Chapter Nineteen

Trick

“I t’s quite simple, really,” I start, “as I said before, I will give you the location of the stolen drugs, the money, and the fucker that took them. In exchange, I would like the original bargain that he made to strike off his debt to be taken off the table, and I would like a firm word from you that it will remain that way.”

Jimmy hums, but I have no idea how this is going to go. I don’t know if he is going to insist on the original deal even though, it hasn’t gone through yet, or if he is going to be somewhat decent and agree to it. Sometimes, these kinds of people get all prideful and hung up on the wrong fucking things, and if he is one of these, then he is going to want things held to the original agreement on principle or some bullshit.

Finally, he replies, “If you can send me proof that you have all three at this location, then I can agree to that. I wasn’t particularly keen on that deal anyway.”

“Fair enough. One second, and I will send you over some photographic proof,” I reply.

“I will wait on the line,” Jimmy replies.

I don’t bother replying as I take photographs of the money and the drugs, making sure that I don’t get any identifying features in the background. We don’t want them to realize where we are, although that is a very unlikely scenario since it is dark outside, and unless someone has been here before, I doubt that they would recognize where we are. We are in the middle of nowhere. However, I would rather be safe than sorry. Before I take a photo of our target, I gesture for the guys to move out of the way, which they do, and then quickly move back once it has been taken so that they can make sure that he doesn’t try anything.

“You should receive them any moment now,” I say into the phone.

Anger is prominent in his voice, “I have them. That is definitely my money and my drugs.” He then chuckles, “That is also my thief. I see that he wasn’t very cooperative.”

“No, he wasn’t,” I reply. “Do we have a deal?”

“Yes, we have a deal.”

“The original repayment for his debt is considered null and void?” I ask. I am being careful not to mention specifics just in case the target didn’t give him any specifics, and as Jimmy hasn’t said outright anything about the kid or the mom, I’m not going to either.

“Yes, it is,” Jimmy replies.

“Great, I will text you the location,” I reply.

“I’m going to assume that you will be long gone by the time that we get there?” Jimmy asks.

“You assume correctly. But we will make sure that he cannot escape.” I reply.

“That’s a shame. I would have liked to thank the person or people who brought the person responsible for a considerable theft to my attention,” Jimmy replies.

He is clearly hoping that I will change my mind and say something like, oh in that case we will hang around. I am not stupid enough to do that. It would be like we were taking ourselves out of the frying pan and into the fire. I would put us all in an incredibly dangerous situation if we were to hang around and meet him.

Having said that, we will wait, concealed in the woods, to make sure that Jimmy does turn up and the target doesn’t escape before they can get here. We aren’t about to leave any loose ends in this situation.

“It is a shame,” I reply and then leaving no time at all for him to say anything else, I add, “I am sending the location now.”

I then hang up and look at Cash, who already has his phone held out to me, with the exact coordinates that we are. I quickly type out a message on the guy's phone, grateful for the gloves that I am wearing and how they still work on a screen.

“Right, that’s sorted.” I reply, “Let’s put some more zip ties on the guy so we know he can’t escape, and then get the fuck out of here.”

“I know it was that little shit kid that told you,” the guy growls. “When I get out of here, I’m going to go straight for him and slitting his throat.”

We freeze.

Jensen’s eyes flash with dark rage. He grabs his knife, and I watch with pride-filled anger as he stabs the guy in both of his knees.

Jensen grabs the target's face, squeezing tightly and stopping the scream that he is making with ease.

“In the unlikely event that you leave this little shack alive,” Jensen says, his voice cold and full of dark promise, “you will no longer be able to walk; I know what I’m doing with a knife.”

The guy bellows, in fear and pain, as Jensen just chuckles darkly. We know that we’re going to get the kid and the mom far away, but now, on the off chance that this idiot does manage to talk his way out of the epic mess that he has gotten himself into, he won’t be able to follow them very easily at all because Jensen has made sure that he won’t walk again.

Jensen is fucking savage, and we all love him for it.

We don’t bother to say anything else as we secure him to the chair more tightly and then secure the chair to a thick pipe that is not going anywhere. I have no idea what the pipe does but it is very well attached to the floor, so it will do its job. It’s really a precaution anyway, he won’t be going anywhere with his legs in the condition that they are in.

“We need to go,” Cash says, looking down at his phone.

He has no doubt been timing how long it has taken us to make sure that we are not leaving at the same time as they arrive. We all head toward the door, and I hold it open for the others as I take one last look around, making sure that we have thought of everything and that there is nothing left here that would give away our identities.

It's not likely, we all wear balaclavas, and gloves. We are also covered from head to toe so there are absolutely no discernible features that could be used to identify us anyway. There also aren’t any cameras in here, which is a serious oversight on the targets side.

Once I have determined that everything has been dealt with and that there is no trace of any of us here, I head out of the door and shut it behind me, leaving the screaming man inside. I quickly follow the guys back into the woods, and we conceal ourselves so we can watch Jimmy, and his guys come to get the target.

It’s a risk, but it is one that we need to take. We need to know with absolute certainty that he has been dealt with, and that Jimmy has gotten his money and drugs so that he leaves the kid and the mom alone.

Fortunately, it’s summer, so waiting for an hour or so out here in the middle of the night is not uncomfortable. However, trying to remain as still as possible so we don’t attract any attention is not an easy task for some of us, and by that, I mean Jensen, in particular, is struggling. He is far more comfortable when he is doing something more than when he has to stay still.

He has always been the same.

Finally, we see lights come up the driveway. There is a small part of me that worries that it’s not Jimmy and his people and that someone else is about to find the target, someone who could help him.

Even though I have never met him, I instantly know who Jimmy is as soon as he gets out of the car. For starters, he waits until his driver opens his door for him. It’s when he steps out of the car dressed in an Armani suit, if I’m not mistaken, and I glimpse a very fucking expensive watch on his wrist that I realize that our target fucked up even more than we realized. This guy isn’t your average drug dealer; he is a lot more than that and is pretty fucking powerful if his entourage is anything to go by, as well as all the other signs.

We all watch them go into the house, four of them standing guard by the two cars that they arrived in, while Jimmy and two of his entourage go inside.

We have seen enough; we know that they are here now and that they are going to deal with this. I signal to the guys that it’s time for us to move, and I keep watch as they all silently and slowly move deeper into the forest and head back toward our truck.
