Chapter 17

Samuel

Charlotte was pregnant, and I couldn't contain my elation, but the only shadow that overcasted our happiness was the vampire in the area. I needed to reconsider and ask Derrick to come up because I would not leave Charlotte's side when there was danger present. The fact that two of the captives were missing was more than alarming. She wouldn't be happy if I took her away from her home.

"Perhaps you should take maternity leave," I said.

"Are you serious? I'm not even two months pregnant yet," she said as she climbed into bed. "I only took the test today."

"We are wealthy. You don't need to work if you don't want to."

"I love seeing my wee wrinklies. They make my day."

I smiled at her description because they were a colourful bunch.

"Plus, you are there to help me," she said, snuggling into me.

I held her close before I reached out to switch the lamp off. She was more tired than usual, and I wanted her to get some sleep before I invaded her sweet pussy first thing in the morning. I nuzzled her neck and buried my face in her hair. She was asleep within minutes, but I loved holding her in my arms and listening to her heartbeat.

The thought of our child inside her womb made me feel giddy. The last few centuries made me emotionless and apathetic. When I met Charlotte, it felt like someone had hit me over my head with a sledgehammer. It jolted me out of my biased views of humans.

I caressed her soft stomach gently, unable to comprehend how someone like myself could have created life with this vibrant, remarkable young woman. Through her work, I saw humanity and compassion. I paused in rubbing her stomach as I realised I would die to protect them. I would end it all to ensure my child and Charlotte lived on.

Hopefully, it wouldn't come to that because I wanted to live for my family, to meet our precious child. To spend the remainder of my lifespan with Charlotte by my side. I gently kissed various parts of her face and smiled when she remained asleep.

"But why?" Charlotte cried out.

"I am not choking you when it could cut off the air supply to our baby," I said as I scowled at her.

"Is it my neck? You're getting bored of it."

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at her, but I did read up on pregnancy hormones, so I decided laughing wouldn't go down well with her.

"Baby, you have a beautiful neck. I've not touched another person's neck since you allowed me access to yours. But I will not choke you while I fuck you."

"Fine," she said crossing her arms with her face like thunder, reminding me of our earlier days. "But I think you have been reading too many pregnancy and parenting books."

"I don't sleep much at night," I said in my defence.

"You don't choke me awake either," she grumbled.

I bit my lip to contain my mirth and hugged her to me, uncaring that her arms were still crossed. I rested my chin on her head before I tightened my arms around her.

"I would rather harm myself than endanger you or our baby," I murmured before kissing the top of her head.

She relaxed against me before placing her arms around my waist.

"So Derrick is in Elgin?" she said, completely changing the subject.

"Yes, I didn't want to ask Alexander or Silas since they have their own families to care for."

"Hmm. I can't wait to see Holly's baby. I heard they keep arguing if it will be a boy or a girl."

She suddenly looked up at me.

"What do you want?"

"Whatever you produce."

She grinned.

"Good answer," she said, patting my cheek.
