31. Kye

THIRTY-ONE

KYE

I fidgeted with the ring on my middle finger as the plane touched down before hitting my phone off airplane mode. I was already bracing myself for the onslaught of texts from the group chat.

Scout

I swear, Kye, if you aren't here, I'm missing my own wedding to hunt you down.

Fox

Could you catch him?

Jax

Only if he goes in a straight line, she can't make those corners for anything.

Quinn

Could one of you please come down to the garage and help me load my car?

Ransom

I literally just texted Jax to help you. Why aren't you helping my wife?

Carly

Because he was driving his own wife and the first seventeen bags of groceries to the diner. Prepping a dinner for 150 people isn't going to happen overnight. Why aren't you helping her?

Ransom

Because I'm at the garage trying to make sure all these cars are going to get done while we are all busy this week. Have you ever tried to deal with four young guys who think they are the best thing to walk the fucking planet?

Quinn

Actually, I have. I had to deal with a garage full of guys and one little redhead. Good luck, babe. It's taken me ten years and I still haven't been able to keep you guys in line.

Ash

Ohh Carly, can you bring me a sandwich from the diner? Fox hasn't fed me all day.

Fox

I fed you two hours ago.

Ash

And??

Scout

KYE

Fox

He's on the plane, Scout, relax.

I had my phone off for five hours and they acted like they would never hear from me again. I rolled my eyes, deciding it was better to respond now than to let it continue.

Kye

I literally just touched down. I will be there in an hour.

Scout

An hour? We have the dinner reservation in an hour.

Kye

So what's the issue? I will be there on time.

Scout

BARELY

Kye

I will be there. Promise.

Jax

*cough* Bridezilla *cough

Quinn

Oh no…

Carly

Jax!

Kye

I will see you guys in an hour.

I pushed the phone back into my pocket and grabbed my bag. I had only been gone for a week this time, so I didn't have much with me. This week, I had gone to Georgia for a race event with Holt, but ended up staying a few extra days for a drift event. Usually, it wouldn't be an issue, but it meant I was cutting it a little close getting back today.

Now I had a week off for Scout's wedding, another week of being home, and then a few races and events planned after that. It was non-stop, and exactly the way I liked it.

My life was racing and events. From plane to car, and back to the plane, just to go to a new place with a new car. Holt used me in every area of his business that he could, and I never took it for granted. He gave me everything I wanted for my career, and in return I worked my ass off to be the head of all his drift and stunt areas of his company, while trying to add anything else I could manage.

I pushed my hat back on and found my car in the parking lot. Home was another hour's drive, but I was heading right to the restaurant, which would add a few more minutes. Hopefully, Scout wouldn't hate me forever if I made it by the hour mark.

The car flew down the highway as I got lost in thought. I came home pretty often. Sometimes I would be gone for months, sometimes days, but it never mattered.

Every time I crossed the sign letting me know I was back in town, I always thought of one thing.

Daisy.
