Chapter 9
CHAPTER NINE
JANIE
Shopping for my wedding dress was fun. There was a little boutique in town that specialized in formals and wedding attire. We went in and I saw my dress immediately. It was form fitting and all lace, off the shoulder with a slit up the middle of my thigh. I prayed they had it in my size and it would fit. I tried it on, and my mom cried. We found a pair of lace heels to match as well as a garter. I went over to the lingerie side to find something for that night. My mom had ordered an adorable pink dress for the baby and something for herself. We had flowers ordered and the lodge was going to be fixed up beautifully. I was so excited. His uncles had been instructed to not let in anyone that wasn’t part of the family. My best friend from school, Lori was going to be able to make it. I told her just to wear something pink. Owens friend, Jake was going to stand up for him. We had everything all set up. We were not taking a honeymoon right away because I couldn’t bear to be away from Kayla that long. We decided to wait until our first anniversary to go away together. We were having the rehearsal dinner the night before so now I was picking out a nice dress for that. I had found a pretty white dress with longer sleeves that flowed around my ankles. I also found a cute little half jacket to wear over it. I was looking in the mirror and had turned to show my mother when I felt something wet hit my back. I turned to see Mandy standing there with an empty wine glass looking smug.
“Now, you will have to find another wedding dress. That one is ruined.” Mandy said smugly. I noticed the manager saw the whole thing and had her phone in her hand. A couple of minutes later the sheriff walked in and escorted her out in cuffs. Before they got out the door, I decided to let her know it didn’t work.
“Actually, my wedding dress is already wrapped up and this was just for the rehearsal. My mother knows how to get wine out anyway so no it’s not ruined but I bet you will never be welcome in here again. Enjoy cooling your heels in a cell tonight.” I could not believe she openly made a scene like that. I was glad she did because that meant the local police would be watching her more.
“I can get it out honey, go change. I’ll pay for it and take it home.” My mom said gently. The owner came over and shook her head.
“You will do no such thing. She will have to pay for the dress when she pays to clean or replace the carpeting. I have another one in the same size you will take home with you.” The owner rang up the dress and threw in some coupons for lingerie. Nothing that woman did would ruin my mood. I was happy and I had everything I have ever really wanted.
My mom and I went to lunch and then headed back up the mountain. As we pulled up to the house, I saw Owen in the window with a bottle feeding our little princess.
“Now that is a sight to come home to. I bet you are glad you came back home sweetie.” My mom whispered as she watched her future son in law feeding her granddaughter.
“Yeah, I lost my way for a while, but I found it again. I’m right where I belong.” I leaned over kissed my mom’s cheek and went inside.
“Where is your dress baby?” he asked as I came in with just a small bag in my hand.
“Mom is taking it home because I’ll be getting ready there. No way you get to peek before the big day.” I kissed him on the cheek and sat down beside them on the couch. I was looking forward to bedtime. Laying my head down on his shoulder I fell asleep.
