2. South and East

Artemis’s POV

The week went by too fast.

The only good part about this is that Midnight is coming with me.

“Artemis, everything is in your truck. It’s time to leave.” My grandma snapped me out of my thoughts.

“I’m coming.” I replied.

She nodded and went back outside.

I got up from the kitchen island and followed Midnight to my black Ford.

She is great off leash.

I went outside and my grandma and grandpa were standing next to my truck.

I went over to them and hugged them.

“I’ll miss you guys.” I pulled away.

“We’ll miss you too, and this will give you an opportunity to make some friends.” My grandma smiled.

“No promises, Grandma.” I replied.

I’m anti-social.

So I don’t have friends. Also if any wolves knew I had allies, they would get to me through them.

I’m just trying to protect people.

I opened the passenger door as Midnight jumped inside. I closed door.

“Before you leave, promise us you’ll at least make one friend. You can’t live your life by yourself.” My grandpa point out.

“You guys know why I don’t have friends. It’s too risky.” I defended.

“Artemis. Promise us.” He grabbed my shoulders.

“OK. I promise I’m make a friend.” I gave in.

They both smiled. “You have to leave know if you don’t want to deal with traffic. Here’s your glasses.”

She handed me, my pair of fake glasses.

I only wear them when I’m out in public or when I’m driving, so if a wolf picks up my scent they won’t suspect I’m Robin Hood.

I slid them on my face. “Thanks. I love you guys.”

I pulled them into another hug.

I pulled away and got in the drivers seat.

I opened the window to the passenger seat so Midnight can stick her head out the window.

She barked ‘goodbye’ to my grandparents as I drove off.

I turned on the radio. I started listening to random songs.

I started to mouth the words.

After a couple of hours, Midnight fell asleep.

I closed the window and looked at her sleeping curled up body.

She’s so cute.

I focused my attention back to the road.

After long hours full of driving, gas stations, and drunk perverts, I finally made it to my new house.

It was in the woods, obviously.

It had a master bedroom and two guest bedrooms.

It was nice.

I parked in the driveway. Midnight start d to stir around in her sleep until her eyes opened.

She saw the house in front of us and wagged her tail in joy as she barked.

I smiled at her as I hope out of the car and opened the door on her side.

She jumped out and ran to the door. I catched up to her and unlocked the door.

She ran inside and started sniffing around.

I took a quick look around the house.

It was a vacation home but we never used it. There was already furniture in the rooms and living room.

I left Midnight in the living room as I went to my truck and unloaded the boxes.

After I was done unloaded the boxes, I decided to watching Netflix on my laptop.

I sat on my bed as Midnight jumped on and curled up next to me.

She put her head on my lap and nuzzled my laptop of my lap.

“You don’t want to watch Netflix?” I asked her.

She shook her head no and started to tug on my shirt.

I hoped off the bed and followed her. She dragged me into the kitchen and held up her leash with her mouth.

“Oh, you want to go out.”

She put her leash down and barked once.

I hooked the black leash on her red collar and grabbed my phone and keys.

We made our way outside. Midnight was leading the way.

I don’t know where she’s taking me, but I trust her.

She kept dragging me until a small park came into view.

There was some parents here with their kids at the playground.

“Why did you bring me here?” I asked.

She ignored me and kept tugging on her leash.

I unhooked the leash from her and let her run.

She stopped and sat down in front of the family.

“Midnight!” I called for her but she stood still.

I ran after her. “Midnight!”

I caught up to her and hooked her leash back on.

“Sorry, if she bothered you. We just moved in and she wanted to go for a walk.” I apologised to the family in front of me.

The woman’s eyes shifted colors in a split second, but I saw it.

Werewolves.

“It’s OK sweetie. You just moved in you say.” She said.

I nodded.

“Well, be careful there’s some wild dogs around here. I recommend staying inside at night.” Her husband suggested.

They’re warning me about the rogues.

“Oh, ok. Sorry for bothering you. Do you know exactly where these dogs are? Just so I know to stay away from there.” I asked.

“Yes, they’re south and east from here. Be careful.” The woman said.

Mental note: The rogues are east and south from this park.

“Ok, thank you.” I thanked and walked off.

As soon as I was out of sight I bent down to Midnight’s level.

“Good girl.”

I held up my hand. She lifted her paw up and place it on my hand. Giving me a hi-five. Or should I say hi-four.

We kept walking until our new house came back into view.

Once we were inside I took out the boxes with all my weapons in them and took off my glasses.

I took them into the kitchen and started to sharpen all my knifes, daggers, and arrows.

Midnight hopped on one of the stools in front of me holding a picture frame in her mouth.

I took it from her and saw it was a painting of my grandparents on their wedding day.

“I know. I made a promise to make a friend. Maybe tomorrow I’ll go out and I’ll mingle. After my rogue hunting spree.”

She barked four times, for ‘ok.’

I smiled at her and started getting my hunting stuff ready for tomorrow, until my phone rang.

I picked it up. “Hello?”

“Hello, sweetie.” My grandma’s voice echoed on he other line.

“Hi, grandma. What’s up.”

“We just wanted to check in. Did you find out where most of the rogues are?”

“Yep. They are in the south and east. I’m getting my stuff ready for tomorrow.” I answered.

“That’s great, but remember you said you’d make some friends.” She reminded.

“I know I promise I’ll go mingle after.”

“OK. We love you. Take care.”

“Bye.”

I hung up and got ready for bed.
