Rule 46 - Swayze
Ipaced the waiting room, unsure of what the fuck to do. I didn"t want to leave Domino, but they also refused to let me see her. Fabian was losing his shit over at the water park, and Koi and the others were handling a fire that Marisol had started under our cabin.
The cabin was most likely gone.
Koi called an hour later. I let him know they put her in a room and were keeping her overnight. I"d just stepped inside to sit with her and had to go to the hallway.
"The fire"s out, and they are sending everyone home or to hotels for the night. How is she?"
"She"s fine. Just resting." I glanced back at the door. While she didn"t even know I was there, I needed to be beside her. I wanted to hold her hand until she woke up.
"Good, good. Uh, so, there"s a situation here." I could hear the awkwardness in his voice. He didn"t want to ask, but he needed my help.Fabian had told him about the body he found.
"I heard. I'll come when I can."
Suddenly, the hallway doors were thrust open and a man stormed down the hall, barreling toward me.
"Where is my niece?" he bellowed at the nurse following him.
"She"s in here, sir."
Carlos Risky, the bastard who"d tried to touch her when she was a kid, stood in front of me, glaring at me.
"Family only. You need to leave."
I was speechless for a moment. I dropped my phone and slammed into the bastard, shoving him against the wall. The nurse screamed and called for security.
I brought my hands to his neck and squeezed. I wanted him dead. How dare he come here, acting like a caring adult. He didn"t care about her, not in the way he was supposed to. He was a monster.
Large hands yanked me from him just as he was turning purple. He inhaled deeply and then pointed to me. "Get him out of here."
Security reached for their handcuffs but I raised my hands. I bent down, snatching my phone back up. "I"m leaving." I started away but then turned and pointed to Carlos. "If you touch her, so fucking help you." I swallowed the rest of the words I wanted to say. I didn"t need witnesses to my death threats when there already was a murderer on the loose.
He laughed and sauntered into her room. My body shook with rage as I called Koi back. I chain-smoked until he got there and we rode in silence, heading straight to the park.
Camp Frisky was silent other than sizzling. Everyone had been evacuated and the fire put out.
When we got to the Lazy Lane River, everyone from the ziplining party was there, minus the three that were now dead, and Domino. Oh… and…
"Chitra." Fabian said.
We stood, staring into the cave. It was completely dark inside it.
"How do you know she"s in there?" Beth asked. Fabian rubbed his face.
"I saw her. I went in. This stupid thing told me where to look!" He pulled a Jason mask out of his hoodie pocket. He flipped it around, revealing the inside.
Check Cave
"I was already on edge, as this was the fourth day and Domino almost drowned. When I found this in my office after the park closed, I came over, got in, and flashed my phone and?—"
"Are you sure it"s Chitra?" Marisol stepped forward.
"Who else would it be?" Fabian roared at his sister. "Short dark hair, brown skin, sweater in the dead of summer? Tell me, who does that sound like, Marisol?"
Mattias stepped between them. "Okay, so let"s get her out, and go from there."
"Wait, you got a mask?" Mitchell piped up. "I got one too."
"Me too," Beth said.
"Same," Andrew said.
"Did we all get one?" Grace asked, looking directly at Koi and me. I flipped her off.
"Don"t even start that shit again. It wasn"t us," I snarled.
"Well, it sure as hell sounded like you," she shot back.
"Grace, go home, you"re fired," Mattias snapped. "Turning on one of your own? Get out."
"You can"t fire me." She scoffed. "You don"t think I"ll roll so fast? I"ll tell on all of you for Ruth, Blane, and Chitra. You"re stuck with me." She crossed her arms smugly.
"She"s right," Marisol added. "Let"s just get her out so we can dispose of it and move on. The park opens in a few hours."
"The park isn"t opening," Mattias revealed. Everyone grew still. What? He cleared his throat. "I spoke to the police. The fire was the last straw. Either we volunteer to close or they do it for us first thing in the morning. I chose to do it so we can write the story."
"And what is that exactly?" Marisol stepped forward, her fists clenched and ready to fight her twin brother.Did he know?
"The fire broke out due to old wiring. We already have people in here updating a few rides, but the fire made us realize it was time to shut down and revamp everything."
It wasn"t all that bad of a story. I"d believe it if I hadn't seen the text message.
"Fine, let"s just fucking do this," she muttered and began stripping down. She motioned for everyone else to follow, and begrudgingly, we did and dived into the river. Beth, the tallest woman, held her phone up as a flashlight so we could search for the body. Fabian wasn"t entirely correct when he said she"d been chained to the bottom. She was just weighed down. Andrew went under and cut her restraints and she floated right up. We carried her out and set her on the ground.
"Now what?"
"There"s a hole about a mile that way where we"re about to lay some cement tomorrow for a new ride. Put her there, the crew will do the work for us." Marisol waved Chitra"s disposal off as if she were nothing. Just like with Ruth and Blane. What the fuck was wrong with her?
We did as ordered and she was buried underneath the dirt just as the sun was coming up. Mattias was going to tell her family she got lost in the run for the fire and would file a missing person"s report for her.
Koi and I returned to the hospital, where we heard yelling coming from Domino"s room.
"Get out! Get out get out get out get out get out!" she screamed.
We ran down the hall to catch Carlos standing with his hands up.
I stormed over to him. "I suggest you fucking listen."
His eyes flicked from me to Koi who"d joined me, and he ducked under my arm and fled the room. I hurried to Domino.
"Are you okay?" I brushed her hair back. She shook her head, her beautiful brown eyes growing wide with fear.
"Get out. You tried to kill me. You"re psycho. Both of you." She flinched away as I tried to touch her. She grasped the remote control and pushed a button, alerting a nurse. "Get the fuck away from me."
My mouth parted as I stepped back. "Domino, what are you talking about? We didn"t do anything."
"I know it was you. I saw your masks. You"re the killers. You"re?—"
"The villains?" Koi finished.
Her face paled. "Fuck you for making me think you liked me. We're through. I hate you. I hate you both!"
A nurse came in and forced us to leave.
We stood in front of the building, taking everything in while we smoked.
"I can"t believe she thinks we"re trying to kill her." I shook my head. "And that she broke up with us."
"After all we did to save her." Koi sighed. "I don"t know what to do. Our cabin burned down now. And they aren"t going to let us leave."
I considered our options. There weren"t many. There was too much blood on our hands. I finished my cigarette and flicked it onto the ground.
"Grace needs to go next," I announced. "She said so herself, she"ll roll over on all of us. Or Marisol, since she lit the fire. I have a feeling Grace helped."
Koi looked at me. Neither of us wanted to be the one to kill Dennis"s little sister. Their family had been through enough. But if it was Grace or Domino, we"d already made the choice.
Koi nodded, stubbing out his cigarette.
"Fine. Let's do Grace first, but can we at least return the body to the family this time?"
Dennis"s parents deserved that much. We started back to Koi"s car, and as we pulled out and onto the road, my hurt over Domino"s words turned to anger.
She wanted a villain? She"d get two.
