Chapter Twelve
Kinley slumped onto the plush sofa; her eyes locked on the closed door. Frustration and disappointment battled within her, as tears rolled down her face.
“Shit,” she muttered, running a hand through her hair.
As her phone buzzed on the coffee table, Kinley hesitated before picking it up to see Addison’s name flashing on the screen. A small sigh escaped her lips before she answered the call.
“Hey,” she greeted wearily.
“What’s wrong?” Addison’s voice came through the receiver loud and clear.
Kinley shook her head in amazement. It seemed like Addison always knew when something was bothering her. It was almost like she had psychic abilities.
“How did you know?” Kinley asked, genuinely curious.
“Your voice. What happened?” Addison replied calmly.
Kinley took a deep breath, knowing there was no point in hiding anything from Addison.
“It’s over between me and Levi,” she confessed.
“You told him you wanted to have kids, didn’t you?”
“Yes, he was so angry,” Kinley said sadly.
“I don’t blame him for being angry. You told him you were fine with not having kids,” Addison snapped .
“I was, but I’d love to have his children.”
“Kinley, you agreed not to have children. You had to know how he’d react.”
“What if Cody didn’t want kids?”
“I love him. I want kids too, but if he had a good reason for not wanting them, I’d still want him. Once you fall for someone, you make sacrifices. At least we’d be together. When Vivian told Grayson she might not be able to have a baby, he told her he could live without kids, but he couldn’t live without her. I feel that way about Cody.”
“I know. I told Levi about that too and I made the stupid mistake of telling him that’s how I felt. I’m so torn about this. I think Levi knew it was coming because after the competition, and I talked with that little girl, he stared at me and I could see the wheels turning in his head, and I was right because he brought it up before he walked out.”
“I love Cody very much and if he had issues like Levi and wanted to just be together, without children, I wouldn’t be thinking how much I want kids. I’d make the sacrifice for him.”
“Would you really have done that?”
“You know, honestly, I think I would have been disappointed if he didn’t want to have kids, but there would have to be a damn good reason for it. People can be together, and never have a family. You know what Levi’s reasons are. He’s too scared.”
“He’s been through so much. He has his own demons that I don’t know if he’ll ever overcome.”
“And you just added more to them. Do you want him in your life, or do you want to marry someone else just for the sake of being able to have children? I’m not saying go out and rush into a marriage with someone else; I mean meet another man who you fall in love with and want to have kids with. Will you look back on your past and wonder if you’d have been happier if you had been with Levi? Because, face it, Kinley, you’re not going to love anyone the way you love him.”
“Sometimes I hate you.”
“No, you don’t. You could easily move on and find another man, fall in love, get married, have kids, but will you always wonder if things could have worked out differently with Levi?”
“You know what? You’re wrong. I do hate you,” Kinley replied.
“I love you too. I gotta go now; we’re heading to dinner.” She hung up the phone.
Kinley sighed as she placed her phone back on the table. Maybe Addison was right. Did she need children to make her happy? She was happy with Levi, but what happened if they did get married and her cravings for a child came up? She’d lose him. She knew that as well as she knew her own name.
Kinley decided to give it some serious thought. Because no matter what had just happened between them, she knew she would always love him.
****
Levi drove home, cursing under his breath the entire way. He should have known this would happen. As he had told Kinley earlier, he had been in this situation before .
“Fucking hell. She knew,” he muttered to himself.
He gripped the steering wheel tightly, but eventually had to loosen his grip when his hands started to ache. The pain momentarily distracted him from thinking about Kinley.
Once he arrived at his place, he parked and sat in his car for a moment, staring out the windshield. “I am so done with relationships. It just leads to pain and heartache, and I’ve had enough of that to last me a fucking lifetime.”
With a deep sigh, he finally got out of the truck and slammed the door a little harder than necessary, then made his way into the house. After taking off his hat, he headed to his bedroom to change into a comfortable T-shirt and sweatpants. Hopefully, he could relax for the rest of the evening.
As the week began, he walked into the barn to start his tasks of cleaning and maintaining the stalls. He knew some of the ranch hands were out repairing the fence, while others were working on various projects around the ranch. They may have wondered why he wanted to work in the barn, but he assured them he would take care of it on this particular day.
He knew they didn’t mind being outside in the warm sun, whereas he could barely keep his eyes open after a sleepless weekend. He considered riding the fence but decided against it, afraid that he might fall off his horse due to his exhaustion.
While working on one of the stalls, he heard Cody calling for him. Setting down his tools and taking off his gloves, Levi made his way out of the stall to see his boss approaching .
“Morning, Cody.”
“Good morning, Levi. Why are you doing this job today? I thought you’d want to be outside enjoying the sunshine.”
Levi shook his head with a tired grin. “I’m just too exhausted to saddle up and ride. Knowing my luck, I’d probably end up falling asleep and tumbling off my horse. At least in here, if I fall asleep, I’ll land on a pile of straw.”
“You’re having a tough time since you and Kinley split up.”
“I assume Addison filled you in?”
“Yeah, she mentioned that Kinley is struggling too.”
Levi shrugged. “I was honest with her. She wasn’t.”
Cody let out a sigh. “I get it. I can see where you’re coming from. Even Addison warned her that she would lose you if she changed her mind.” He chuckled. “Addison gave her a piece of her mind. She was pretty disappointed when Kinley told her about wanting to have kids someday.”
Levi crossed his arms over his chest. “I was willing to commit to her, just not with kids.”
“I know. I had hoped things would work out between the two of you, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be.”
“Guess not.”
“Alright, I better get going. Meeting Addison for lunch at noon, so just give me a call or text if you need anything.”
“Will do.” Levi went back to the stall. He hoped his work kept his mind off Kinley, but he knew he had another long night ahead of him. He sighed as he shook his head. It would be more than just one night.
A month passed and his heart still hurt after losing Kinley, but he couldn’t give her what she wanted. She was right; he should have been upfront about not wanting kids before they even went out on a date.
“Too late now. Hindsight is twenty-twenty,” he muttered as he headed for his horse’s stall. He needed to get out in the sunshine today, no matter how hot it was. June came in with a vengeance and if this was an indication of the summer weather, they were in for a scorcher.
Levi’s hand brushed against his horse’s mane as he led the animal from its stall. A peaceful silence enveloped the barn, until a figure caught Levi’s eye.
“Can I help you?” he asked the approaching man, but his heart plummeted when he recognized who it was. LeRoy Thomas, the man he despised more than anyone else in the world, was slowly making his way toward him. He was older, but Levi would recognize him anywhere.
“What are you doing out?” Levi couldn’t hide the anger in his voice.
“Good behavior,” LeRoy responded with a smug grin.
Levi scoffed. “You wouldn’t know good behavior if it bit you in the ass. Get the hell off this property.”
LeRoy continued to approach him, ignoring his demand. “Son—”
“Don’t!” Levi snapped, cutting him off. “Do not call me son.”
“But you are my son,” LeRoy said .
“Only biologically,” Levi retorted, his voice dripping with hatred. “You were never a father. Get the fuck away from me.”
He turned away from LeRoy and began walking toward the open doors of the barn but couldn’t resist looking back at him one more time.
“How did you even find me?”
“I happened to be watching a bull riding event on TV and all of a sudden, you were on the screen. It took me a while to find out where you were, but since you were with Cody Haines, and I found out where he was, it was easy finding you.”
“Why would they leave a… murderer out? You killed her, you son of a bitch.”
A twisted smirk formed on LeRoy’s face. “You seem to forget that my sentence was twenty-five to life with the possibility of parole.”
“I haven’t forgotten a fucking thing about you and what you did to me and my mother,” Levi spat.
“I drank—”
“That’s your excuse?” Levi seethed. “I should have killed you when I had the chance. Do you know how many nights I laid in bed, wanting to get up, go to your room, and do it?” His words hung heavy in the air as they stared at each other.
“Levi? Is there a problem here?” Cody asked as he entered the barn.
Levi watched LeRoy turn to look at Cody, then walked toward him with his hand out.
“Mr., Haines, I’m a big fan. I’m LeRoy Thomas, Levi’s father. ”
Levi saw Cody glance at him then back to LeRoy but didn’t shake his hand.
“And just what are you doing on my property, Mr. Thomas?”
“I came to see my son.”
Levi clenched his jaw. He, in no way, wanted to be associated with this piece of trash.
“I told him to leave,” he said.
“I’m going to have to second that. Get off my property and don’t come back or I’ll call the law.” Cody stared at LeRoy.
LeRoy nodded, then looked at Levi. “I’ll be seeing you… son .”
“Not if I can help it.” Levi replied as LeRoy walked out of the barn.
“Are you alright?” Cody asked him.
Levi inhaled, then huffed. “I will be.” He shook his head. “I hate that bastard.”
“I’m sure you do. I’m not too fond of him either. If he comes around again or bothers you, tell Sam.” Cody grinned. “I’m sure he’d love to run his ass out of town.”
Levi smirked. “Yeah, Sam hates trouble in his town. I’ll do that for sure. He told me he saw me on the jumbotron when he was watching the bull riding on TV, and then he said all he had to do was find out where you were since we were together.”
“Damn, Levi, I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault. You didn’t know you’d be on TV.”
“I guess. I never even considered it.”
“It would be the last thing I’d think of.” He clenched his jaw again. “I don’t want him anywhere near me. ”
“I can understand that.” Cody nodded.
“You know, it’s bad enough that I have to deal with losing Kinley, now he shows up.”
“I’m really sorry about you and Kinley.”
“I know. Did you need something?”
“No. I was on my way to the other barn when I heard you shouting.”
“Sorry.”
“No, don’t be. I would have done the same. Well, I’m going to the other barn. Are you going out to check the fence?”
“Yeah, I thought I would, but he ruined it.”
“Don’t let him do that. You know being on horseback makes just about anything better.” Cody smiled.
“Yeah, you’re right. I’ll see you later.” Levi turned away then looked back. “Thank you.”
“Anytime.” Cody walked out of the barn.
Levi got himself in the saddle, kneed the horse, and rode from the barn. He hoped the fresh air removed that man from his head.
****
Kinley stood behind the counter, her hands busy filling prescriptions as she hummed along to the soft music playing in the background. The gentle chime of the door alerted her to a customer’s arrival, and she looked up to see a man enter. She didn’t recognize him, but she smiled warmly nonetheless.
“Hi, someone will be right with you,” she said cheerfully.
“I’m looking for Kinley Wilson,” the man stated .
Her smile faltered at his words. “That’s me.”
He smirked, and a sense of unease crept over Kinley.
“Of course, you are. Nothing but the best for my boy,” he remarked smugly.
“Your boy?” Kinley’s heart skipped a beat.
“Levi,” he clarified.
She gasped in disbelief. “Get out.”
“Now, is that anyway to talk to your future father-in-law?” he taunted.
“You would never be that. I’m not marrying Levi.”
“Not marrying him?”
“Get out,” she repeated firmly.
Just then, Addison entered the pharmacy from getting lunch and gave Kinley a friendly smile. But when she noticed the man standing before them, and the look on Kinley’s face, her expression turned dark.
“Kinley?” she questioned.
“Addison, this is Levi’s so-called father,” Kinley introduced with disgust evident in her voice.
Addison’s eyes widened in shock. “Get out of my pharmacy. Now, or I’ll call the sheriff.”
“I haven’t done anything for you to call the law,” the man retorted coolly.
“Your mere existence is enough.” Addison stepped behind the counter and placed down the bag containing their lunches as she glared at the unwelcome visitor. “Get the fuck out of my pharmacy. Now.”
Kinley watched as the man’s gaze shifted from Addison to her before finally leaving, and she released a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.
“Are you alright?” Addison asked with concern.
“No. He’s scary,” Kinley admitted, her hands still trembling slightly.
“Yes, he is. How did he know who you were and that you worked here?”
“I have no clue. I need to call Levi. Do you mind?”
“Not at all. No one is in here right now. Go call him.” Addison reassured her.
Kinley nodded gratefully and headed toward the back office to make the phone call. As she dialed Levi’s number, she couldn’t help but think about how terrifying the encounter had been. Levi didn’t answer, so she sent him a text to call her, then headed back to the counter.
“I’ve never heard you say ‘fuck’ before,” Kinley said as she returned to the front of the pharmacy.
Addison grinned sheepishly. “That’s how mad I was.”
Kinley couldn’t help but smile at her rare display of profanity. Despite the unsettling encounter, she felt grateful to have someone like Addison by her side.
“Did you talk to Levi that quick?”
“No, he didn’t answer. I sent him a text telling him to call me. I’m not sure he will since we’re not seeing each other anymore.”
Her phone buzzed and she saw Levi had sent a text.
I’m out checking the fence. What is it?
Your father came in the pharmacy looking for me .
Right after she sent it, her phone buzzed to see he was calling her.
“Levi—”
“What the fuck did he want?”
“You don’t sound surprised that he was here.”
“He came to the ranch earlier. What did he say to you?”
She could hear the anger in his voice.
“Nothing really. He just said he was looking for me and when I told him to get out, he said something about talking to my future father-in-law that way. I even told him that I wasn’t going to marry you.”
“I’ll take care of it.”
“Levi, don’t do something you’ll regret.”
“I would never regret it.” He hung up.
Kinley set her phone down. She hoped he didn’t do something that would get him in trouble.
“What did he say?”
“He said his father had been to the ranch, then after I told him what that man said to me, he said he’d take care of it.”
“Oh, my. I hope he keeps a cool head.”
“I told him not to do anything he’d regret, and he said he’d never regret it, then hung up.” Kinley looked at Addison. “I’m so scared he’s going to do something he shouldn’t.”
“I’m calling Cody. I’ll be right back.” Addison walked to the office.
Kinley’s fingers trembled as she attempted to focus on filling the prescriptions. Her panic was evident, causing her to struggle with counting out the pills. With a deep breath, she set the bottle down and sank onto the bench behind the counter, desperately trying to calm herself before making a potentially dangerous mistake.
Addison emerged from the office and took a seat beside her, concern etched into her features.
“Cody said Levi took his horse out to check the fence.”
“Yes, but this just happened. Levi could be on his way back to the barn, then go look for his... that man.”
“I’ll send Cody a text to keep an eye on him. None of us want Levi to get into trouble.”
“Please do that.”
“Doing it now.”
Kinley stood and made her way to the counter, determined to finish the remaining prescriptions. She couldn’t help but worry about Levi’s state of mind and prayed that he would calm down before seeking out his father’s whereabouts.
****
Levi pulled his truck into the parking lot, then walked into the sheriff’s department inside the courthouse building. He scanned the glass display case for directions and headed toward it, stopping at a door with frosted glass that read “Sam Garrett, Sheriff”, then he entered. He rolled his eyes as he saw Betty Lou Harper behind the counter and cleared his throat to get her attention. She looked up, gave him a glare, and then broke into a grin.
“Levi Thomas! How are you doing, honey?”
“I’m fine, Betty Lou. How about you?”
He couldn’t help but roll his eyes again as she began to give him a thorough update on her life.
“Is Sam available?”
“Yeah, let me tell him.”
Betty Lou pressed a button on the intercom but quickly released it before speaking. When there was no response from Sam, she tried again and this time yelled out his name. Levi watched as Sam entered the foyer, briefly acknowledged him, and then turned to address Betty Lou.
“Betty Lou, you have to keep the button pressed while you talk,” Sam said with a shake of his head.
“You know I hate that thing, Sam Garrett. Levi is here to see you.”
Sam let out a sigh. “Come with me, Levi.”
Levi nodded at Betty Lou and followed Sam into his office. Sam gestured for him to take a seat across from his desk.
“What’s going on, Levi?”
Levi took a deep breath and proceeded to share everything that had happened in his past leading up to his father’s recent appearance in town.
“I hate him, Sam. I don’t want him anywhere near me. I need a restraining order against him.”
“I understand your feelings. Unfortunately, obtaining an Order of Protection requires going to court.”
“Court? Damn.”
“Yes. In Montana, an Order of Protection is what you need to keep someone who has hurt or threatened you from making any further contact. It can be issued by a judge and is the best course of action in your situation. The good news is, there’s no time limit for when you can apply for an Order of Protection, so even though this happened a long time ago, you can still get one.”
“How do I go about getting it?”
“You first apply for a Petition for a Temporary Order of Protection. The judge reviews your petition and then decides whether to grant you one based on the information you put in the form. If the judge does grant it, it will be in effect as soon as the Respondent is served and will last until the court holds a hearing. The court should schedule a hearing within twenty days after granting your temporary petition. One of my deputies will serve the person you file against with a copy of your Petition and a notice of a hearing. Then at the hearing, both sides will share their side of the story. After the Petitioner, Respondent, and any witnesses have testified, the judge will decide whether to change the Temporary Order of Protection into a Permanent Order of Protection, and how long it will last. The judge will decide how long the Order of Protection lasts based on the evidence presented in the hearing.”
“Okay. I’ll think about it.”
“It’s going to be the only way to keep him away from you. Even if Cody puts no trespassing signs on his property, it doesn’t keep you safe off the ranch.”
Levi stood and put his hand out to Sam. “I appreciate your help.”
Sam grinned. “It’s what I’m here for.”
“I’ll give it some thought.”
Levi smiled, walked from the office, and nodded at Betty Lou since she was on the phone. He hoped he made it past her because he knew how she was. She would be trying to get information from him of why he was here. Everyone in town loved her, but they all knew what a gossip she was.
He sighed as he entered the hallway, strode out of the building then to his truck. As he climbed into it, he wondered where LeRoy was staying. Not that he would visit him, but just to keep an eye out for him in town. But with all the tourists in town, it would be difficult. There was way too much going on in his life right to have to deal with that bastard. He missed Kinley terribly and he was a little worried that LeRoy knew who she was.
****
Kinley made her way out of the pharmacy and headed toward her car, which was parked across the street. She quickly scanned her surroundings, worried that LeRoy Thomas might be watching her. Despite her fear, she knew she had to stay vigilant for his presence as she drove home. How did he know who she was and where she worked? And more importantly, how did he find Levi? These thoughts raced through her mind but she couldn’t ask Levi about it. A tear rolled down her cheek as she thought of him. She missed him deeply and wanted him back in her life, but deep down, she knew it was unlikely to happen. He would always be afraid that she would change her mind again.
After checking traffic, Kinley pulled onto Main Street and headed home. It was a beautiful day and she was grateful that it was Saturday because it meant she could relax today and do nothing tomorrow. As she pulled into her driveway, she glanced around for any vehicles following her but didn’t see anyone. Taking a deep breath, she exited the car and hurried inside her home. Once inside, she locked the door behind her and leaned against it, trying not to panic at the thought of LeRoy following her.
She definitely didn’t trust him. Her phone vibrated in her pocket and she jumped in surprise. Taking it out, she saw that Addison was calling.
“Hey,” Kinley answered.
“Did you make it home okay?” Addison asked.
“Yes. But I have to admit, I’m terrified of that man.”
“I know, and you have every right to be.”
“I can’t believe he found out about me and Levi.”
“Cody told me what happened,” Addison said and proceeded to tell Kinley how LeRoy had tracked them down.
“That makes sense for finding Levi, but how did he even know I existed?”
“Chances are he has connections or hired a private investigator to find you. We were all sitting together in the arena with empty seats on either side, so it was pretty obvious we were together.”
“That’s horrifying.”
“I agree. Do you want to stay with us for a while?”
“No, I’ll be fine. I’ll keep an eye out for him. No one followed me home, so I should be okay.”
“But with all the tourists in town, he could easily blend in,” Addison pointed out .
“That’s true, but I’ll manage. Maybe he’ll leave since Levi saw him.”
“I hope so. It’s just bizarre that he came here. He had to know that Levi would never want to see him again.”
“Maybe he’s trying to make amends.” Kinley sighed. “Not that Levi would ever forgive him and I don’t blame him. That man not only beat him and his mother, he killed his mother. How can anyone forgive that?”
“I wouldn’t either.”
“I’m going to grab something to eat, then relax. Talk to you tomorrow. Love you.”
“Love you too.” Addison hung up.
Kinley went upstairs to change into comfortable clothes before finding something to eat. Later that night, she woke up to the sound of her car alarm blaring outside. She was scared to go check it out but when her cellphone buzzed, she slowly made her way to it and sighed when she saw it was Celine calling on her phone.
She walked down the stairs, picked up her keys, and pressed the button to turn the alarm off.
“Hi, Celine. I’m okay.”
“Did you go out to your car and forget to unlock it?”
“No. It went off by itself.”
“Kinley, car alarms do not go off by themselves. Someone had to be close to it.”
She knew Celine was right but she was doing her best to convince herself something else made it go off.
“I know, but I’m not going out to check. I shut it off from inside. I’m sorry if it woke you up.” Kinley walked back upstairs and entered her bedroom.
“It’s fine. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, well, later today,” Celine said with a laugh.
“Okay. Come over for coffee later. I have some things I want to tell you.”
“I’ll be there around nine. Get some rest. Night.”
“Night.” Kinley set her phone down, sat on the edge of the bed and knew she wouldn’t sleep anymore tonight. She looked at the clock to see it was four in the morning.
“Damn, I don’t want to be up this early.”
After climbing under the blankets, she stared at the ceiling. Her eyes grew heavy and she couldn’t keep them open. She’d close her eyes for just a minute…
When she woke up, the sun was shining through her curtains. She got out of bed, stretched, went into the bathroom, then changed her clothes and walked downstairs. She desperately needed coffee.
Glancing at the clock, she saw it eight and Celine would be here soon. After getting her coffee, she walked to the living room and peered out at her car. It didn’t look like anything was wrong but something or someone made the alarm go off.
At nine, she opened the door to let Celine enter.
“Did you get some sleep?”
“I actually did fall back asleep even though I was scared.”
“Scared? About what?”
“Let me get you a cup of coffee and I’ll tell you. ”
Once they each had their coffee, they sat on the sofa and Kinley explained about Levi’s father.
“Wait. Levi’s mother was killed by his father?”
“Yes, I know I don’t have to tell you not to repeat it.”
“Of course not. Why is he here? I’m sure Levi doesn’t want to see him.”
Kinley sighed. “I thought maybe he was trying to make amends, but he should know Levi would never forgive him for that.”
“I sure as hell wouldn’t. You can stay with me if you’re scared. I have a spare bedroom.” Celine bent forward and pet Tootsie.
“I’ll be alright. I think I’ll get one of those doorbell cameras.”
“I have one. It can cover up to thirty feet. Abbie had it there and I just kept it.”
“I’ll look into it. It sure can’t hurt.”
“Especially with that man around. It will record all motion detected.”
“Great. I wonder how quickly I could get one?”
“Walton’s carries them. We could go there later if you want.”
“I’d love that. Why don’t you go get ready then come back and we’ll go shopping?” Kinley smiled.
“That sounds good.” Celine stood, took her cup to the kitchen then returned. “I’ll be back in a few.”
“Okay, I’ll be ready.”
As they entered the store, Kinley and Celine made their way to the electronics department. Kinley chatted with a sales associate as he explained the features of the device she was interested in. He told her she could go to the register to pay for it. They headed toward the exit when Kinley noticed Levi. She froze in her tracks; she had missed him so much. He turned away from whatever he was looking at and caught sight of her. They stood there, gazing at each other for a moment before he surprised her by approaching her.
“Kinley,” he said, nodding at her, then turning to greet Celine. “Hi, Celine.”
“Hi, Levi. I, um, need to look for… something,” Celine responded quickly before hurrying off.
Kinley shook her head with a small smile. “She’s not actually looking for anything,” she admitted.
Levi smirked. “I kind of figured that.”
He noticed the package she held and asked, “A doorbell camera?”
“My car alarm went off at four o’clock this morning,” she explained.
“Did you see anyone?” Levi’s jaw tensed.
“No, but it scared me. Now I’ll be able to check if it happens again.” She raised the camera for him to see.
“You let me know if you see him around your place.”
“I will.”
“I don’t trust that son of a bitch. Don’t hesitate to call me,” he told her firmly.
“Do you know if he’s still around?”
“I have no idea. I haven’t heard from him.”
“Maybe he left,” Kinley suggested hopefully.
“I doubt it. He’s trying to make my life miserable. Hell, he already did that,” Levi replied bitterly.
“I hope he leaves.”
Levi met her gaze and she blinked back tears before he looked away.
“I should go. Seriously, Kinley, tell me if he bothers you again. I talked to Sam about it. I’d have to go to court, but I’ll do whatever it takes to keep him out of our lives.” He touched the brim of his hat. “Have a good day.”
Tears streamed down Kinley’s cheeks as she watched him walk away. She jumped when Celine put her arm around her.
“You two need to work this out,” Celine said gently.
“He’d never trust me again. I ruined everything.” Kinley cried.
“Come on, let’s go home and figure out how to install this for you.”
“Thank you.”
They made their way to the registers, paid for their items, and left the store. As they drove back home, Kinley couldn’t help but think about Levi and what could have been.
