9. Chapter 9

I'm woken by an incessant ringing noise.

Groaning, I reach out my hand to slap the cause of the noise–my phone. I had set my alarm to get up early and meet Sawyer at the arena. We had met briefly yesterday, but she and my dad insisted that we needed to meet again today.

On a freaking Sunday.

I was sure this was the worst sort of punishment.

Rolling out of bed, I padded into the bathroom, where I quickly showered and dressed in a pair of black leggings and a teal Hawks' shirt my dad gifted me. I had to admit the teal, black, and silver Sunnyvale colors were pretty.

As I made my way across campus toward the arena, I realized that unless I got a car, I would be forced to do a lot of walking. Hopefully, I could talk my dad into getting me a vehicle. As I walked, I took in the serene vibes of Sunnyvale's campus. The cobblestone pathways and large oak trees made it feel as though you were walking through an English garden, rather than a school campus nestled in the heart of Sunnyvale.

The roar of an engine startled me as I moved toward the main road. Jumping back, I spotted a black Kawasaki bike swiftly moving toward me. When the driver lifted the helmet, I almost gasped when I saw Logan's face staring back at me. My heart skipped a beat and I swear, I felt my legs grow weak. This man had a strange effect on me, and it only angered me. I wasn't supposed to feel anything for Logan, but here I am.

"What the hell?" I yelled out.

"I saw you walking and thought I would say hello," Logan said, his hands running through his hair.

"So, you thought you would scare the hell out of me?" I knew I was being dramatic, but he could have said something before nearly driving onto the sidewalk.

"Calm down. I wasn't trying to scare you," he stated, offering a slight smile. "Anyway, are you heading to meet with Sawyer?"

Nodding, I calmed down and decided to try and be civil. I had no real reason to be upset with Logan. It wasn't his fault that he played for the Sunnyvale Hawks – the same team my father coached. It also wasn't his fault that neither of us had disclosed any personal information the night we met and hooked up. It just sucks that what was supposed to be one night of fun with a stranger has now put us both in a strange and uncomfortable position.

"Yeah, I guess I"ll get to figure out my new job. Are you going, too?" I ask though I am pretty sure he is.

"Yep. I'm on your dad's shit list, and if I don't want to be benched or kicked off the team, I need to see what PR magic can be done." He chuckles nervously. "Is your major in public relations?"

I hated it when people asked me about my future plans. To be honest, I never really thought about school or careers until recently. It was embarrassing, in a sense, because I"m surrounded by people who have plans, while I came from a life where my only plans were what night club I was going to next.

A few people walked by, staring at Logan. For some reason, he didn't even seem to notice any of his fans gawking at him. I was quickly reminded that I needed to answer his question.

"Not exactly. I haven't figured out a major yet, but maybe this will put me on the right path," I answered.

"Well, we don't want to be late. You want a ride?" Logan asked. His cheeks flushed red as we both thought about last night. He definitely gave me a ride of a lifetime then.

"Umm, I don't know. Wouldn't that look bad?" Sure, no one knew that we had hooked up, but would people start talking if they saw us arriving together?

Logan reached out and held out his helmet. "Come on. It won't be a big deal unless we make it one. Besides, we are going to the same place."

I wanted to argue, but I just couldn't find the strength to do it. Walking to the arena wasn't enticing but sitting on the back of a bike with Logan sure as hell was. Oh hell, what am I getting myself into?
