CHAPTER SEVEN

“Hey baby! Ready to go and get something to eat?”

Jayson came out of the locker room to find Lana leaning up against the wall. He could tell something was on her mind.

He had an idea but would deal with that privately without an audience. He also knew that she saw the shit that Ashe directed her way.

He had to give his girl props- she didn’t jump the fence and beat the bitch’s ass like he knew she wanted. He knew Ashe still attempted shit despite his warning, but it was never anything drastic.

He would have known about it thanks to Peter and a few others on the team he had assigned to watch over his girl when he wasn’t around.

“Yeah. Where are we going tonight?” she asked.

“How about we grab a burger, fries, and a milkshake and go to Lookout Lake tonight? I don’t feel like sharing you with the rest of the crowd tonight.”

“Oh, okay. That is fine.”

Jayson knew he’d made the right call when her smile lit up big time. He’d find out what was going on in her mind once they got up to Lookout Lake.

Once he found a spot to park his truck, he opened the door and climbed out. Tonight, he was going to put Lana’s mind at ease about those bullshit rumors going around once and for all.

He was letting her make the moves. He knew she was getting frustrated with him cutting things out when she wanted to go further than they already had.

For the last couple of months, it had been hell on both of them, him in more ways than one, with him stopping short of fucking her tight pussy in the bed of his truck. Every day, he’d kiss her breathlessly.

Jayson put the tailgate down and waited for Lana to climb up into the bed of his truck. He dubbed her spider monkey because of the way she would climb his truck and him when he got her revved up.

He waited until she was done eating before he faced her, letting her know he wanted to talk. When she turned sheepish eyes his way, he knew it was time.

“What’s going through that mind of yours, baby?”

“Nothing really. Thank you for dinner tonight. It was good.”

“Lana, I know about the rumors going around. I want honest answers from you. Do you believe what they are saying?”

Jayson watched as Lana studied him for several seconds before looking down at her hands. His heart was pounding hard and fast.

Her answer would secure them tighter in their relationship or break them. If she didn’t trust him, there was no reason for them to go any further after tonight.

He would rather bathe in acid than ever cheat on her. She was his world.

No other woman existed for him, well, except for his grandmother, mother and two sisters. But they didn’t count in this situation.

“I admit, at first, I questioned the truth of what was being said. I let it get to me. But, in truth, I knew they were lies because it was coming from Ashe, Amber and Haley. Chompers even tried telling me…”

“Hold up! Chompers even told you I was fucking Ashe?” Jayson demanded, his voice going ice cold at that revelation.

“Yes. But he wouldn’t look me in the eyes as he said what he did. Plus, Haley was making him say that they were telling the truth.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because Peter said he was going to deal with him since he walked up on the tail end of the conversation and heard what was said. Amber, Haley, and Chompers have left me alone since then. Cunt muffin only smirks at me when I’m alone and you’re not nearby. Tonight at homecoming was the first time she’s really tried to get to me with you near.”

“You still should have told me!”

“Why? What would you have done, Jayson? Coming to you then you going after them would have let them know what they were saying hurt me. Giving them the idea I didn’t trust you. They want us to fight. I refuse to give them that.”

Jayson studied Lana for a few moments as he contemplated her statement. He was happy she’d been honest with him about her feelings.

He let what she had said roll through his mind as he looked at it from her point of view. He had to admit to himself she had a solid point.

He would be dealing with Chompers on Monday morning and find out what Ashe and her crew have on him. If he didn’t like the answers, he’d be letting the rest of the team know that Chompers was no longer one of them.
