Chapter 19
Samuel
I landed on his back, and I still had a hold of his neck. The fury and bloodlust made me pummel his head, but unfortunately, we had landed on the grass, so I couldn't pound his head on cement. He tried to get out of my hold, but I remained on top of him.
"I think I will take it from here."
When I looked up, I saw Alaric casually standing beside a tree.
I kept a grip on the asshole's hair while I focused on Alaric. My mind raced, wondering why an Elder would be here of all places.
"Who is he?"
"Someone who committed treason."
"Against?"
"Christian."
That made sense. Too many people had tried to kill Elders over the centuries, but they seemed to target Christian because he was crazy.
"I can't let him live," I said as the waves of rage incensed me again. He put his filthy hands on my pregnant blood mate.
Alaric smiled and walked towards us.
"Oh, he isn't going to live. Are you Nicholas?"
I didn't see it coming, but he viciously kicked him in the face, making me lose grip of his hair. He shot out from under me and began to run. I snarled before chasing him, catching Alaric's movement behind me. I knew Charlotte's blood gave me an advantage, and I caught up to him before he could leave the hospital grounds.
I jumped into the air and landed on his back, but this time I placed my arm around his neck, so there was no place to run. It didn't matter what Alaric said or why he wanted him. He needed to be eliminated.
I used all my strength and gripped his head before twisting it clean off his shoulders. The cracking of bones made a wonderful noise alongside his partial cry of pain. I held his dismembered head and tossed it to Alaric, who stood silently with a stoic look on his face.
"He's all yours," I said before glancing down at the body that needed to be disposed of.
"Why, thank you," he said dryly. "Not much good to me now since I won't know who was behind the latest assassination attempt."
"Why isn't Christian here?"
"We were following various leads. He ended up in Germany, but mine led me to his association with Duncan."
"You've been tracking him?"
"It took me a while to find Elgin since he has been staying in Aberdeen. I am curious. Why was he here?"
I glanced at the head he held.
"I've never seen him before. We rescued some humans Duncan had kept in his castle. I believe he may have been trying to find out what happened to his associate."
He tossed the head, and I watched it roll towards his body.
"And what did happen to Duncan?"
I shrugged my shoulders.
"Shit happens when you don't follow the rules."
"We heard some rumours about him and a few of his international contacts."
"I'm surprised to see you here in person. Why didn't you send someone from your security?"
"This involved family, which made it personal."
I nodded because I could understand that, but to my knowledge, they weren't blood brothers. A thought suddenly hit me. Perhaps their parents had been mated.
"Can I ask you, Alaric? Are you true, brothers?"
"I don't know, but as far as I can remember, we have always been together."
"Are you taking him back to Greece?" I asked, nodding towards the lifeless corpse, which was oozing black blood on the grass. He had almost made it out of the car park.
He sighed.
"No, I have to make a trip to Paris before I return home."
"I can ask Derrick to dispose of him. I can't light him up here." I replied.
"Why are you this far up North?" he asked with speculation gleaming in his eyes.
I hesitated because I'd known all of the brothers since my birth as a vampire.
"Why don't you come over to my house tomorrow night, and I will explain everything," I said, taking a chance.
"Yes, I believe I shall," he said as he began to walk away.
"You don't want my address?"
"I don't need it," he said with a chuckle as the darkness swallowed him up.
I rubbed my face and decided I'd done the right thing by not lying to him.
"Fuck," I muttered before I pulled my phone out to call Derrick so he could dispose of Nicolas. I would need to mesmerise half the ward and Glenda if she was awakened by all the commotion.
