31. Kellen
Chapter thirty-one
Kellen
M y Alpha jumps into action, and now I turn suddenly to the dance floor, sensing my Omega's distress.
Alastor raises his brow and it seems he doesn't sense it yet.
I get a strange gush of pride at that knowledge, but that's not important now.
Brody needs us.
"Brody!"
I barrel toward the crowd, knocking several people out of the way in the process.
When I bump into a blond Alpha with good hair, he spins my way and growls, and damn, he definitely has a screw lose.
He's crazy enough to rival my own pack, but I don't bother with him now as I continue toward my Omega.
A dark-haired Alpha places a hand on the blond's shoulder. "Let it go, Lachlan. Just… let it go."
Alastor joins my side, a shit-eating grin on his face. "You know you just angered Lachlan Hart, right? He's a psycho."
I snarl at my pack brother and push even more Alphas aside.
I don't care if I run down Hades himself, I am getting to my Omega.
Finally, I reach Brody's side, and he's on his hands and knees on the ground, panting for breath.
Twenty-two and various other Omegas surround him, but when they see me barreling through the crowd, they move aside.
Well, all except for Twenty-two.
She doesn't move an inch.
"Brody!"
I drop to my knees, grabbing his face in my hands. "Are you okay? Speak to me!"
He gasps, "I… I think… fudge …"
He doubles over in pain, and it must be one of his heat cramps.
My poor Omega.
"You need to get him back home immediately."
I look up at the one who spoke.
It's a male Omega with ocean-blue eyes and brown curly hair.
"Your Omega has gone into heat," he warns.
Yeah, even I could figure that one out.
The Omega leans toward me next. "It's his first…"
His eyes flash and I know what he's getting at. They tell us Alphas that our Omegas can die if they don't get our knots during heat, especially during a first heat.
But is that really true?
Or was that just government propaganda?
Lately, there has been talk that an Omega can turn feral without an Alpha's knot, and with all the Rogues popping up lately, maybe they're all on to something.
But my Brody would never go feral.
He would never harm me.
He's too good, too precious.
Fuck.
Brody is burning up.
"Will he be okay?" someone else asks, a woman with a soft baby voice.
It's a raven-haired Omega with similar blue eyes to the first, and they look like siblings.
"He will, sis. His pack will take him back home, won't they?"
The male Omega looks at me pointedly now, and is he testing me perhaps?
I finally recognize him. That's the governor's Omega and the other one is the long-lost sister.
Another Rogue.
Belle.
Now I remember all of their names once my senses return.
A dark-haired male Omega with green eyes comes to Belle's side next, and then they're joined by a dirty blond Alpha with electric blue eyes.
"You need any help?" the Alpha asks.
No. I don't.
I've got this.
"Come on." I lift Brody in my arms and he's hot to the touch.
Twenty-two stumbles behind us. "Brody!"
Screw her.
She is not coming back to the nest with us.
No matter how tempting she looks in that red dress.
Brody is mine.
"Hey, asshole, you left your other Omega!"
I don't look back at the Alpha who spoke. He's not my concern right now, and it seems I am pissing off a lot of Alphas in this room tonight.
That blond with the good hair, Lachlan, or whatever his name is, is probably out to get me now, but let him come.
I will fight every Alpha in this room if I have to.
"It's fine, Leo. They've got this," someone whispers next, and I finally realize who they are.
Rian and Leo Hart.
There are just too many goddamn people's names to remember!
But forget them.
My only concern is getting my Omega home.
If Twenty-two can keep up, so be it.
But she doesn't join the nest. Period.
Twenty-two manages to keep up and I grit my teeth in annoyance.
"It's going to be okay, Brody. We've got you…"
Like hell, she's got him.
Only I am equipped to give him what he needs now.
Theo catches up with us at last. "Brody! What happened?"
I growl, "What does it look like?"
Ozone cracks the air, yet the Alpha doesn't respond.
It's obvious my snappy response pissed him off but fuck his feelings.
Our poor Omega has gone into heat in public.
He is not safe.
We must get him home.
We storm outside, and I roar at the paparazzi crew when they start flashing their cameras.
They shit themselves next and put their cameras away.
Unfortunately, we have a mob of Beta protestors to deal with before we get to our limo, and I will kill them.
Every single one of them.
"He's got an Omega!"
"He's in heat!"
"Stop them doing the unthinkable!"
Big mistake.
They surround us, trying to take Brody from my arms, but Theo and Alastor box us in. They even knock out several Betas.
Yet the angry mob is relentless, eager to take my Omega, but they won't have him.
No one will have him.
Finally, I see red and now my roar shakes the very foundation of the earth.
The Beta protestors get the message.
Fucking pricks.
They leave a big enough gap, and I charge straight for our limo. The same driver is still there.
We all climb inside, and the protestors bang at the windows next like we're in the zombie apocalypse.
Freaks.
Their chanting is clear: "End all Alphas".
Alastor is loving every single moment, and his green eyes burn with delight as he wipes some Beta's blood off his face, a chuckle escaping him.
Meanwhile, Brody is writhing in my arms, and he reaches up, grasping my shirt. "Kellen… it hurts…"
The limo erupts next with the sound of three Alphas purring as we soothe our Omega.
We have to get Brody back ASAP.
But the Betas have us surrounded.
They're on the road.
Theo growls and barks at the driver, "Run them all down!"
I wholeheartedly agree. They picked the wrong pack to mess with after all.
I will feel guilty later when my Omega is safe and knotted.
The driver does as he is told, but luckily all the Betas jump out of the way on time.
That will teach them a lesson.
Hopefully, they will go back to whatever gutter they crawled out from when they finally realize…
They will never win.
Brody cries again and I can't stand it.
Theo settles his eyes on him. "Hand him over to me."
I show him my teeth.
Theo tries to intimidate me with his lightning. "He needs a knot, Kellen, and as pack lead, I should be first."
Like fuck he will.
I will fight him if I have to.
Theo hits me with all he's got, and I resist his energy as much as I can.
It's not easy going against a pack lead's orders, but I'll die trying if I have to.
It's only when our Omega whines that I finally concede and hand him over.
Theo takes the Omega and now he purrs softly, reassuring him. "It's okay. I'm here."
Brody is delirious, barely holding it together. "Theo…"
Theo massages his cheek. "It's time, Brody. I'm going to knot you."
Brody's face shines with sweat as he nods, and now Theo unzips his pants, letting the Omega straddle his hips.
I know the moment Theo knots him. His tense shoulders relax, and then he flops like a rag-doll.
He's still neither here nor there, though.
His glasses hang off his nose, and Alastor takes them and folds them neatly in his pocket, and just maybe we will get through this.
I think I am finally starting to understand.
It's all about Brody.
His needs come first, and once we learn to put our petty differences aside, then just maybe we can all live in harmony.
We will give Brody everything he needs and more to get through this.
Just why do I get the feeling we have forgotten something?
