3. While the Cat’s Away
3. While the Cat's Away
We both knew the real reason why I was tagging along. If a girl was manning the counter, Adam would never be able to tell her the order for his parents" anniversary cake.
Although it was hard to resist, we all tried not to tease Adam about being shy around girls. Not only did it make his awkwardness worse, it was too cruel. He was trying so hard to be better about it because he didn"t want to make a fool of himself whenever he finally met his mate. The fact that he spoke to the luna without stuttering or tripping over his own feet showed he was improving, and we all wanted to support him.
"How many years have they been mated now?"
My eyes scanned over the cute interior with its pastel pink walls and wealth of roses and glass display cabinets. A girl with - I kid you not - mint green hair stood by the cash register, her wide eyes locked with Adam"s, but I let my gaze go past them.
"It"s fine, Dellie. Go," said the softest, sweetest voice in the world.
"Hello. My name is Regina."
#
She was so, so pretty with her mint green hair, big brown eyes, smooth dark skin dusted with silver sparkles, and pointed little ears...
My mate was a fairy?
Just ask her name, Adam.
Giggling, Georgina held her hand out to me.
Her eyes sparkled with love, admiration, and enthusiasm, and I found myself stepping closer so I could hold her small hand in mine. The top of her thick, pretty hair came to just below my pecs, and I swallowed hard.

While throwing most of the dishes in the kitchen at me.
Like I said, legendary temper.
She slid under my arm and laid her head on my chest, and I finally started to relax.
I half-expected her to push me away and give me the sharp edge of her tongue again for mentioning a pup, but thankfully, she only snuggled her face into the center of my chest and hugged my waist.
She nodded, then lifted her head off of my chest to stare up at me. Goddess, I loved those deep, dark black eyes with their thick eyelashes!
"What have I done?" I teased as I rolled my eyes.
#
While the boys popped off at him for "being careless," my eyes went to my own mate and narrowed in speculation. We hadn"t talked about pups yet, but I figured Sara would let me know when she was ready for that.
Most of the time, Bay and I were content to follow her lead. She was a strong, independent woman who knew her own mind, and my wolf and I were happy to float along in her wake.
"Stop looking at me like that," she said out of the side of her mouth.
"Like what, dewdrop?" I popped a chip in my mouth and chewed slowly, still staring at her.
If nothing else, she"d be able to dress her up to her heart"s content, which would make her happy.
"He wouldn"t stop teasing the green fairy, so she gave him what he deserved."
#
Speaking of mates, our girls were happy to hang out with Emmeline, discussing baby stuff probably, and getting to know the fairies. Regina and Georgina Oakley brought along their cousin, Delilah Evergreen, to meet everyone, and I knew I wasn"t the only one who hoped she"d be Reuben"s mate.
Then it happened. Landry handed the ball off to Angelo, who sprinted for the end zone, and Tyler chased after him hell for leather. I was further up the field and ran perpendicular to them, closing in fast.
"He"s such ... a killjoy. I should ... play dead," Angelo muttered in short pants as we heard thunderous footfalls approaching fast.
"You, too," I gasped, putting a hand on my heaving chest.
"I"m fine," Angelo laughed and sat up. "I"m the Angel of Death! I can take a hit, you know."
Angelo wasn"t one to miss an opportunity, though. He wrapped his arms and legs around the big guy before he smashed his lips on Emerson"s.

"Papa seems a little drunk, Mama," I smirked.
I turned to Konstantin.
"Considering the coach is one of our warriors, I don"t think it will be a problem," Tyler laughed.
