Chapter 14

Chapter Fourteen

Sin: The therapist won't let me see him every day. How absurd is that?

Lavender: Rewind a little because I need some context here. What therapist? Are you hurt and need PT?

Sin: Remember, I mentioned that I was going to start counseling to help me with my underlying issues and the lack of emotional growth? In fact, you were the one who brought that up in the first place.

Lavender: Oh yes. But I thought you had already found the right person and even had a standing weekly appointment.

Sin: That I did, but then we concluded that I need a lot more help. Which means I need more sessions.

Lavender: Let me guess, you want this to happen overnight and you proposed to see him three times a day?

Sin: Not exactly. I said, "why don't we meet daily?"

Lavender: Umm . . . that's a bit crazy and I bet he said no because you need time to process what you've discussed.

Sin: Yes, he said I can't just do that.

Lavender: Listen to him. I'm not saying stop being yourself but learn to slow down. You seem to be one of those people who is in competition with everyone, even himself. If you have a timeline, you try to figure out how to shorten the time. Which makes me think that you were indeed trying to get your therapist to see you as much as possible.

Sin: There's nothing wrong with that.

Lavender: You probably need to learn how to be more patient too.

Sin: That's not who I am.

Lavender: No, but if you learn patience then you'll be able to also learn to relax.

Sin: You sound like a fortune cookie.

Lavender: No, I've been hanging out with Genie way too much—I've been helping with the bakery. Plus, Mom keeps calling me and reminding me that this little setback is actually a lesson so . . . I'm taking it as it is, a lesson to grow.

Sin: There you go with the growing again.

Lavender: At least one of us is. Someone left to save the world or . . . Listen, you can't save anyone if you don't take care of yourself first.

Sin: I'm okay.

Lavender: But are you?

Sin: I want to believe that, yes.

Lavender: Let's be honest though, it's almost impossible to be okay when the world is actually on fire. But also, you don't seem to be the kind of person who stops to take care of himself so . . .

Sin: But I'm fine.

Lavender: Then you wouldn't need daily therapy to fix your problems.

Sin: Your point?

Lavender: Follow the in-flight instructions and put on the oxygen mask before you help anyone else. This, trying to save the company while you're not doing that well is not exactly healthy.

Sin: It's almost fixed. I can't just stop mid-negotiations.

Lavender: But once you're done, can you take a break?

Sin: I guess I can.

Lavender: And instead of trying to book other therapists to fix yourself, maybe do small changes that will last a lifetime.

Sin: You sound too wise for your age.

Lavender: Ha, I'm just imparting what Mom has taught me. Sometimes I even forget to follow it.

Sin: I hate to cut this conversation short, but I have a meeting.

Lavender: Of course you do. Talk to you later and also, slow down Sinclair McFolley.

Sin:  emoji
