47. ELLIE

ELLIE

Three days later, with Savin’s heat finished, I find myself sitting across from Detective Grayson as he goes through the details one last time. He frowns and scratches his head, staring at the report, then me, then the paper again. Macon and Savin are on either side of me, waiting for the detective to say something or at least respond to the account that we wrote up.

“Aayla really did this? I’m so fucking sorry, man. She was kind of a bitch when we dragged her in. You’ll be happy to know she spent the night in the cell for slapping one of the new hires. Should have seen her face. Although, you probably already know that.”

The tabloids haven’t been quiet about this messy affair, especially after learning that Aayla lived up to her name—the Astor witch. The house has been bombarded with apology cards and Macon showed me this morning how the public opinion has completely shifted in our favor as if they never hated us before.

I hate knowing that one mistake could upend everything we’ve worked for.

“I think I have everything I need. Just need you to fill out some paperwork and then you’re on your way to not having to deal with her anymore.”

I’m ecstatic to hear that Aayla won’t be a part of our lives but that also reminds me that I still have yet to tell my parents that I’m mated. And pregnant. Thank the goddess they don’t watch much TV or listen to the news. I’m hoping Carleen can deliver that blow for me. It’s not like they’ll travel here to congratulate me but I know that Macon will 100% put together a road trip to meet them. Not exactly what I want to spend my time doing but I owe it to my parents to show that I found my happy ending.

The detective releases us a few minutes later once Macon is done signing, all three of us piling into the car to head for the clinic my OB/GYN works out of. While Macon usually drives, he’s opted for a driver, both of my mates holding me between them to give me much-needed comfort. I know there’s nothing wrong with the babies but having them in the room will be a different experience.

Needing a distraction, I pull out my phone to text my sister.

Hey

Hey yourself. Appointment is today, right?

She must be keeping in touch with Macon to know that because I forgot to tell her when I made the appointment. I love that they’ve grown close.

Yeah. We’re on our way.

Everything else sorted out? Seems you’re a little bit famous and now everyone wants to know who this ‘Ellie’ girl is.

I might give an exclusive ^^

Don’t you dare!

Tell me you’re eating all three meals and drinking water and I’ll decline the interview.

I am.

I chuckle at her playfulness.

I’ll let Tati know

You don’t have to.

She already read the texts. Too late.

Wait… she’s over there?

Tati and Carleen are from two different worlds, not to mention that their sexual preferences are completely different. Tati and I are like peas in a pod but Carleen is more of a lone wolf. She prefers her space and her silence. And yet, Tati has been over at the apartment more times than I can count in the last couple of weeks.

I want to ask if there’s something there but Carleen will tell me eventually. Hell, Tati will blurt it out next time I see her.

Tell her I say hi. We’re almost at the doctor”s.

Let your mates know I said the same.

I make a point to call Tati later to figure out what’s going on.

“Carleen says hi. Tati is over there again.” I didn’t mean to tack on that last part but now that’s out there. Savin giggles at my side and then tries to straighten his face. He fails, spectacularly. I twist around to glare at Macon and realize that this isn’t new information. “Oh my god, my sister said something to you, didn’t she? She likes Tati.”

“I plead the fifth. Any and all information between your sister and I is private.” But Macon’s lips tick up in a small smile, telling me that I’m right. Oh, I will absolutely be grilling my sister later. And Tati. Hell, I’ll grill them both together.

We arrive at Dr. Kelly’s office and I waddle my way inside, stuffed in the middle of my two mates. Their heads are on a swivel, people pointing and murmuring as they recognize the Astor couple. Correction. The Astor trio. I can’t hide my smile as we’re called inside the room, Dr. Kelly asking general questions about my health and then who the men in the room are.

“My mates,” I say. It feels so fucking good to say it aloud.

“Mmhmm, and this must be the father,” Dr. Kelly mentions as she sticks a hand out to Savin. He stares at it incredulously, no doubt surprised that he’s being noticed before Macon. He clasps it and then the excitement spreads across his face. “And you, their Alpha.” She extends the same courtesy to Macon and if I didn’t like my doctor before, I do now. “Alright, let’s see these babies, shall we?”

I shimmy onto the table, pulling my shirt up over my belly so that Dr. Kelly can spread the jelly over my stomach. Savin and Macon huddle around my side and head, their hands on my shoulder and arm as we stare at the screen. A gasp falls from my lips when I feel the cold goo on my skin and then Dr. Kelly starts moving the device along, all of us smiling at the black-and-white picture.

“They look very healthy. Here, you can kind of see-” Dr. Kelly breaks off and frowns. I prop myself up on my elbows, worried that there’s something wrong. Savin grips my hand as we continue to look at the screen but we have no idea what we’re truly looking for. “Ellie, there’s no easy way to say this but you’re not having twins. You’re having triplets.”

My face blanches at the thought of three babies running around until I remember that one little image in my head of me holding my baby girl while two boys rampage through the living room. Everyone is waiting for me to say something but I have no idea what to say. There are too many thoughts and emotions running through my head so I just pick one.

Probably not the most appropriate but it’s fitting.

I turn to Savin and drag him down to my chest so he can clearly hear me. “You motherfucker. Triplets run in your family, don’t they?”

His lips quirk up into a deviant smile. “My father was a triplet.”

Macon bursts out laughing, Dr. Kelly chuckling at my plight. I’m not upset but fuck I didn’t expect three children right out of the gate. “No more babies for you, Savin. Fuck. Seriously? Macon, I swear to the goddess if you have-”

“Only singles in my family, sweetheart. Does this mean that the next three babies are mine?”

I snatch the paper towel from Dr. Kelly to wipe off my belly and struggle down to my feet. “We are not having six children. I can’t believe either of you.” They fall into another fit of laughter, Dr. Kelly letting me know that my three babies are very healthy and that she sees no problem with their growth.

I’m due for another appointment in a few weeks but for now, I can resume life as normal. Whatever that looks like.

Apparently, it’ll include beating my mates over the head a few times for putting three babies in me at once. Carleen and Tati will be ecstatic. I, on the other hand, am still coming to terms with it. For now, I’m going to milk it.

“On the way home, we’re stopping for ice cream.”

Macon grunts at my statement, Savin shaking his head. “You need real food, angel.”

“And you decided to give me three children. Ice cream.” When Savin easily gives in, I victoriously pump my fist in the air. Maybe these next few months won’t be all that terrible.
