"Jake came here?" I ask, confused and playing for time a little. "To this house? For some sort of party?"
"Yes." She grimaces. Still that pained, guilty look on her face. "Jake was my guest, that night. What happened to him—it was my fault." She covers her eyes with a hand. "Please. Just keep reading. This can explain it better than I can."
I look back down at the diary. Dreading what I'm going to find now. My brother disappeared for good, fifteen years ago.
I think I'm about to learn why.
