heat.
The moment I felt the cool air outside, I let my head lull from one side to the other before I shoved myself away from Ben.
I tripped over my own two feet, falling into the grass as I gasped for fresh air and not his disgusting scent that felt like I couldn't get away from.
I needed to get away from it.
"Grab her and let's go," ordered Benjamin with that deep alpha bark.
Arms looped around mine, pulling me away from the main building.
Of course, the Davinsons had their own personal security detail to help them with their heavy lifting. Including me.
Looking up, for a minute, I let myself remain limp. I let myself be pulled along to wherever they were going to take me behind a currently unbothered Benjamin who was going to hold me captive for the rest of my life.
He was going to bite me. Bond me. Rut me through my heat.
I shook from how my body began its steady burn, yet held off just enough for me to remain mostly coherent. Maybe it was my omega's way of apologizing, she couldn't hold it off forever.
Or maybe, I was just shaking from the silent tears pooling at the corners of my eyes.
I stared up at the dim stars I could see through the heavy fabric of the night sky.
I'm sorry Peter, I thought to myself--
Right as someone collided with me and the unprepared guards.
Maple sugar surrounded my senses. I was free, being hauled away into familiar arms.
"Lucas?"
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Lucas was here and wearing a suit like he'd been inside all along.
He never left my side.
What was he doing?
The tears finally leaked down my cheeks at the sight of him. He couldn't be here.
"What are you doing?"
"I couldn't leave without you," he said. "I refused. We all did, but I promised that I wouldn't let him take you out from here because it would be too late. I could scent you and you needed me and I just..."
"Lucas," I gasped, holding onto him as if for dear life. I didn't want to let him go. My omega screamed, I couldn't let him go. "What are you doing here?"
"I came for you," he said, eyes glimmering with determination.
"You shouldn't be here."
His hands held onto mine, pulling me along. "I'm not letting you go. I'm choosing you, Ella. I know it. You're my happy and I'm not letting go."
There was a shot. There was red, the same shade as my dress.
I fell to the ground.
