R OOSTER

"I'm exhausted, and I have barely done anything today," Rosie mumbled as she dropped onto the couch beside me. "My back is killing me. I can't imagine how Jewel and Sandi must feel."

"Speaking of Jewel and Sandi, how do you know them again?" I asked.

I had barely had any time alone with Rosie this afternoon because she'd been busy helping the doctor and nurse work on Ajax. I was still amazed at how calm and collected she'd been throughout the entire process and even more shocked that the entire crew of women had laughed and cut up even when they were in the middle of doing something so serious.

I had never been shot before, but I had to say that if it ever happened, I'd be happy to have Rosie and any of her friends help me. Okie seemed to feel the same way and, as usual, was right there in the thick of things, absorbing new information like a sponge so that he could use it to his and everyone else's advantage later on.

"I've known Jewel since I was in grade school. She and her siblings are older than me, but I grew up with them. I'm closest to her brother Terran, but she and I are really good friends." Rosie looked hesitant for a second and then said, "He and I actually dated for quite a while."

"I guess it ended well if you're still friends."

"It did. Actually, he's the one that convinced me to get my ass back here and grab life by the horns."

"If I ever meet him, I'll make sure to give him my thanks."

"You'll definitely meet him. He's awesome."

"What does he do for a living?"

"He's a doctor too. So is one of their other brothers, Spruce. Their sister Petra is a lawyer. Don't ever try to argue with her. If she can't win, she'll just kill you." The look on my face at her easy declaration must have tipped her off because Rosie laughed and said, "Hypothetically, of course."

"I'm assuming that since you brought them in, they won't report this?"

"Of course not."

"Even though they're medical professionals? Isn't it mandatory that they report gunshots to the police?"

"Technically, but Uncle Eric didn't get shot. He fell down a ravine and was impaled by a dead mesquite tree when he stopped to help an injured racoon."

I had just taken a sip of my beer when she said that with such conviction that I choked and bent forward as I started sputtering. She laughed as she made a show of slapping my back until I was able to catch my breath and straighten up again.

"That's the story, huh?" I croaked.

"It's the truth."

I smiled at her, and she shrugged so innocently that I couldn't help myself. I leaned closer to give her a kiss, and she wrapped her arms around my neck as she returned it.

"What happens now?"

"Well, I've gotta talk to the owner of this joint and see if they can make arrangements for my friends to stay for a few days. Flora and Fauna will be leaving in the morning but Dad, Jewel, and Sandi will be staying for a few days."

"I'll see what I can do," I murmured against her neck.

"I figured that Jewel and Sandi can sleep here so they're close to Ajax and you can just stay with me in my cabin."

"I like the sound of that."

"And if you can get my dad a cabin on the other side of the mountain, I would appreciate that."

"Why the other side?"

"Because he seems to be handling this you and me thing pretty well, but I'm sure if he hears me screaming in the middle of the night, he'll probably lose his shit."

I burst out laughing as I pulled her off the couch and across my lap. "You think so, huh?"

"I know so. It doesn't matter how old I am, I'll always be his little girl and he'd rather not imagine what happens when I'm left alone with a man I loooo-ike."

"Even if he knows that I loooo-ike you too?" I asked her with a grin.

"Even then."

"I already called Dianna and made cabin arrangements for your dad and the girls, and at the time, I just assumed I'd be staying with you since this is where Ajax will be staying and the medical people would need to be close by."

"What about Okie?"

"He's already gone," I told her.

"But I was outside a minute ago and saw his bike there."

"He took my truck to go meet one of the other guys and hand over the girl."

"Where are they taking her?"

"I'm not sure where she'll end up, but I know she'll be safe. A couple of the other guys will meet with Ajax about the details of the job he was doing and see if they can't finish it out for him. She said that her sister was still missing, so that needs to be handled."

"And your guys will handle it?"

"We all help out with Ajax's cases now and then when he needs some backup," I hedged.

"Is that always triggered by a call that has you running for the hills without an explanation about where, who, or why?" When I nodded, Rosie took a deep breath and then slowly blew it out before she asked, "Do you take care of his cleaning chores?"

"No cleaning, just transporting when it's needed, and he occasionally uses the lodge as a hideout for people as well as a base for him to take a break or recover like he'll be doing for a while."

"Okay."

"That's it? Just okay?" I asked in shock, expecting more of an argument.

"Okay means okay," Rosie said with a shrug. "As long as you're careful and always come home to me, I won't ask too many questions so you don't have to tell me any lies."

"I won't ever lie, but sometimes I might have to just tell you I can't share."

"I'm okay with that too."

"Since we're putting it all out on the table, I have to tell you that there's been a time or two when trouble has followed him here."

"I guess we'll handle that if and when it comes."

"Have you ever shot a pistol?" When Rosie just gave me a bored expression, I laughed and said, "What? It's a valid question."

"Let's just say that I've probably had more time at the range than you have and leave it at that." Rosie smiled and added, "And if you ever want to get me a gift that you're absolutely sure I'll love, you can always buy me a new handgun."

"Can't do it, Curious. I'm a felon, remember?"

"Oops. I forgot about that."

"However, I can give you the money for the gun you want, and you can go get it."

"That works!"

"Perfect! If that's the case, that means I have one less person I have to shop for at Christmas."

"And anniversaries, Halloween, birthdays, President's Day, Valentines Day, National Ice Cream Day . . ." When I laughed she said, "What? It was worth a try."

"I'll get right on that."

"What I really want you to do is carry me to my cabin and get right on me," Rosie murmured suggestively before she nipped at my earlobe with her teeth. "How about that, Strange?"

"Let's get everybody fed and settled into their accommodations, and I'll do that for sure."

"Patience is not really one of my virtues."

"Then I better get started."

ROSIE

It seemed to take forever to get everyone settled in with their new sleeping arrangements, but before we did that, we all enjoyed a wonderful meal that Clark delivered himself via one of the golf carts I'd seen cruising around the property. Apparently, having a group of Rooster's friends show up out of the blue was so commonplace that Clark didn't hesitate to help. He even offered to come back and take a shift sitting with Ajax overnight.

Jewel and Sandi thanked him for the offer but assured him they had it covered and then thanked him profusely for dinner while at the same time making him laugh so hard that he threatened to stay just for the entertainment value. Once he said his goodbyes, we dug into the dinner he brought. I helped Flora and Fauna clean up afterwards while Rooster went to feed his animals and then up to the lodge to tell Kerrigan good night.

Dianna came down while Rooster was gone and escorted Flora, Fauna, and my father to their cabins, leaving me alone with Jewel and Sandi.

"I like your new guy," Jewel said as she adjusted the blood pressure cuff around my uncle's bicep. He was sleeping soundly now, not in and out of consciousness like he had been earlier, and I was sure that had something to do with the IV bag hanging from a makeshift hook Rooster had rigged above the headboard of the guest bed. "He seems nice."

"You barely talked to him."

"He's got a half-dead man here who got into that predicament by rescuing a young woman from God only knows what sort of horror."

"Is she going to be okay?"

"I don't know her story, but she seems like a strong woman. I'm sure she'll have a few hiccups before it happens, but she'll be fine."

"I talked to her, too, and I agree. She didn't have any physical injuries that would require medical intervention, just some superficial cuts and bruises that I helped her with. The rest of her healing will come with time."

"Did they . . . Was she . . ." When Sandi grimaced, I winced and said, "I guess that's none of my business."

"How much of a shock was it to find out that it was Eric who needed help?" Jewel asked.

"It's been so long since I've seen him that I didn't recognize him at first," I admitted. "As Okie was carrying him in, I thought he seemed familiar, but when I heard his voice, I knew it was him."

"Why did they stop talking this time?"

"Who knows?" I muttered before I reached out and brushed my uncle's hair off his brow. I was shocked at how silver it had gotten since the last time I'd gotten to see him. "But at least since I'm with Rooster and they're friends, we won't lose touch again."

"When I told your dad how he got here and why, he was shocked," Jewel said hesitantly.

"I'm not gonna get in the middle of it," I insisted. "I'm just glad we were able to help him. I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't been here and couldn't call you guys."

"Apparently, they have a few doctors at their disposal, but they live further away," Jewel explained.

"That's good at least."

"Let's get to the meat of it, Ro. What does this mean for you and him?"

I shrugged and said, "Nothing. It doesn't change anything."

"Are you sure?"

"Why would it? It's not as if I was raised in a bubble where stuff like this only happened on television. How many times did one of the guys pull some shit and need our help?"

"Or the girls," Jewel said with a grin.

"True. Remember the time we stole that car and high-centered it doing donuts in the mall parking lot in the middle of the night?"

"Holy shit! You stole a car?" Sandi asked.

"No. I didn't steal the car," Jewel explained. "I helped steal the tow truck that pulled said car out off the berm where it was high-centered."

"It shocked the hell out of Rooster that I didn't freak out."

"It's good to keep him on his toes," Jewel said with a laugh.

"Keeps things spicy," Sandi agreed.

"Things are already pretty spicy, and they're gonna get spicier as soon as we get back to my cabin."

"Then what the hell are you still doing here?"

"Call me if you need anything, okay?"

"Of course," Jewel assured me. She waved toward the door and said, "Go forth and don't procreate."

"Safe sex is the best sex," Sandi said cheerfully. "And when I say safe sex, I mean the kind that requires a safe word."

I walked out into the living room and realized that Rooster must still be out in the yard, so I sent him a text that said, "Me. You. Shower." as I walked out onto the front porch. I knew the second he read it because I heard him start yelling at Cluck Norris to ‘move your ass before I put you into a pot.' I could still hear him trying to rush the animals through their nighttime routine when I walked into my own cabin, but I knew it wouldn't take much longer since he was motivated.

I hurried upstairs to the master bathroom that had the shower stall of my dreams and turned on the water to get it heated up before I yanked off the clothes I'd found at Rooster's and threw them aside to deal with later. I was stepping into the shower when I heard the front door open and then close and smiled when I heard heavy footsteps on the stairs.

By the time Rooster got into the bathroom, he already had his shirt off and was hopping on one sock foot as he pulled his boot off the other. I laughed when he stumbled into the doorframe, and he flipped me off before he tossed his boot aside and let his jeans fall to his feet.

I wasn't laughing any more at the sight of him naked, his tattoos bared for me to see in the bright bathroom light and his cock already hard and aimed my way.

Just to be funny, I reached out and shut the water off before I said, "You're too late."

"Like hell," Rooster mumbled as he stepped out of his pants. "Your hair's not even wet, liar."

I laughed and turned the water back on and then let out a screech when the cold water hit me before I twisted the knob further to get it hot. I was still adjusting it to what I liked - almost lava, but not quite - and heard Rooster hiss when he stepped in behind me.

"I didn't know that showering with you would give me third-degree burns."

"Are you really complaining right now?" I asked.

"I've been dying to touch you for hours, Curious," Rooster said as he pulled me into his arms. When the spray hit me in the face, he turned our bodies so that it was on his back and leaned down to give me a kiss. It was just as hot as the water, and within seconds, he was pressing me against the cold tiles. It shocked me when he dropped to his knees and lifted my left leg over his shoulder.

I remembered our first night together when we'd enjoyed a shower together and I had gone down on my knees in front of him, blowing his mind, along with everything else - so much so that I had fantasized about the sounds he made and the filthy things he said he wanted to do to me while his cock was in my mouth.

Unfortunately, this shower wasn't equipped with the rails that the hotel had been equipped with to hold onto. So, without purchase against the wall to hold myself steady, I rested my hands on either side of his head. I guessed that might be a problem when he sucked my clit between his lips and hummed. All that was keeping me from floating away in pleasure was my grip on his hair and my leg hooked around his neck.

He didn't seem to mind at all, if anything that just spurred him to suck harder, hum louder, and move his fingers deep inside me more intensely than he had been before.

I loved it and told him so very loudly over and over until my screams of pleasure echoed around the bathroom.

My body went limp as my orgasm faded. Rooster slowly pulled his fingers away and then reached up to unhook my leg from around his neck, probably so he could finally take a breath since I'd been clutching him against me for so long. I thought for sure that he'd want to finish our shower and then go to bed where I would absolutely love to blow his mind just like he had mine, but he had other ideas. Instead of standing up so he could stand in the shower spray, he sat back on his heels and tugged me down in front of him.

I wasn't sure exactly what he wanted me to do until he jerked my body down onto his lap, impaling me on his hard cock in one swift movement. It took a few seconds of awkward movement for me to find my pace, but I found that the position wasn't nearly as impossible as I'd first thought and bounced up and down using my back as leverage against the wall.

It was Rooster's turn to be vocal as I rode him, and when he reached down and strummed my clit to bring me to a second orgasm, my voice matched his as I screamed with my release. When I finally stilled, the water was barely lukewarm, but neither of us seemed to mind when I pushed away from the wall and wrapped my arms around Rooster's neck for a long kiss.

"That was fantastic, Strange. Absolutely fantastic. We need to repeat this same position as often as possible."

Rooster laughed before he gave me a quick peck on the lips. Finally, he said, "I don't know about doing it in the shower again. Maybe the bed."

"At least the water's not as hot as lava anymore," I mused.

"Yeah, but since I can't feel my feet anymore, I'm going to have to sit in here and get hypothermia while the feeling comes back."

"I'll help you up and drag you to the bed if I have to," I offered.

"Why don't I just sit here and watch you shower while the feeling comes back, and then I can walk with you to the bedroom where we do all of that over again."

"It's a deal."
