CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

-:- JIG -:-

It’s been a month since Kenzie shot Amelia and I’m still pissed about the whole prank thing. I’m not mad at Kenzie, Amelia, or even Star. I’m mad that I didn’t see what they were up to. Talk about being blindsided, but that stunt with Star was an absolute work of genius, I have to admit. How I could miss the fact that Amelia was off down the street like a jackrabbit, I don’t know. I suppose your brain sees what it expects to see at times, and firing one of Meat’s starting pistols was another stroke of genius. I’ll get my own back, I just need to bide my time. As they say, revenge is a dish best served cold.

Kenzie has taken to her trike better than I ever thought possible. She sailed through her license as though born to it. We have a ride most weekends for a picnic or a walk somewhere. BigDog sits by the door every Saturday morning now, waiting to go. Kenzie checks the weather app on her phone every day before she leaves the house, to see if she should take the Jeep or the trike. It caused quite a stir when she turned up on it at the vet’s practice for the first time. Veterinarians, staff and customers all rushed out to see it, and she spent her break time giving rides to anyone that wanted one.

She absolutely loves her new job as the receptionist at the vets’ office, too. She has fit in there so well and made one hell of an impact on how things are done. She has had so many ideas to improve things, from the décor in the reception to how the vets receive their patients. She bought a selection of pet photographs from the internet and had them put in delicate frames. Then on her lunch break, took down a bunch of posters of animal meds, and put up the photographs. It was two days before anyone noticed, and only then because customers said how much more relaxing the reception area was. She comes home buzzing with excitement every day and it’s great to see.

We eat at the clubhouse on a regular basis, partly because it’s easier and partly because her cooking still leaves a lot to be desired. I don’t think it’s as bad as she thinks it is, but there have been some disasters. She put a stew on one day and forgot to put half the ingredients in. I found them in the fridge when I went to get a bottle of water to have with our food.

She burned the bottom out of one of the pans when she forgot to turn the heat down on a homemade soup she left boiling. The recipe said simmer for two hours, however that didn’t compute with Kenzie at the time, so it was left until it not only boiled dry but melted through the aluminum pan.

I put a pizza in the oven one evening and deliberately left it to burn to make her feel better, but that backfired when Grease asked me how that went and she overheard him. Boy, did I get some shit for that. Although we had a great time making up later, when she thought about how sweet I’d been to try to make her feel better.

Mav has become a regular visitor to the cabin since our little spat. We’ve always got on well, but I think having Kenzie as a person of interest, so to speak, has given us something more in common. He’s asked Kenzie if he can try her trike, but she won’t let him anywhere near it. Says his fat arse will ruin the stitching on her seat. She is talking to Star far too much!

Kenzie and Winter have become damn near joined at the hip. If she’s not with me, Kenzie’s with Winter. They’re always shooting, firing, training, fighting or throwing something at the range. She turns into an Amazon warrior when it comes to weapons. She wants to know how to use everything. Her archery skills are superb. She goes over to Meat and Star’s place early Sunday mornings before training and throws those damn cleavers of his.

When we have our own place built in the compound, she wants gun cabinets and an armory like Meat and Star’s. She wants ours built so we can have a shooting range, too, even though there is one in the compound that she uses regularly. I’m okay with the armory and cabinets, even crossbows and swords on the wall, but I think a personal shooting range is a step too far for me.

We both talked of having a big family, too. I think we’ll be needing a big yard for kid's stuff like swings, slides, climbing frames and dens.

BigDog might need a companion later. You never know. I can see us having quite a menagerie by the time we get settled in. If there are daughters, they’ll want ponies, sure as hell.

The wedding is drawing closer, though we haven’t set a date yet, we’re both ready to do the deed and make it all legal. I’m not supposed to know that Axel will be conducting the service, but I overheard a snippet of conversation one day. Much of what’s happening on the day is so far being kept hushed up. I have a surprise up my sleeve for the day, too.

I’m ready for a nice, quiet evening, relaxing on the couch and watching a movie.

-:- MACKENZIE -:-

I am in seventh heaven right now, on cloud nine, over the moon, as happy as a pig in shit and like a dog with two dicks! Meeting Jig has turned my life around and upside down. I love him and I love my life.

I’ve had one hiccup, and that was when that jerkoff went to court where the judge, whose IQ was just below room temperature, got totally fooled by the defense attorney and let the asshole off with a warning. If he crosses me again, he won’t make it to court next time. I’ll just let BigDog have a snack.

Talking of BigDog, I’ve been thinking he might need a mate of his own. Someone to keep him company. I’ve been looking at local rescue websites to see if anything suitable comes up. There aren’t going to be any kids for him to play with until after we get a house built in the compound. Jig and I spoke about kids and we both want a big family, but I don’t want to start off in the cabin. It’s lovely but with me, Jig and BigDog in there, it already feels tight.

I love my job at the vet clinic. I’ve had so many ideas that Jasmine and Jason have loved, they let me implement most of them without hesitation. Amy has gone off to have her babies, but we promised to keep in touch. I like her a lot, she’s got a wicked sense of humor. Jig is so supportive too, he listens to me rave about my day and just sits there, taking it all onboard. I know he listens to me because he’ll ask a question or point something out, and I love that about him.

I love both my modes of transport so much, it’s heartbreaking having to decide which one to leave behind each morning. They are each awesome in their own ways. Taking the rides on the weekend has been great, but there is still the matter of Jig’s hog. I know I’m going to have to bite the bullet at some point and ride passenger, or bitch, as they call it. The problem there is, leaving BigDog behind. He goes everywhere with us, but that can’t happen on the hog and I don’t see Jig having a sidecar for him.

Wedding plans are coming along nicely. I have my wedding ceremony attire all sorted, and my reception clothes are all ready, too. Transport is arranged and the venue is booked with set-up for the day included. I haven’t told Jig the date yet, but he’ll have a few days to prepare. I’m past ready to have it all over with now, although I’m looking forward to it.

Mav has gotten over the telling off I gave him and is coming round to visit often; he also spends time with us when we’re at the clubhouse. I don’t know where he came up with his macho bullshit that day, but I wasn’t having any of it, and told him in no uncertain terms to can it. He’s been good to have around, as he reminds me of family and the good times we had growing up.

It's a beautiful evening and I’m feeling good, so I think tonight could be Jig’s lucky night.

“Hey, Handsome. Get your ass out front and take me for a ride while I’m in the mood.” Walking out the front door, I grab my helmet and head to Jig’s hog.
