Chapter Two

A few hours later, there was a commotion in the foyer Roland could hear from his office. He went to see what was happening and found a large man carrying a small person. His father waved him over.

"What's going on?" Roland asked.

"Your bride is here," Warren said.

He glanced at the person wrapped up in a blanket. "What the hell is wrong with her?"

His father chuckled. "Nothing, her father drugged her."

Roland's eyes widened. "He what? Why?"

His father chuckled. "He thought it was best. It seems she was a bit upset by the turn of events, much like you. Instead of putting up with drama, he sedated her for the flight. He must have given her too much because she was supposed to be awake before now."

Roland looked at the man holding her. "Who are you?"

"I'm her bodyguard. I am to drop her off and leave," the big man said.

"Follow me," Roland said. Without looking at his father again, he started up the stairs. The man following him wasn't a bit winded carrying a person up a long flight of stairs.

He took her to the room across from his and opened the door. "Set her on the bed. I'll take care of her."

The man turned after laying the woman on the mattress. "Her cases will be delivered tonight." He hesitated. "I can stay if you like. She might want to see someone she knows."

Roland shook his head. "No. Everything will be all right. Is there anything I need to know about her?"

Roland was instantly suspicious when the color of the man's face changed, and his eyes looked down.

"Her name is Laila, and she's a very nice person."

"I see," Roland said. He'd find out about her eventually. "You may go."

The man hesitated again. "Are you sure you don't…"

"I'm sure. You're dismissed."

The man looked at the woman one more time before walking out of the room. Roland was pleased that the man was loyal and cared for the woman. It told him a lot about her already.

Roland turned the light on by the bed, untucked the blanket around her, and stared down at his future wife. She was more beautiful than he expected. She was also a lot smaller. He guessed she was at least a foot shorter than him. That didn't bother him because he'd always liked petite women. He lifted her up, pulled the blanket off, and threw it to the floor.

She wore a long floral skirt with a short-sleeved white top. She didn't have any shoes on, and he marveled at how small and dainty her feet were. Her toenails were painted a shimmery pink color he found charming. Her hair was long, wavy, and very dark—as dark as his own. Her complexion was amazing. It was like she'd never been out in the sun. Very white with no freckles or blemishes. He wished he could see her eye color, but he wouldn't have to wait long.

Roland knew she might complain about it, but he was going to undress her so she'd be more comfortable. He walked to his room and grabbed one of his shirts before going back across the hall.

He unbuttoned her shirt and pulled it off. The breath caught in his throat at the pretty breasts encased in a white lace bra. Jesus, it usually took him more than looking at breasts to get hard, but hers were extraordinary. He unsnapped the back and pulled it off, leaving her in a skirt and panties.

His mouth watered with the need to taste her. The shell pink of her nipples would look like cherries when he was done with them. He slipped his shirt on her and buttoned it up before rolling the sleeves up. He then pulled off her skirt and had another shock. Her white panties matched the bra she wore, but it was the fact he could tell she had very little pubic hair that made his heart trip in his chest.

He pulled his gaze away and lifted her, pulled back the covers, and set her back down. He covered her and then just watched her for a moment. Her eyelashes were so long and thick that if he didn't know any better, he would have thought she was wearing mascara. Her lips were full and made sweat pop out on his forehead at the thought of her on her knees, with her mouth taking his cock and his hand in her hair to guide and control her movements.

Roland pulled a chair over to the bed and got comfortable. There was no way he was leaving her until she woke up and got her bearings. He didn't want her first day in her new home to be terrifying. He had to find a way to get his mind off fucking her, or he'd be miserable for the next few hours.

As the minutes and hours passed, he started to worry when she didn't wake up. He sat beside her hip on the mattress and pressed his fingers on her neck. Her pulse was strong, and her breathing was steady and deep. He decided if she didn't wake up in the next hour, he'd call in a doctor to check her out.

He looked out the window to see the moon was bright enough to light the room. He only had the small light by the bed on, so the room would have been shadowy and maybe look menacing to her without it.

Her sigh startled him. He stayed by her and set a hand on her hip. Her eyes opened and blinked several times. Violet. That was the color of her eyes and one he'd never seen before.

When a flash of pain filled her eyes, and she grabbed onto her head, he got worried.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

He could tell she was trying to focus on him, but the pain was making it impossible. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and called Daniel Crawford. He was in Society, so he knew he could trust him.

"Daniel, this is Roland. I'll tell you the whole story later, but I have a woman here at my house that was sedated. She's been out for a long time, and now as she wakes up, she's holding her head and crying."

"Fuck, do you have any idea what they gave her?"

"No."

"I'll come now. Put a cold washcloth on her head and tell her to keep her eyes closed."

"Okay. Thanks," Roland said and hung up. He walked into the bathroom, wet a washcloth, and walked back to the bed. "It's going to be okay. I have a doctor coming to examine you. Let me put this on your forehead. He says it will help."

Roland set it across her upper face. He was going to pull away, but her tiny hand came up and pressed down on his. He had no idea if she knew what she was doing, but he was surprised by his reaction to her touch and the depth of concern he felt.

"What happened?" she asked so softly he had to lean down to hear her.

He had no idea how much to tell her but decided if it were him, he'd want to know. "Your father sedated you for your flight."

She stiffened.

"He gave you more than you needed," he told her.

He watched her press her lips together but didn't say anything.

A knock at the door made her cringe. "It's okay, Honey. No one will harm you here."

She nodded slowly.

He got up to answer and relaxed when he saw Daniel. "I'm glad you came so quickly. She seems to be in a lot of pain."

"We'll get her taken care of."

Roland sat down at the end of the bed and put a hand on her ankle.

"This is the doctor, Honey."

"Hi … what's your name?" Daniel asked her.

Roland cursed under his breath. "It's Laila," he said.

"My name is Daniel, and I'm here to take care of you."

"Thank you, Daniel."

"Can you tell me your symptoms?"

"Bad headache, nausea, and lethargy."

Roland's eyebrows rose. If she could articulate that well, she wasn't as slow as his father made her out to be.

His grip on her leg tightened when Daniel made her cry out in pain as she checked her eyes.

"I know, I'm sorry." Daniel did a few more things before he pulled a syringe out of his bag.

"What's that?" Roland asked.

"It's for her pain. It's the fastest way to make her feel better."

Roland nodded.

"We're going to turn you on your side so I can give you a shot in your buttocks," Daniel said.

She opened her mouth. "But…"

"It will take away the pain," Roland said.

She settled and nodded.

Roland pulled the blanket down, turned her on her side, and lifted the shirt. He watched Daniel pull a corner of her panties down and give her a shot. She acted like she hadn't felt it.

"That wasn't so bad, now, was it?" Daniel asked.

"No," Laila said.

Roland covered her back up.

Daniel put the things away before pulling out a small bag of pills. "Here are some pain relievers, and if after six hours she's still in pain, give her one of these. If she still doesn't feel well after that, give me a call."

Roland nodded. "She'll be taken care of."

"From the look on your face, I don't doubt it. You probably don't want to leave her side, so call me when you get a chance later. I've got a few questions."

"I will. Thank you for coming," Roland said and shook the other man's hand.

Daniel touched Laila's shoulder. "It was nice to meet you."

"Thank you for coming," she murmured.

"You're welcome." Daniel smiled. "She has a charming accent, doesn't she?"

Roland nodded and listened to the door close behind him without taking his eyes off Laila, his fiancée. God, even thinking that should have scared him, but spending the little time he had with her, he knew he wanted her.

"Rest, Laila. I'll be here."

"Could I have some water, please?"

"Sure. Do you think you could eat anything?"

"No."

"Okay. Let me get you that water."

He stood and walked into the bathroom. He grabbed a glass from the cupboard and filled it with cool water. In the bedroom, he set the glass on the nightstand, lifted her to a sitting position, braced against his chest, and then handed her the water.

Her hand was shaking so hard the water sloshed over the side. "Here, let me help."

Roland took the glass from her and brought it up to her mouth. She drank it down and sighed. "Would you like some more?" he asked.

"No, thank you."

He gently laid her down and pulled the blanket up over her chest. "Is there anything else you want, Honey?"

She started to shake her head but stopped suddenly. He guessed it had to do with her headache.

"No."

"Okay, then rest."

He watched her close her eyes. He sat back and stared at her face. It was something he felt he could do for the rest of his life.
