34. Amma
Chapter 34
Amma
A mma ate her breakfast and smiled. She loved how attentive Suni was to her needs. She had never really thought of having a relationship, but if she had, this was it. Suni was a male who wanted to make her happy and got his happiness from her. After meeting his parents and seeing the love they had for each other, she wanted the same.
"Do I need money at the market?" Amma wanted to get a few things for their home. She suddenly understood her mother's magic. As a hearth witch, Lily was always doing little things around the house to make it more of a home.
"What is that?" Suni's ears tilted toward her. She was starting to learn how to read his body language. It was interesting how expressive he was even without changing expressions. His ears, even his tail, all communicated his feelings.
"Money is something we use on earth to buy things."
"Like trading?"
"Kind of." She doubted he would understand money if they were a trade-based society. "I don't want to go around picking things up and be called a thief."
"There is no need for you to trade for anything. Everyone knows you are my mate, and they will give me a tally of what you took. I will exchange some of my hunts."
"Oh, that's cool. Everyone gets something they really need."
"What did you trade for in your world?"
"Pieces of paper and metal that now seem stupid," Amma sighed. "They represented work in a more…symbolic way. I wonder if my world would have been better off if it had stayed a trade-based society."
"Maybe the males would not attack females because they did not agree with their lifestyle."
"I think here it's reversed. The women with power think they can run things and not answer to anyone. They have met their match with my family. We do not take kindly to witches using their magic against those who cannot defend themselves."
"We can defend ourselves." Suni's ears flattened against his head. "We are warriors."
"You are an awesome fighter, and I know the rest of the warriors here are too, but remember, these witches don't fight fair."
"I took down some of those witches during the battle without a problem."
"That's because you're amazing." Amma finished her bowl and scooted closer to her male. "When you fight, it's like a powerful dance."
"You will see a powerful dance later." Suni stuffed the rest of his food into his mouth, chewed twice, and swallowed. "I need to practice with the other warriors for a while. I will take Jabari and Kofi with me. They need to start learning the warrior way."
"I'm glad you are thinking of them," she said. Amma would pick some things out for their house, too. There was no need for them to live like unpolished bachelors until they found their mates.
"I think they are going to be good for our village." Suni stood and put his pants on before strapping his weapon to his back. "Are you coming?"
"I was thinking about it." Amma laughed and squirmed out of his reach when he tried to grab her. "Oh no, we are going to have to continue this later if we want to be prepared for the ceremony. Go, have fun."
Suni caught his mate anyway and pulled her against his body before capturing her lips. His long tongue licked and sucked her tongue until her body was on fire. "There, so you cannot forget me," he whispered. "Come get me if anything happens." With a last peck, Suni walked out the door with a smirk and wagging tail.
Amma stood there for a few minutes in a daze. He had not only mastered kissing but knew how to turn her on faster than any porn.
"Amma, are you awake?" Mia called from outside. "I saw Suni leave and figured you would want to get out and about."
"I'm up," she replied. Amma walked outside to meet her cousin. "Have you seen Mike and Sam?"
"They were running around in the market area earlier," Mia laughed. "Everyone is feeding them."
"They are going to get too big to mate." Amma knew she'd have to explain to everyone that maybe they didn't need to feed her boys all the time. She knew how difficult it was to say no when they gave her the big eyes and bushy tails. "Please tell me winter is coming?"
"From what I understand, when the moons change phases, the colder days will come." Mia shrugged. "I just make sure Julian and I have winter clothes on standby."
"Speaking of Julian, where is she? Has she recovered after the healing yesterday?"
"She's back to her old self and out with her dad. I'm sure they are either getting in trouble or he is sneaking off and teaching her how to fight."
"But she is so young."
"Not here." Mia started walking. "As a matter of fact, Julian is behind others her age. I just don't want her to learn to fight. You know that is not the way of our family."
"It's not, but things are changing. Maybe we should know how to fight"
"Why?"
"You saw the aftermath of a battle, right? I saw the whole battle with those High Coven witches. Jo was a badass, but she's a battle witch. Shelly froze. She's our seventeen-year-old cousin. She could have been killed because she hadn't been trained."
"I have to stop thinking like a human."
"No, you have to keep thinking like a human, but change some of your views." Amma didn't want her cousin to lose who she was, but to become something better. "Maybe you should pick up training with a weapon."
"You have made a good point. I may try it, but only after I have this baby." Mia rubbed her stomach. "I'm so excited to see what our baby will look like. I'm hoping they have a cute little tail and horns."
Amma smiled. "I can't wait either." She wondered when she would get pregnant. She was ready to be a mom and to see Suni as a father.
"Take your time," Mia lowered her voice. "Your mate will become overprotective and stalk you. I got away because I said I was going to be with you."
"Well, let's get going." She linked her arms with Mia's. "You can show me all the best spots to eat and get some clothes."
The market was one of the best Amma had ever been to. It was low tech, and everyone was friendly. She grabbed another order of fried leaves and laughed when Mia made a gagging noise and refused to walk next to her until she finished. The pastries were a better hit, and they both filled up on the large flaky buns. She had seen Mike and Sam for a second as they ran past on their way to another stall. She was happy they were being accepted and watched over. She didn't have to worry that they were being mistreated.
Soon, the two women picked out a large white fur that Amma wanted to put on the floor by the fire pit. It would be comfortable to cuddle on when the weather turned cooler. The clothing hunt was unsuccessful, but she had found a light blue skirt that she could tailor to fit her like a tube top dress. With her arms full, she walked Mia to her home before going to hers.
