27. Sarra

Sarra

It's been a month since the wedding, and it's been fantastic. Glory has been laughing and loving everyone, but when she sees her daddy, she makes it clear she wants him to pick her up. I was the happiest woman in the world.

I was worried about Reaper because he started having headaches. He finally decided to see a doctor, so Allison made an appointment with a specialist. Matthew drove us. I still haven't gotten used to calling Matthew by his Delta Force name, Maverick.

We pulled into the parking lot and got out. "Sweetheart, you don't have to go in with me."

"I know I don't have to, but I'm going to. I'm your wife and involved in your medical business, just like you are in mine, no matter what you say."

"Okay, sweetheart, I just didn't want you to get bored sitting there with me," Reaper explained.

"Are you kidding me? I'm never bored. I write in my head all the time. Besides, how could I ever get bored with you near me? I might even write a book about a crazy doctor."

"I'm going to walk over to this hamburger stand. I'll see you when you get out," Matthew said.

"Okay, get me a couple of them for when I get out," Reaper said.

"What about you, Sarra? Do you want one?"

"No, I'm fine. My tummy was a little upset this morning."

"Are you sick, sweetheart?" Reaper asked, looking at me.

"No, I feel better already. It was nothing."

"If you are feeling bad, I want you to tell me," Reaper said.

I patted his hand to hush him up. We only had to wait ten minutes before we were called to the back and then another ten minutes before the doctor walked through the door.

"Hello, Knox. I hear you've been having headaches. Is this your wife?"

"Yes, this is Sarra. Sarra, this is Doctor Truman."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sarra. Please call me Jack. I grew up with Knox and the others on the mountain. So it was you who Knox had to save. I only hope his vision didn't get harmed by him taking his bandages off."

"Reaper saved me and our newborn daughter," I said, ready to set him straight.

"Sarra is a writer," Reaper volunteered.

"A writer? What do you write?"

"I'm sure it's nothing you've read," I said, wanting to change the subject.

"She writes thrillers," Reaper said.

"Thrillers? I read lots of thrillers. I don't remember anyone with the name Sarra."

"She has a pen name. It's Jackson Martin."

"Jackson Martin? You're my favorite author! I can't wait for your next book to come out."

"Thank you, but shouldn't we be checking Reaper and seeing what is causing his headaches?" I asked.

"Yes, indeed. Sit over here, Knox, and let me look into your eyes."

I sat there for twenty minutes before the doctor stopped. "I'm going to send you over for a scan. We might have to do one more surgery before you are finished with your eye problems. I see something there, but I need the scans to know for sure."

"Do you want the scans today?" I asked.

"Yes, I'll call the hospital, and they'll be ready for you. I'll call you tomorrow and tell you what we found. If you need surgery, then we'll schedule it for the day after tomorrow, so that will be Thursday at six in the morning."

"Okay, we'll be waiting for your call."

Matthew was talking to the nurses when we came out. My cousin was very good-looking, with black hair and green eyes. The ladies always tried to get his attention. I was sure he broke a few hearts when he moved away from New Orleans.

Reaper had the scan done, and we went home. An hour later, Doctor Jack called. "Hey, Knox. I found something, and you are scheduled for surgery at six. I'll see you in the morning."

"Okay, I'll see you in the morning."

"What did he say?" I asked Reaper.

"He said he will see me in the morning. I don't want you to worry, sweetheart. Everything is going to work out. I just want to get these headaches gone."

"Me too," I said, hugging him. "I'm going to cook dinner for us tonight. Does everyone like tacos?"

"We love tacos. I think I'm going to check on Glory and lie down for a few minutes," Reaper said, kissing me before he left the room.

"Are you worried?" I turned around and saw Rebel standing there.

"Yes, I'm worried. He has to have surgery in the morning."

"What did the doctor say?"

"He said he saw something on the scan and would see Reaper for surgery at six in the morning."

"That's a good thing they saw it now so they can fix it. Who did he see?"

"Doctor Jack."

"He's the best. We grew up with him," Rebel explained.

"That's what he said. I'm going to make tacos."

"My favorite dinner. I'll see you later."

"Okay, I'll see you later," I said as he left the room.

Glory and I sat in the waiting room with the rest of the family, waiting for the doctor to tell us the surgery was finished and everything was fine. I knew that was wishful thinking. I just wanted this to be over and done with. Two hours later, the doctor walked in.

"The surgery went well, and Knox should be able to go home in the morning. He cannot take his bandages off until I do. If he wants them off, you all have to tell him no. Are we all in agreement with that?"

"Yes, we all agree with that," Spartan said.

"You can visit Knox in about thirty minutes," the doctor said, shaking everyone's hand.

"Thank you, Jack, for everything."

"You're welcome. I want Reaper's eyes to heal and those headaches to disappear, just like everyone else. So, let's make sure he leaves those bandages on."

"I'll make sure he doesn't take them off," I said, standing. "I'm going to feed Glory before we visit Reaper. Will he be awake?" I asked.

"I don't know; most likely, he'll be in and out of consciousness. He might be able to hear you. Only stay for a few minutes. The more sleep he gets, the better it is for him."

"Okay, we won't stay long."
