Chapter 10
Ezra hated that he'd wasted days traveling to Glasgow. He fucking hated Scotland, hated the people, and the wet weather. It had taken him too long to figure out Danika hadn't traveled to Glasgow. Instead, she'd mailed her phone north.
She'd tried to make a fool of him, but he would prevail. During the next few days, he'd worked his way through his network of people, determining that Danika wasn't hiding anywhere close. It had taken way too long to figure out that she'd probably fled the country. Finally, after almost a week, he learned that she'd left the country and flown to New York. Rage had filled him, and he'd destroyed the office where he'd learned the information.
His buddy tried to convince him to let it go, but he was past listening to others. Danika had to pay for thinking she could leave.
When he finally caught up to her, he would make her pay off every penny he spent tracking her down. She would never stop being his slave.
Once in New York, he ran into roadblock after roadblock. No one would help him find her. The police were totally useless, and he had few connections. At one point, he thought about heading back home and giving up. Danika had been a thorn in his side, and he should be done with her.
On what would have been his last full day in the US, he stopped by a disgusting hotel that was so far below his standards he didn't think Danika would stoop so low as to stay there. But the guy working the front desk recognized her. Told him she bought a train ticket south. The guy wasn't sure where she'd gone, but he knew she'd taken off before eight and told him the exact day.
Ezra hated paying the guy, but he'd given great information. Now, all he had to do was find Danika and force her to come home.
He found the train schedule and saw there were two trains that had left that morning, one heading west, the other going south. But where had she stopped? He didn't have time to figure out where she'd gone before he was called back to London. There were items that needed his attention, so he'd flown home, pissed that he would have to search for her from there.
The tasks that needed his touch were taking too long, so he asked two of his men to start looking for her. He'd just about given up the search when someone found a photo on social media with a woman in the background who looked like Danika. Ezra studied the photo, trying to determine if the woman in the background really looked like her. For a little while, he was sure it was her, but then he would look again and doubt his determination. The only way to make sure was to go to Savannah and figure out if it really was Danika.
He made reservations at a hotel downtown and then booked a flight. While he was in Savannah, he would do a little business. Not that he had many contacts in the States, but he needed to develop a network over there. If he could kill two birds with one stone, the trip to Savannah may not be a waste of time.
Once in Savannah, he wondered why Danika had run to this crappy city. Sure, there were parks in the downtown area, but it was hot and humid. He wanted to find Danika and get out of there. He knew where she worked. Now, he just had to wait until she showed up, and he would follow her to the place where she lived and take her from there.
