Epilogue 1
EPILOGUE 1
Ten Months Later
With a cupcake in one hand, Gage snuck up behind Dani and wrapped his other arm around her waist.
"Happy one year, love." He placed the cupcake down in front of her on the kitchen counter.
"You remembered." She spun around so the front of her body was flush against his and her arms went up around his neck.
"I would never forget. I thought I was going to lose you that day."
Finding her in the clubhouse with a needle sticking out of her arm was one of the scariest days of his life. Watching her detox from the heroin that was forced upon her was the hardest thing he’d ever gone through. But getting to watch her flourish over the last year had been some of the happiest moments in his life.
"I'm alive and sober today because of you."
He shook his head. "Nope, that was all you. I just walked alongside you on this journey. It's you who deserves all the credit. I'm so damn proud of you."
Some days were still hard for her but those days were few and far between. His job required him to travel but he kept it to a minimum, and when he was forced to be away, one or more of the other wives stayed with her. He no longer needed to suggest it and he doubted Dani even needed anyone with her, but it had become a tradition, one that all of the wives seemed to enjoy. Like one big sleepover. Except now there were babies involved, so those nights sometime involved Dani sleeping with a child on her chest.
"I wanted to talk to you about something," Dani started.
There was uncertainty in her tone and he didn't like that. Her confidence had grown tenfold over the past year and anything that disrupted that made him angry.
"Who do I need to kill?" He would do it too. He would do anything for her.
Dani laughed but he was dead serious. When it came to her, no one was safe. She was, and would always be, his first priority. Anyone that made her feel anything but one hundred percent confident didn’t deserve to walk on this earth.
"No one, I promise, but all the cuddling and spending time with Bree's son got me thinking that maybe I wouldn't screw up being a mother." She shrugged like it wasn't a big deal but he knew the truth. This was a big step for them. "I mean, I'm not saying we need to get pregnant immediately, but maybe in the future. The near future."
He didn't need to hear more. Gage picked her up by her ass so that her legs wrapped around his hips and he headed straight for their bedroom.
"What do you think you're doing?" Dani laughed and buried her face into his neck.
"Taking you to our bed so I can show you just how happy what you said makes me. We don't need to try now but I'm not passing up the opportunity to make love to you."
"Do you always think with your cock?"
Gage laughed along with her. "When it comes to you? Of course I do, but I also love you, so don't worry. It all works out."
Dani nipped his neck. "Sure it does, and I love you too. Always have and always will."
Damn right. She was his first love and she would be his last love. It might've taken them some time to find their way back to one another, but it only made what they had stronger. And for that he was willing to overlook the past.
