Chapter 8

I swear that fucking human female is there to grind me gears and drive me crazy. I hate her. I know her name, but she can't make me think of her in her name. That fucking human... All humans are evil!

I grit my teeth, pushing the rack of dirty trays into the kitchen while she watches with a smirk. She loves to see my misery.

I take a breath, trying to calm myself. At least I'm not in the ice castle. There, the guards will be watching and whipping me instead of telling me what to do with words. I suppose the human female also enjoys smacking me with her staff, but at least that's not too painful. I still hate this stupid place. If it were up to me, I'd go somewhere better.

But... My spaceship crashed and I doubt there are ways to repair it here. These beings may not even have spaceships that can travel distance. I guess I'm stuck here and...

"Hey, you're here. Good to see you." It is the stupid four-arm guy. Acea's the name, I think.

I nod, wanting nothing to do with him.

The kitchen is large, probably the size of the ones on a uzain battleship. I'd expect they also have a similar number of beings preparing food. There is a kitchen island in the center of the kitchen, then another row of counters along the wall. There are cupboards that hang low and may hurt my horns if I don't pay attention.

He points at the sink in the corner of the kitchen. "There, you can start washing the dishes. Get them through the water once, then put them into the machine to the side, keep everything lined up well, then press the button for it to do the nice cleaning."

Ah... At least I don't have to do the whole washing and drying. To be honest, I've never done something like that before.

I'm about to head there when Acea winks. "We may have garlic bread leftover."

I ignore him before I can argue with him and that won't help my case. Do these beings really think that I'm some kind of animal they can train with food? Do they think that lowly of me?

I'm a fucking warrior, not a dishwasher!

Arriving at the sink, I pull the trays out of the rack and put everything into the sink, repeating until the sink can't hold anything else.

There are other beings around me, some are picking up cleaned utensils and placing them into the other racks for use later. The human female didn't mention lunch, maybe these beings don't serve lunch...

That's not very fun.

It doesn't take long before Acea is here with me. He takes out the trays, too, doing what I'm doing. I sneer at him. Is he here to mock how slow I am?

He picks up two trays at a time, emptying both, and... He is such a brag. Everyone here is to annoy me.

I look away from him, focusing on the dishes in front of me. I hate this...

First, I didn't beat a human female who is a ton smaller than me. Now, I can't even wash all the things quicker than a four-arm guy.

"Hey... Are you fine?" and he even dares to talk to me.

I glare at him, then get back to my own work.

"Is someone mad because they are still hungry?"

I halt and slap the plastic tray. The kitchen falls into silence from the loud smack. I hiss at him. "Do you seriously think that I can only think about food? That I'm a pet or something for you to train with food?"

Now, he pissed me off. I turn around to him, lowering my head to show him my horns. "If you are here to mock me and look down on me, I'm going to fight it."

He takes a step back with a hand out to stop me. "That's not what I mean."

I clench my fists with blood boiling inside me. Even this guy dares to look down on me.

He frowns. "I really don't mean to ask for a fight. I was just asking. I—"

I grab his collar, yanking him closer. We are similar in size, but I'm slightly taller. "Try to look down on me again and I'm going to punch you."

He sighs. "I was just joking."

I punch his gut before I give that any more thought. He grunts and winces.

"Fuck!" He growls. "So, you really want to fight?"

He punches at me. I duck to his side and kick his ass. I sneer back at him when he flexes his arms, getting ready. "Are you going to cry to that human female now?"

"She has a name!"

"I don't care!"

"Whoa!" Another male comes between us. This one is blue and doesn't seem to be as well-trained for a fight. "Why are we fighting here?"

The four-arm guy hisses. "I know we shouldn't fight. But he started it." It means nothing, even though he has four fingers pointing at me.

"He called me a stupid animal first," I hiss back. I'm not going to let anyone step over me just like that.

The blue male sighs. "I think we should both take a step back. We have new being here and it is normal for them to be trying to get along with the rest of us."

The four-arm one sneers. "That's what you'd think. But this one refused to work with everyone else, starved the night, and is here thrashing around."

I growl. "You are the one wanting to walk over me. You don't get to boss me around."

"Now what's happening here?" It is the fucking human female again... She must have heard our fight from the outside. She is with her fucking staff again. And... She is surely going to laugh at me because I couldn't win against her.

The four-arm guy says, "He punched me first."

I say, "He is the one mocking me and calling me a dumb animal."

She looks at both of us. "I don't care what happened. No fighting allowed here."

The four-arm one hisses. "Then he should be punished. He punched me first when I did nothing. I was just washing the dishes."

"You are the one—"

The human comes between us, and the blue male steps away for her. "We are up for a bumpy start here, huh? Acea, mind your own business. I'll talk to Melzul." She nods to me. "Come with me."

I wash and rinse my hands before following her out of the kitchen. Her arms are folded with the staff held up with her elbow. Maybe she is going to scream at me and won't give me dinner... I hate how I have to depend on these beings. Maybe sleeping in the forest isn't that bad. I'd have to fight the beasts, but at least that's my own attempt and I bear the fruit of my own labor, or lack thereof.

We arrive at another room in the building. There is a long table in the center, which looks like a meeting room. She puts her staff on the table and takes a seat. She gestures to a chair by her side for me to sit. I take the chair, that's better than standing.

She sighs and rubs her temple. "So, what's wrong this time around?"

"As if I'm the reason things happen? Are you just here to blame me? To punish me, huh? I—" I suck in a breath, trying to push down the fire that fights to burst out of me. I swallow and remain quiet when I can't come up with better words. I'm not a male of words, I'm a fighter.

She says, "Acea and you don't get along almost at all, huh?"

I fold my arms. "You are going to side with him anyway, not that I care who you side with. I don't need your opinion."

"But that's not how things work here."

"Yeah, yeah. You're the leader, huh? Kicking me out to the forest now, huh?"

She sighs. "Look, I don't understand why you are that hostile to us from the beginning. As far as I know, other than not giving you dinner yesterday, we, and I, have done nothing to wrong you. Not to mention we saved you from the crashed spaceship. Otherwise, if you were left outside through the night, either the beasts would have eaten you alive, or you'd be frozen to death. But you seem to be so mad over everything."

I snort and look away. I don't owe her any explanation.

She watches me in silence as if we are waiting for one of us to crack and talk.

I glare at her. I'm not going to say anything when she doesn't care. Not to mention she is the one who started everything. She thinks that she can control me with food and I'm not letting that happen. Now even that guy thinks he can do the same. I'm not that useless. I'd rather die from starvation than beg for food.

She stares at the table, seemingly thinking over something. I grit my teeth. Do I just leave? But she is still going to be in the village and I'm not leaving just yet, so...

Eventually, she shrugs. "I don't have the whole day to sit here with you. Maybe we're from different planets and that's different."

"Maybe."

"I just want you to know that I hope everyone goes along well. It's already... I mean, yeah, that. No fighting allowed."

Hm... There has to be something even though this place looks peaceful.

She says, "Did you hear me?"

I scowl at her. "You can't keep toying with me, trying to control me with food."

"That's not the point. I'm not here to control anyone. It's just... Maybe you're new here and you don't understand. It has been bumpy and has taken everyone working together to make sure we are self-sustaining. I don't know how it is back in your place, but here, we have rules for everyone to follow. It's already hard enough to survive here. Maybe I was rude when I first met you. I didn't mean to. I was..."

She takes a breath, seemingly in pain. But she isn't injured and I didn't punch her, so...

She doesn't seem to be faking it though.

She says, "Did you know almost twenty of us, including guard animals, went to look for you? We didn't know you were there when we set off, but..."

I didn't know about that. That was a lot of beings just to save my ass.

She narrows her eyes at me and shoots a laser beam from them. "Before you say that we are too weak to send fewer beings, the beasts that live inside the forest are a lot larger than any one of us and we can only be safe with a lot of beings, if that."

"So, you mean the risk of searching the forest is huge."

"Yes, and therefore when it turned out all we found was you... I wasn't in the best mood."

While I think I'm a pretty amazing warrior, I can understand that. She and I and the rest of beings going into the forest hadn't met before and it made little sense for them to take such a risk for me. Big beasts don't sound like good news.

I clear my throat. "I didn't know that. Thank you for taking the risk."

She nods and heads to the door. "If you don't want to wash dishes in the kitchen and prepare food, maybe you can try a job with the farming team, or maybe you'll like to be with the forging team that goes to the mountain at times. There aren't big beasts in the mountain, so that side is safe to go on a lower number of beings."

I suppose I should try harder to work with these beings. "Maybe also stop mocking me over food. It has been a while since I had food, so..."

She nods and lifts her small finger to me. I tilt my head to the side. What does that mean?

She takes my hand. There's a spark running between us when our hands touch. My cock twitches and I hope she doesn't see it. She seems oblivious.

"It's a human thing. Do we have a deal about that? You'll try harder to get along. I'll tell others to give you a better chance and we won't talk about food, or whether someone has to starve anymore. If you agree, we'll link our small fingers."

Ah... "Okay." We link our fingers, doing her silly human thing. I don't understand, but... her soft finger feels good. How will she feel in my arms?

Why am I thinking about such a stupid thing? I hate humans and I'm surely not hugging her any time soon. No, and no.

She heads to the door again. "Come with me. I'll show you the farming team first. The forging team is already out of the village by now."

Farming... That doesn't sound interesting at all. It sounds... like work.
