Chapter 47
I glancedat the others to see how they were handling this bombshell.
Bredon was excited. His eyes were shining, and he was practically vibrating with energy.
Talia leaned in. "What was it like?"
Bredon flashed an almost-smile. "It was like here, but so much more. The colors…they were brighter."
Talia let out a deep sigh. "I wish I could see it."
Bredon continued, "I felt Her presence. I don't know the words to describe the feeling. I knew that I was in the presence of a being much stronger than me, but I did not fear her."
I believe that he thought he'd experienced this event.
"I told her what had happened. I knew she would remember Charles Burke's actions against Her Marked. I told her about my bite making you sick."
I didn't like the way the last part sounded. Bredon would never hurt me.
"She showed me what to do."
"How can we help?" Sig asked. Even if he didn't believe this story, he would help his friend.
"We need to return to the roof. We will need something for Sage to lie on."
"A blanket," Sig said, his expression growing excited.
"Then I will remove the infection from the bite area."
"How?" Talia asked.
Bredon paused, and he dropped his eyes and glanced to the side.
I knew I wasn't going to like his answer.
Sig must have sensed why Bredon paused. "Do we really need to know? Bredon knows, and that's all that matters."
Talia frowned and opened her mouth to speak.
Sig gave a slight shake of his head.
"I guess it will be a surprise." Talia gave Sig a look that should have made him cover his dick in fear.
"It will be messy," Bredon advised, "and Sage will need something to cushion her body from the roof."
"Then we'll need a tarp and a blanket or two," Sig decided.
"This is going to take some time," Bredon informed us.
I couldn't stop thinking of the videos of people performing exorcisms. There was always yelling and sweating, plus crying. Suddenly, I became concerned. "Will that be safe for you?" This sounded unbelievable.
"Only I can save you," he said proudly. "And after I rid your body of the toxins, I will bite you and formally request our mating."
"I'll meet you on the roof." Sig pushed back his chair and got to his feet.
"It sounds like thirsty work; I'll bring bottles of water." Talia was on her feet.
"Are we doing this now?" I was still trying to grasp all that he had shared. I felt weird. A little shaky from the hope and an equal amount of fear.
Bredon took my hand in his. "We can do this, Sage. You must trust me." Hope shone in his eyes.
"I do."
Bredon had left out a few details. Or he might have done that on purpose because he feared I would refuse.
I was now lying on my stomach, naked on a soft blanket that covered an old tarp.
Bredon and the others were praying to the moon.
I tried to control my breathing. I wanted this to work, but I was scared. This was turning into something weird.
I closed my eyes, trying to calm my pounding heart.
Their words became background noise as I felt my body and mind calm. The roof no longer felt as hard under my body. I was warm and relaxed.
"Child, you must trust in me." The deep voice seemed to surround me.
The first thing I realized was that I wasn't terrified. The second was that if I listened hard, I could hear the others praying.
I knew that the voice was waiting for me to decide if I could trust her. I tried to calm my churning emotions and focus. "I love Bredon. The more I learn about him, the more I respect him."
"He is an honorable male," the voice agreed.
"I don't want to bring him more heartache or problems. I've done enough of that."
"A Lycan's life is infinite. No path is without tribulations. You are impressive for a human. You will be more so as Lycan."
"A Lycan?" My surprise turned, my voice shrill.
"Your Mate is strong. His Mate must be so."
I concentrated on memorizing her words. I hoped I could make sense of them later. "Will you help us, please?" I begged as I dropped to my knees and bowed my head. It was an unplanned move, but it felt right.
"Rest, child. All will be well."
