Chapter Twenty-Three
Trick
W e've got a good view of Boyd and, thankfully, the back of Jensen's head. Boyd has the window open which also means that we've got good audio too, he's so far gone that he hasn't noticed us here. Not that we're being overly obvious but if he really checked he would be able to see the camera pointed in his direction.
Jensen is doing a good job, as he always does, and has gotten a lot of information out of him by either insulting him or playing up to his ego. It's a fine line to walk, and Jensen is walking it perfectly. I have to admit that I hate it every time Boyd strikes Jensen, and even more so because he's also been waving around a knife for the majority of this interaction. Although he has yet to use it, I'm starting to get worried that Jensen is going to push him too far, and he's going to.
Especially since he's said several times that he's going to have to kill Jensen, he is so obviously high, that I have no doubt that he probably will do what he's been threatening, and that the only reason that he hasn't yet is because Jensen keeps distracting him.
Movement near the door catches my attention and I get a quick glimpse of Rafe before he shuts the door more leaving only a tiny gap, not that the gap was that big in the first place. If he's there then it means that he's cleared the rest of the house and dealt with any issues that have come up.
We only need one more piece of information in order to put the final nail in the coffin of this operation.
As he's been doing this, Jensen's voice comes out a lot deeper than it actually is, as he puts inflections on different points in the sentence and pretty much makes his voice unrecognizable.
We don't have the equipment to be able to do it digitally, so we have to do it ourselves without making whoever we're speaking to suspicious. If Boyd was sober, he'd know immediately that Jensen was changing his voice and question why, which would most likely lead to him realizing he's being filmed.
But he's not, so he hasn't even noticed.
"Maybe I could get in on it?" Jensen suggests, "I mean, you're working for Drake, right?"
Jensen manages to slip the name of Luc's dad into the conversation, which means depending on how Boyd answers, we could get verbal confirmation of whether he's involved or not. It's damn clever and quick thinking on Jensen's part.
Boyd frowns and shakes his head, looking confused, as he replies, "No, Gareth Brentwood."
I grin, that was so much easier than it usually is; Boyd doesn't even realize that he's just told Jensen, who has been supplying him the drugs, and is behind this operation.
All of the fear in Jensen's body immediately melts away, his tension leaving him as his shoulders straighten and I hear him chuckle. We don't rush in there as soon as Boyd gives us the information we need. Jensen's got this handled, and this is the bit he likes the most. I do stop filming though, we don't need any more information than that, we have more than enough evidence to give to the police. Rafe will have filmed the crates of drugs and their contents, so there's absolutely no doubt about what's in them, and we'll send that video to the cops as well.
We all watch as Jensen easily escapes his ties, shocking Boyd, who clearly still has some presence of mind about him because he starts slashing with the blade he has in his hand. Jensen dodges every swing and then practically dances around Boyd, jabbing him here and there and avoiding every single hit that Boyd tries to land.
I roll my eyes as we pull open the sliding back doors and step inside, "Jensen, stop playing."
Jensen chuckles and then headbutts Boyd, knocking him out cold, "You know I owed him more than that."
"Yes, but we don't have time for that, and we let you play for a little bit," Cash points.
Jensen sighs dramatically, but he's grinning and bouncing on his toes; he's wandering around the room as he listens to us talk, and clearly, there's a lot of energy still coursing through him.
"He's right, dude; we don't know if anyone else is about to turn up," Luc adds.
He stops moving and replies, "Fine. Did you get all the information that you needed?"
I nod, "Yeah, we got everything. Rafe, did you film the crates and the contents."
Rafe nods in confirmation, and then signs, "Yeah, and the house is cleared there's no one else in here."
I nod, "Good, let's put Boyd in the van with the others so he can't cause anymore trouble."
Jensen grabs Boyd by the arms and pulls him through the house and out of the front door, "You guys might want to stand ready in case the fuckers we put in there are awake."
"Good point," I admit, and we all spread out as Cash unlocks the van.
"Oh wait," Jensen suddenly says, and Cash quickly locks the van again.
We all look at Jensen curiously until he pulls out a pen, a piece of paper, and a fucking stapler.
"Really?" Riot asks, shaking his head but smirking too.
Jensen ignores him as he writes something on the paper and staples it to Boyd's forehead; Boyd doesn't even flinch, which just proves how out of it he is. Jensen then steps back, pulling out his phone and taking a picture before pressing some more buttons on his phone.
"You just sent that to Billy, didn't you?" Rafe asks, catching on quicker than the rest of us.
Jensen smirks, "I did, but I also made a point to tell him that he's a minor and he'll get clean in juvie, which is something that I know they're all worrying about."
I raise my eyebrows, "As always you have found a way to be chaotically good but also not at the same time."
Jensen just smirks and looks at Cash, "You can open it now."
Cash nods and the van unlocks. We pull the doors open cautiously, but the others are still out cold, which means that we can just throw Boyd in the van with the rest of them once the door is shut behind them and they're all secured, I turn to the guys.
"Rafe, send Cash your video so he can send it all to the cops anonymously," I order and Rafe nods, tapping on his phone.
"I know we need to leave the evidence there, but it's really not sitting right with me, I mean there's a good chance that someone in the local force is involved. Think about it, they've been getting away with this for a while," Luc voices something that had crossed my mind. "There's a lot of drugs in that house that could be sent straight back out if the wrong cop gets wind of it."
"If we get rid of it, then there's a small chance that they could get away with it, even with the other evidence that we have. If we leave it and it's dealt with properly then they will be going down for it and the drugs will be out of our town."
"So, I can't blow them up?" Jensen asks, deadly serious.
"What? No!" I exclaim incredulously. "How is that the first thing that you went to when talking about destroying the drugs?"
Jensen shrugs but doesn't answer me instead he says, "I think I can blow it up."
"I don't think you should," I reply, exasperated and yet amused that this is a conversation that we're having.
Jensen's expression becomes serious as he replies, "Come on, you know as well as I do that it's just going to end up back on the streets. If we blow it up, then there's a chance that Gareth won't bother setting up here again since we've already proven that we'll blow shit up."
"He makes a good point," Riot agrees, his lips fighting a smile.
I sigh, "He does not, don't encourage him."
"I'm doing it." Jensen announces with a huge grin on his face.
I throw my hands up in the air, "Where are you even going to find the explosives?"
Jensen's smile get's impossibly wider, "I don't need to use explosives to blow it up, the place has gas and I turned it on when we were in the kitchen." He pulls a disposable lighter out of his pocket, "It just needs a light."
"For fuck sake," I groan.
It's too late though because Jensen takes off running back to the house, and in particular, the kitchen.
"Shit, we need to move the van further away." Riot suddenly exclaims.
Cash throws him the keys, and Riot jumps in, moving the van right down to the edge of the driveway and out of the blast zone; at least, I fucking hope it is, as we all follow the van. I watch nervously for Jensen, and after what seems like far too long, he comes racing around the corner. He's not nearly far enough away from the house as the explosion rocks it, propelling him forward as it knocks us to the ground.
I have a moment of panic that he's hurt before he hops up, laughing manically as he reaches us.
"You fucking psycho," I say bluntly, affection warming my voice.
"We need to get to the cars now," Cash warns us.
We move at a quick run, getting to the cars far quicker than we left them since we can move at a faster pace, jumping in I tell Cash to call me from the other car just in case we end up getting followed. The drive away is fairly tense but when we clear the area with no incident I relax.
"Everyone good?" I ask, even though I can see them driving behind me.
"Yeah, we're good." Riot replies.
Cash comes over the speakers next, "I've sent all the evidence that we have to our contact at the station and the warning about the explosion."
"Great, that's all we can do," I reply.
"A job well done and in record time," Luc says with a smile.
"Can we get a pizza?" Jensen asks.
