17. Ghost
"Areyou absolutely certain there's no trace of Thomas Kapper? What about Tom Kap or Kapper Thompson?"
"James, I understand you're upset. I can't focus with all this shouting," Brian said. I backed off and let him go through his computer. "Nothing for the last six months. I'll extend the search and go back a year and then two years. Do you want me to print it out, and you can help?"
"Sure, give me something to work on," I replied, sitting down and waiting for him to hand me the papers. Glancing at Raider, I suggested, "Why don't you head home to your kids? There is nothing you can do here. I'll let you know once we have any updates."
"Alright, Ghost. I'll keep my ears open, as well. I'm praying you find her soon," Raider said, man-hugging me.
"Thank you. When I got home, I promised her we would go away on a honeymoon. So, I'll find her because we have a trip to take," I said, shaking Raider"s hand, as he pulled me in for another hug.
Two hours later, we were finished looking for Thomas Kapper's name on any homes in this area. Riding home with Spartan, and went into our room. Brian assured me he would continue scouring all the homes within a hundred-mile radius. Hopefully, he would find something that would lead us to Allison.
I touched Allison's things and wished I had any kind of clue. Returning to the kitchen, I found Spartan engaged in a stare-down with Amy. I sat next to Amy. "Hi Amy," I said. She turned toward me for one second and smiled. I looked at Spartan, "How did you not see how much of you was in Amy? Not only does she look like you, but her mannerisms are yours."
"I know I was blind. Now that I see it, I notice everything about her," Spartan admitted with a smile.
"Amy, do you know who your daddy is?" I asked.
"Yes," Amy answered, looking directly at Spartan. "You are my daddy. Can I call you Daddy?"
"Yes, you can call me daddy. Can I give you a hug?" Spartan replied.
"Yes, and you can hug me whenever you want because you're my Daddy," Amy said, wrapping her arms around Spartan.
I walked outside, and Spartan and Amy followed me. I sat on the porch and watched Amy running around. She bent and picked something up.
"What's that?" Spartan asked.
"It's a phone," Amy said.
"That's Allison's phone," I said, standing; Amy handed it to me. "Why would she leave her phone here?"
"Maybe she was planning to take it, but he made her drop it," Spartan suggested.
I was busy checking the phone for clues. As soon as I opened the photos, I knew why she dropped it. "Look," I said, "I wonder if this is Thomas Kapper."
"One way to find out, Benni," I said, heading into the den where Benni had put up a desk so she could do her work.
"Yeah," she replied.
"Is this Thomas Kapper?" I asked, showing her the picture.
"Where did you get that? It's him, but he looks different. Is this Allison's phone? He took her from here. That bastard! Where do you think he took her? He sent me that letter threatening Amy and me, and he's the one who has been trying to kill you," Benni said, shooting a look at Spartan.
"We need to find out where he's taken her," Benni said, shaking her head. "He has his plane, so hopefully, he hasn't taken her far. I can't believe he's done this. Threatening to kill Amy and me… We should call the police. He looks like he's gone off the deep end."
"Fuck, I'm going to kill him," I growled, turning to look at Benni, "I need to know every piece of information you have on this man. Everything. Do you think he'd flee to Spain with Allison? Or do you think he'd harm her?"
"The Thomas I knew wouldn't hurt her, but this isn't the same Thomas, so I don't know what he's capable of. This is my fault. He wanted me to be with him, and he never gave up trying. He'd bring me flowers every day," Benni confessed, taking a deep breath and turning away from Spartan. "I told him I wasn't interested in any man except Amy's father. That's why he targeted Spartan."
