27. Evie

I have never been soscared in all my life. What would we have done if Allison hadn't been living with us? And didn't Ghost say they would be moving into their home before the baby was here? Hannah was still sleeping when the doctor arrived. She slept until he touched her leg, and then she screamed.

"It must be very painful for her if she screams from you touching it," Reaper said, frowning at the doctor as he moved closer. I looked around at the men from Delta Force Guardians. They were huge, from working out at Steel's home, where a gym was in the basement. The room was shrinking as Ghost stepped back inside of the tiny space.

"It looks like a black widow bit her, but she'll have to stay here to see if it was a brown recluse." A tear fell down my cheek before I got myself under control. I glanced at Rebel; he looked like he would kill every spider on that mountain.

"Okay, only the parents can stay at the hospital tonight. I'm going to rub some medicine on her leg to deaden the pain in case we need to drain the poisoning out of it. This is only a precaution in case it is a brown recluse. We know it's a spider bite by looking at the four teeth marks on her leg."

I worried about Rebel, who had just gotten out of the hospital. He was still taking antibiotics for his gunshot wounds. I talked to the nurse, and they brought in another chair for us. I must have fallen asleep. When I opened my eyes, Rebel and Hannah looked at me, smiling.

"How is mommy's baby girl?" I said, getting up and feeling for a fever. She was warm, but I knew that was normal warmth from sleeping in her daddy's arms for the night. I bent my head and kissed her forehead.

Rebel pulled me closer to him and kissed me. "Thank you for loving Hannah as much as I do."

I looked him in the eyes. "Hannah is my daughter, and from now on, we will never say she is only your daughter. Of course, I love her as much as you do. Why wouldn't I? She's my baby. I can't let you keep saying that she is only yours. How would Hannah feel when she's older and hears people saying I love her as if she were my own?"

"I didn't mean anything by what I said. I know Hannah is your baby as much as she is mine. I'm sorry for making you feel any differently. It's just that I love you for loving her."

"I know you do. Now, let's plan what we will do if anything like this happens when Allison moves out of the house. I've decided to take classes about spiders and spider bites. I was so scared because I knew nothing about anything."

"I usually know what to do, but this was the first time I felt overwhelmed because it was Hannah, and I may have freaked out. I can't believe I ran into Ghost and Allison's bedroom. He'll never let me live that one down."

I chuckled, remembering Ghost putting on his sweats and Allison putting on her wrap because both were naked as the day they were born. "Yeah, I'm glad we can laugh about it now, knowing Hannah will be alright. Let me see her leg. Oh, it looks so much better. I kissed it, and she giggled, so I blew bubbles on her to get more laughs. She was still giggling when Allison and Ghost walked in.

"That's the best sound in the world," Allison said as she walked over and looked Hannah over. "Wow, it always amazes me how quickly babies get better. I've decided to study about spider bites."

"I just told Rebel I was going to study spiders and spider bites," I said.

"Reaper is spraying everything inside and outside for spiders. I put your animals inside your RV. That looks like the perfect vehicle for a road trip," Ghost said. "By the way, you won't be able to go home for a few hours. And I'm sure everything will need to be cleaned because of all the spray."

"Anytime you want to use the RV, take it on a road trip," I said, smiling, wondering if he would mention the bedroom invasion. They stayed for another thirty minutes without mentioning anything. Which I was happy about. But then he walked back in and asked Rebel to walk with him. Rebel glanced my way and winked.

"Eat."

I smiled at Hannah. "Let's find you some food," I said, picking her up and walking down the hall with her. "My baby is hungry. Is there any jello or pudding I can feed her?"

"Did her doctor say she can eat?"

"No, he hasn't been in to see her. But as you can see, she is hungry and back to her old self."

She can't eat until the doctor says she can," The nurse said, and then she returned to what she was doing. I walked around until I found one of Steel Peterson's family members.

"Hi, Milly. Do you think you can help me? Hannah is hungry, but the nurse said she can't eat until the doctor says she can," I explained the spider bite to her. She tickled Hannah under the chin like I sometimes tickle Tater.

"Follow me; just don't say who got you this," she said, handing me a plastic spoon and three pudding cups.

"Thank you, my lips are sealed," I said as we walked back to the room, where I pushed a chair near the window to feed Hannah and let her have some sun. Rebel walked back in and smiled. "We've been banned from Ghost and Allison's bedroom," he said.

"I'm just happy he said it to you alone; I was scared of getting a lecture about walking into the grown-ups" bedroom without knocking," We both chuckled, relieved that Hannah had pudding on her face and her hand where she kept grabbing the spoon. Rebel got a warm washcloth and wiped her clean.
