Chapter 24

Chapter

Twenty-Four

CAL

T he plan was stupid in my opinion. At least now I thought so.

In my opinion, we could've had Ella back weeks ago if we had just stolen her. We had enough money and I knew for a fact after snooping through Marko's stuff that we had a secret safe house in the middle of nowhere to hide out in.

It might've even been nice, like a much-needed vacation.

I don't think she would've minded a little highly illegal, consensual omega kidnapping, but that was just me. You know, the person who's known her the longest out of this crazy pack.

"Are you getting bitter again?" Liam asked next to me.

"No, I'm getting impatient."

"I'm done waiting," I muttered, my leg jumping in place where I stood.

I knew everyone thought it was all alpha and omega dynamics when it came to feeling a pull towards your omega, but that wasn't true. Or it wasn't true for me.

These feelings, this need to rush towards Ella were deep in my chest, and felt like they were tearing me apart by disobeying every reason my brain gave me just to go and get here right now.

It wasn't an alpha problem. It was a pack problem.

The rest was bullshit.

This was all bullshit.

Whatever was between Ella and I was meant to be. It was strong. Visceral.

Fated.

My blood simmered between a boil and cooled down with contentment knowing what was going to happen tonight even if I had to watch that prick, Benjamin Davinson, tug Ella, my beautiful girl that looked like she hadn't slept in days, under his arm.

He scraped his teeth over her neck while she stood rigid.

I clenched my fists.

Liam held onto my elbow. His teeth were grit. "Just hold up. Patience. Patience."

"I don't want to be patient."

For the past few weeks, I'd been telling him that while we fixed together a plan. From the moment Marko spoke up and got Demetri out of his messed-up funk, everything started to fall into place. Even if we hated how it had to be done.

We were not leaving behind Ella.

We were getting our girl back.

We were claiming our omega in a way none of these stupid pretentious alphas in this room tonight could ever understand or know what it was like to fight for.

Everything was just up to tonight.

Because at last, with the help of the stunning woman across the gaudily decorated room with the information she had given us before being taken away, we were going to take down the men we'd been waiting for all this time.

Of course, before we could do that, we had to listen to the woman at the front of the room ramble on about tradition.

Fuck, even her nasally voice was annoying.

"I'm done being patient," I repeated. "She's right here."

"I'm talking to myself," murmured Liam.

My lip curled up even though nothing about any of this was funny. I gave him a nod.

Not a minute later, the buzz of Marko's voice and some of his other old friends from the special forces who worked in specialized security now got in our ultimate goal of taking down the high-ranking alpha network overseeing omegas in a way everyone else thought was against the law. And truly, was.

We'd be starting with the Davinsons before the rest of the coup would rise and take people including Senior Prestford down with them all. There were more secrets tangled up with everyone than anyone could've imagined. Terrible, awful, disgusting secrets.

Tonight, it would all come out.

Everything would go smoothly as long as everyone would follow orders to a tee. As the bond acceptances continued, when it was Ella's turn, I'd be behind the stage, ready to sneak up and grab her while everyone else swooped in past the Davinson security to arrest Davinson Sr. and his tiny dicked snake son.

That was all going to be in public would make it all so much more sweet.

Sweet as pie.

Sweet as berries.

Liam mumbled something back to Marko before patting me on the shoulder and squeezing it. "Almost over, Cal. Almost over."

"Almost over." I nodded. "Let's never do this again."

Liam nodded and turned away to go back to his post now that everything was starting, but before he got far, I heard a grunt behind me.

Twisting around, it wasn't Liam- or it was, but he was pinning another alpha against the wall.

"Woah, woah," the alpha in a pressed suit said.

Though, he didn't look like a lot of the other alphas did in the room. He looked ruffled, not to mention young compared to the rest of the alphas in search of their other halves. Some with better intentions than others.

He also smelled familiar. Like Berries and cream.

Even I could smell it.

My eyes latched to him much like Liam. He was almost at a growl as I stepped forward.

Luckily, the guy started talking fast.

"You guys. You were talking about Ella. You were, right? Please say you were."

Liam, as usual, recovered faster than I did as my eyes widened at her name. "Who the fuck are you?"

The alpha extended a hand as if we were going to shake it. At least as much as he could while still being pressed forcefully against the wall. I knew I should've been thinking more serious thoughts, but all I could think was...

Was this guy serious?

"I'm Lucas," he introduced himself. "Are you- are you her pack? The ones that left her?"

Again, there was a shared look between me and Liam, mostly with confusion.

"You are, aren't you?" This guy was full of questions. But he was also cute I was starting to notice, in a way, with tanned skin and bright eyes that made him look excited, thrilled even to see us.

And he still smelled like Ella...

"Who are you to Ella?"

He seemed to take my question as confirmation of his own. His shoulders slumped and Liam hesitated but set him down on his two feet.

He offered a weary smile. "Thanks. I'm... her alpha."

Wait. What?

"I'm her alpha," he said again, more confidently, as if we hadn't heard him the first time. But we did.

Liam eyed him.

"We're scent matches," Lucas explained.

Again, Liam, Ella's other scent match, blinked.

"I love her," Lucas went on. His face creased as if in pain of the fact. That, I could understand. "I need to get her out of here. She's practically sold off to that guy out there. She can't go with him. She was going to figure things out soon but..." He shook his head. "I can't let her."

"What do you plan to do about it?" Liam asked.

Liam shook his head again. "Anything I can. I'm not walking out of here without her. And that's what I got. She thought you all weren't coming to get her. She was devastated, especially after the other night."

My heart broke as I remembered us yelling at Demetri. How much she must've felt. How rejected.

"Now she's going into heat-"

"Liam stopped him. "She's going into heat?"

Lucas let out a deep, pained breath. "Yes. I can't let her go with him. I can't let her go."

Liam glanced at me, clearly irritated. Then, he hopped back on the communication line to Marko and everyone else.

"I love her."

"We're all on the same side aren't we?" I asked, wrapping my head around what was going on. This was supposed to be a rescue mission for one omega, and now we had…

Lucas. Who by the looks of things wasn't going to leave Prestford Pack without a fight? Of course, Ella made friends. How could she not?

Or...more than friends.

I ran my hand through my hair as I looked around, trying to make sure I wasn't missing anything as the courting ceremony started in front of us.

"I would never do anything to hurt Ella," the young alpha repeated once again as if making sure. "But with or without you, I'm getting her out of here and safe."

Well, this just got a whole lot more complicated, didn't it?

Especially when Benjamin Davinson's name was called, and neither of them made their way to the stage.
