Joanna
That was so much better than calling it a night and going home.
My entire body still buzzed from the orgasm. I wanted more . I wanted to spread my legs and feel Theo sink into me, filling me with that wonderful ache of man. But we had plenty of time tonight. There was no rush.
And I really wanted to repay the favor. Especially after Theo had proved how unselfish he was in bed. I considered my blowjob skills to be well above average, bordering on professional. I couldn't wait to make him squirm the way he'd done to me.
But just before I could get his pants off, the music stopped playing and his phone rang.
Pain twisted on Theo's gorgeous face. "That's my phone."
"Let it ring," I purred down at him.
His eyes darted toward the table. "I can't. It's work."
Unconvinced, I reached into his pants and wrapped my fingers around his hard length. Yeah, that's a big cock all right .
"How about now?" I said, giving it a squeeze.
Theo groaned. "I have to take it." Then he sat up, brushed his lips against mine, and then moved me off of him like I weighed nothing.
"Boo," I said, pouting on the bed as he went to the table to pick up his phone. He looked irresistible like that, shirtless and with his jeans hanging low on his hips, with an obvious bulge at the front.
He answered the phone, said a few words. "All right. Text me the details." Then he hung up and turned to me. "You're not going to believe this…"
I sat up straight. "No."
"I have to go into the office."
"No!" I repeated. "It's ten o'clock. Why do you need to go in?"
He grabbed his shirt from the floor and began putting it on. "It's an emergency."
"Who has a dental emergency this late at night?"
"Lots of people. Like, all the time."
Now I was annoyed. I knew it was silly to expect him to prioritize our hook-up over work, but I was not ready for the night to end. "Is this some sort of excuse to leave?"
His eyebrows rose. "You think I want to stop right as you were taking off my pants? Trust me: if I could stay, I would."
"Unbelievable," I muttered. "The first good sex I've had in months and it's cut short."
"Feel free to stay and take advantage of room service," Theo said while he finished buttoning up his shirt. "No limit, but don't take advantage of it."
I didn't have a witty response. I didn't feel like making jokes now that the night was ending.
"I think I'd rather just go home," I replied.
His phone chimed with a text message, and his eyes scanned the screen. Then he smiled. "Actually, I have a better idea. Why don't you come with me?"
"To deal with your dumb work emergency?" I replied. "I'm just going to go home."
He took my face in his hands and gave me a long, slow kiss. "I want you to trust me. Come to the office with me and you'll understand."
"Why?"
"You'll see when we get there. My office is only two blocks away. Joanna, I promise you it will be worth it."
I didn't believe him. I felt deflated and just wanted to go home to watch the Blackhawks game. But a part of me, a very small part, was curious.
"Surely that earth-shattering orgasm earned me a little bit of trust," Theo said.
"Let's not get carried away. It was an average orgasm."
"There was nothing average about the noises you made," he replied with a goofy grin.
Against my willpower, a laugh escaped my throat. "Fine. Let's go."
I got dressed and we left the hotel. We weren't arm-in-arm as we walked down the street this time; I was tense while waiting to see what could possibly be more important than staying in bed with me.
He led me into a stone pre-war office building and we took the elevator to the third floor. It was a dentist office, with the name etched into the glass door: Dr. Andrew Princeton, D.D.S.. An assistant was waiting in the lobby, but it wasn't her that drew my eye.
Standing next to her was a man holding a bag of ice to his face. He was wearing hockey gear, and a red-and-white Blackhawks jersey.
"Doctor Manafort," the assistant said. "I was going to prep room three."
In the blink of an eye, Theo's lighthearted demeanor fell away and an air of competence and control took over. "Let's use room two. Easier cleanup when we're done."
"Right away, doctor." She scurried away.
"I thought we agreed you'd keep your mouth guard in during fights," Theo said.
The hockey player removed the ice pack from his face and gave a toothless, bloody grin. "You should see the other guy."
"You're Connor Bedard," I breathed.
The hockey player frowned. "Who's she?"
"This is Joanna," Theo explained. "Your call interrupted our date, and I wanted to show her that it really was an emergency."
"Sorry about that, doc. Didn't mean to ruin your night…"
"No apologies. That's why the team keeps me on retainer." Theo gestured toward the dental assistant, who had returned. "Lexi will take you back to the room and prep you for surgery. We'll get you all fixed up."
"Thanks, doc."
"That was Connor Bedard," I exclaimed when we were alone again. "The Center for the Blackhawks!"
"Yep. Looks like he lost two central incisors on the top, and one on the bottom."
"You didn't tell me you're the team doctor for the Chicago Blackhawks!"
"I only just inherited the job," Theo explained. "My mentor, Doctor Andrew Princeton, has worked with the team for decades. He got a ring for being the team doctor when they won the Stanley Cup in 2015. He just retired. We're still switching out all the monogrammed stuff for my name."
I felt like I'd been hit by a bus. Connor Bedard, my favorite hockey player, was in the next room. And Theo wasn't a dumb-but-pretty Ken Doll after all. He was a fucking dentist! He had a doctorate!
"When I asked about your job, you said you mostly do paperwork."
"I do," Theo muttered. "Paperwork is half my job these days."
"You intentionally kept this from me. You lied."
Theo sighed and turned to face me. "I've been on a lot of dates with women who just want to date a doctor. Too many dates. I wanted you to like me for who I am, not my profession, so I removed some of the details from my profile."
I could see how heartfelt his answer was, and it was tough to stay mad at him. "Fair enough. I understand."
He let out a long sigh of relief and cupped my cheek. "Thanks for not being mad."
"I'm still mad our date ended early. But now I'm mad at the circumstances, not at you specifically. I can't believe you didn't tell me! If I were the dentist for the Blackhawks, everyone would know about it. Do you know why?"
"Why?"
"Because I'd have a tattoo on my forehead that says, I'm the dentist for the Blackhawks . It's all I would talk about."
Theo laughed, then glanced at his watch. "This is going to take a couple of hours. I can meet you back at the hotel whenever I'm finished…"
"How about a rain check instead?"
Theo grinned. "I'm free tomorrow night."
I winced. "I've got… plans tomorrow night. But I'm free the rest of the week."
"I'm going to be out of town the next two weeks," Theo replied. "And no, that's not an excuse. How about we meet up when I'm back in town?"
I smiled up at him. "It's a date."
Theo pulled me into a kiss, folding his arms around me. For a few seconds, all the magic from the night returned and I considered maybe going back to the hotel room to wait for him after all.
Our kiss was interrupted by a loud moan of pain from the other room. Theo chuckled. "That kind of kills the mood, doesn't it?"
"Would you judge me if I told you it kind of turns me on?"
Theo barked a laugh. "You hockey fans are nuts." He kissed me one more time, then pulled away. "I'll text you."
As I turned to leave, I noticed a mini fridge underneath a table in the waiting room. Sure enough, it was the same one from the hotel room.
I can't believe I assumed he was dumb.
