13. CHAPTER 13
13
JULES
“Jules, you can head out. Simon will stay,” Lev says.
“Okay. Should I go over to Starlight? Will Dima need me?”
“Kai’s there. I’m sure he has it covered.”
“I never said he didn’t have it covered. But he’s only just started.”
“He isn’t technically working, Jules. Dima just wanted him to get familiar with the bar. You know this. So why don’t you take your sickening pining ass over to check on him.”
“Pining? I’m not pining. I’m looking out for him.”
“So you keep saying, but I ain’t your therapist. So fuck off and do whatever you need to do.”
“Charming. See ya later.”
I don’t get a response, so I drive over to Starlight. I genuinely am only trying to help, I don’t think it’s wrong for me to keep an eye out for Kai. I promised to take care of him for Jenny, and keep him under my wing.
Parked, I walk toward the club and head inside. As I walk into the main area, all of the tables are full of happy patrons as usual. The lights are dimmed in a sultry red that casts over the stage where a jazz band plays alongside a beautiful woman who is singing vocals. Her raspy voice carries over the room, blanketing it in all things seductive with arousal intent.
Walking further into the bar, I stop short when I spot Kai at the bar, speaking to a young woman who I don’t recognize. She has long, thick black hair and is wearing a backless knee length fitted dress. I can’t lie, she’s hot as fuck. That’s until she throws her head back dramatically, laughing at something that Kai has said into her ear, very closely into her ear. I clench my fists, trying to quell the storm brewing inside me. My stomach tightens when the woman places her hand on Kai’s arm, a clear sign of flirting. A tornado of pure jealousy takes over my entire being, and I would quite happily eliminate the bitch to get her sights off Kai. He should be focused on his job, not flirting and trying to get some ass while he’s still on trial.
Feeling eyes on me, I turn to the side to see Seb behind the bar watching me, a deep frown mars his face as he purses his lips. He then looks over to Kai, then back to me again and a slow smile spreads across his face, which confuses me more than the judgemental look he just gave me. As I look back to Kai and notice the girl has gotten closer to him and Kai hasn’t backed away, I can’t hold off any longer and walk over with determined steps—target in sight. As I get closer, a hand grabs my arm, and I look to see that it’s Seb. How did he get from behind the bar so fast?
“Calm down, Jules. Let him have some fun before you go all psycho on his ass.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You’re just like the brothers. A bunch of alpha assholes. Fine, I can’t stop you, but take my advice, and don’t be hard on him.”
“That’s awful fucking advice, and I’ll go as hard on him as I like.”
Seb laughs and turns to leave.
“Like I said, possessive asshole, but who am I to judge?”
Exactly. I mean, Dima kidnapped Seb for fucks sake, so I would love to know what he considers going easy on someone.
With each step closer to Kai, my anger increases as the girl starts whispering into his ear. That’s it.
“What are you doing?”
My question stops the conversation between the budding fucking lovebirds. The girl looks at me, confused, and Kai just stands there gawking like he has witnessed the devil spawn from the ground. Damn fucking right I have. Yes I know, I have no right to be a dick, I don’t own him, and he doesn’t answer to me. But tell my mind and body that. This is all kinds of fucked up, but if he doesn’t walk away from this girl right now, I will physically remove him myself.
“What do you mean? I’m just talking. Jules, this is Chloe, Chloe, this is Jules, a work colleague.”
“A what, now?” I say.
“Err, should I leave?” Chloe says.
“Yes. You’re not needed here. Leave before I escort you out myself.”
“Jules! Stop it. What’s gotten into you?”
“You should be working, not trying to get your dick wet, Kai,” I say, and I’m aware I’m lying. I don’t want him near anyone.
“Dima said it was fine to have a drink with Seb at the bar. I’m not doing anything wrong.”
“Well Seb is on the other side of the bar, and she isn’t him,” I say, pointing to Chloe who we both now notice has left. Kai turns to me, and his beautiful face morphs into rage. It gets my blood flowing and my dick interested. Annoyed Kai does things to me, and I’m already one hundred percent addicted. I want to see what other reactions I can get out of him.
“You’re a controlling asshole, Jules. Why do you keep thinking the worst of me?”
“I don’t see any bad in you, Kai. That’s why I’m pushing you.”
“No, you’re being a cunt, and I would love to punch you in the face right now.”
Now we’re talking. Foreplay of the best kind. I move closer to Kai, barely an inch between us and I grab his throat with my hand, enjoying the soft skin of his neck. Our chests push together as I pull him close and I fucking love it.
“Give it a try, sweetheart. But I warn you, I will have you pinned on your back in seconds, begging for me to let you go,” I say. My voice has turned all caveman and growly, a voice that only Kai can get from me. He seems to have a hidden lock when it comes to my reaction to him as I’ve never felt like this about someone before. Feral. Hungry. Nasty and so damn horny.
Kai lifts both hands to try and remove my tight hold on him, but I don’t want to let go. His eyes darken, his pouty mouth panting against the strain on his throat, his words come out stubborn and raspy.
“I’d love to see you try. You underestimate me.”
“I always love an underdog,” I say as I squeeze him even tighter. His eyes close, and his cheeks pinken.
“Okay, can you guys leave now? I don’t want you fighting or fucking in the bar,” Seb says from beside us, removing us from the bubble that surrounds us. Shit, this is getting out of control.
“I second that. Get back to the house,” Dima says, who has appeared from thin air. Or maybe I was too taken up with Kai to notice him arrive.
“Don’t you need me to stay back?”
“If you two hadn’t been in a weird standoff, you’d have noticed Simon arrived. Now get out,” Dima orders. Kai quickly composes himself and walks off toward the exit as I follow closely behind him. He gets into my car and doesn’t speak.
“Kai…”
“Don’t. Can we just get back, please? You’re fucking with my head.”
“I’m not trying to fuck with your head. I’m trying to guide you, to remove any distractions,”
“I’m allowed to have fun. I wasn’t doing anything wrong,”
“Kai I swear to god, stop pushing me. You shouldn’t be flirting with anyone, and that’s final.”
“Are you my fucking dad? You can’t tell me who I can flirt with, Jules. You’re not the boss of me!”
“Yes, I fucking am. You’ll do as you’re told, Kai, or so help me you’ll regret testing me.”
“You wouldn’t dare touch me.”
I grab his hair at his nape and tug on it hard until he shouts out.
“I wouldn’t be so fucking sure about that, Kai. Now, be a good boy and be quiet.”
I’m so aroused right now, it's not even pleasant. I want to rut into him and show him who’s boss. His attitude will be my undoing, and I’ve no idea what lengths I’d go to, to keep him in line. Kai slowly nods his head in agreement, so I let go and start the engine.
We drive in silence, walk into the house without a word, and part ways to our own rooms where we don’t speak or see each other for the rest of the night. I have to draw a line with this unspoken connection that’s building like wildfire between us. Too much chemistry. I’ll just stick to being his family, guiding him through life here and hope we can get past it.
But I want him.
But you can’t have him.
