Something isn't right. I've been up on this mountain for a month now, helping my fellow ex-Army Ranger buddies rebuild an old mining town. We've been alone up here, aside from the women my friends have settled down with. But now, we have a trespasser.

I started noticing mysterious tracks and things missing here and there, and then discovered a den where the little punk has been hiding. When I camp out at the construction site overnight, I'm prepared to give whoever is sneaking onto our property a harsh talking to and a good scare.

What I'm not prepared for is the raven-haired goddess with wide, terrified, sky-blue eyes. She steals the breath from my lungs and cracks my heart of stone in half with one look. Blakely is afraid of everything and everyone, and it kills me that she can't even look me in the eye. If she hadn't passed out, I don't know that she would have ever agreed to come back to my cabin.

She's here now, and for the first time since leaving the military, I feel like I have a reason to wake up in the morning. Saving Blakely from whatever has her running scared is my new mission in life. I just hope my past doesn't come between us…
