Chapter 12
Chapter Twelve
Vox
Mom and Vivian left this morning to go dress shopping for Homecoming, leaving me home alone. I'm tempted to go next door and pay the little witch a visit. I cross my room and peer out my window to see her blinds are still closed. My phone vibrates in my pocket, pulling my attention from her window. I fish it out to see it’s Archer.
“Yeah?” I say as I answer.
“We’re heading over. Hayze got all the files last night after we left yours.”
“Sweet.”
Before I can end the call he adds, “V, you aren’t going to like some of this shit.” My spine stiffens.
“Why?”
“You and Ezekiel’s dad’s murders aren’t listed in the files under the death of members.”
“Why the fuck not?” I snap angrily.
“We think they are trying to cover it up. I don’t know man, we’ll sort it out when we get there.” He ends the call, leaving me standing here and reeling, then it hits me. They haven’t got them listed because one of the members is the one who filled out the hit against our fathers.
I’ll kill them all.
By the time the three guys walk through the front door, I have paced the length of my house at least thirty times trying to tame my anger. Ezekiel’s face mirrors how I feel, he looks like he’s on the verge of strangling anyone who looks at him wrong. Hayze and Archer both look pissed, unlike us, they both still have their dads. Since both mine and Ez’s dads died, their fathers have pulled back from The Brotherhood, much like the four of us they were all best friends as well and have helped mine and Ez’s moms raise us. I know this shit is hard, especially for Ezekiel. A year before his father died his sister drowned, she was just shy of a year younger than him and she was his world.
“I want answers today and if I don’t get them I’m blowing that fucking hall up and killing all those cunts in it.” Hayze, Archer and I all nod our agreement as we move to the sofas and take a seat. Hayze and Arch drop all the files on the coffee table and motion for us to start going through them, so we do.
My eyes begin to burn from reading all fucking day. I drop the file in my lap and groan as I rub my eyes and smack my cheeks to wake myself up. I look around my bedroom and cringe, when Mom and Vi got home we moved to my bedroom so Vivian wouldn’t ask questions about what we are doing. Hayze and Archer are both crashed on the sofa in the corner of my room with papers scattered around and on the floor. I look to the other side of my bed to see that Ez's fallen asleep with his dinner plate, they brought us a few hours ago, still resting on his chest. I take the plate and gather the rest from around my room and go downstairs to wash up. As I’m finishing the last plate, something moving outside the window draws my attention. I place the plate in the drying rack and head out the back door, not turning the outdoor light on.
“No, I'm fine, like I said the rope in the gym broke and I fell.” I creep closer to the edge of my house, all that separates Nova’s backyard from mine is some waist high shrubs that Thomas has trimmed every week by his gardener. I wanted a fence but mom refused, saying it was a waste of money and now, I am inclined to agree since I have a perfect view of Nova walking around her pool in a pair of black booty shorts and an oversized T-shirt. Her long raven hair is piled on top of her head in a messy bun thing.
“Don’t lie to me!” At the sound of a guys voice my eyes narrow—who the fuck is she talking to? Vivian did mention that she thought Nova had a boyfriend back home. I don’t know why the thought of her being with another guy is making me so fucking furious to the point I want to break both their necks!
“I’m not!” she snaps in frustration. “I went to bed after my shower last night and forgot to call you.” I smirk. “If you don’t believe me, look up my school page on Instagram, the cheer bitches snapped pictures of me writhing in pain after I fell.” I make a mental note to have Nicole take that shit down, only we get to fuck with Nova.
“Okay, I believe you.” Her shoulders droop and she relaxes as she stops and flops down onto one of the loungers closest to me. She still hasn’t realized she’s being watched, stupid girl. “I can’t wait to see you.”
“Me too! God, I have missed you so much.” Unable to stand here and listen to more of her bullshit, I stalk forward and break through the shrubs. She leaps to her feet and spins around, her eyes are wide with fright as I approach. I snatch the phone out of her hand and turn the camera to me, the guy looks just as surprised as she does at the sight of me.
“Who the hell?—”
“Fuck off!” I growl as I end the call and toss her phone back to her. She fumbles a couple of times before she finally grasps it.
“What the fuck, Vox?” she snaps.
“Don’t have a conversation outside then.” My excuse is lame but fuck it.
Her face scrunches. “ You came into my backyard, asshole.”
I shrug. “Your point?”
“If I want to have a conversation out here or skinny dip I can and there isn’t a fucking thing you can do to stop me—” Her retort is cut short when I wrap an arm around her waist and pull her to me, then smash my lips against hers. She gasps, giving me the opening I need to plunge my tongue inside her warm wet little mouth. She pushes against my chest but I don’t budge as I flick my tongue across hers. Slowly she begins to relax as I continue to kiss her. The instant her eyes begin to close, I jerk back. She stumbles on her feet but quickly rights herself, then wipes her mouth with the back of her hand.
“You’ll never be able to wipe the taste of me off you,” I bite out, pissed off that she did that.
“Fucking males and thinking they have a right to touch what isn’t theirs and leaving me on edge,” she mutters to herself and winces when she presses a finger to the split on her lip, then pins me with a glare. “Fuck off, Vox. I have an appointment to keep and you sure as shit are not invited!” I watch her stomp her little ass back into her house and slam the door closed, just to make sure I know she is pissed, then she flips the lights off, plunging me into darkness. I smile as I make my way back to my house, but the second I step foot inside, I freeze at the sight before me. A guy in a hood stands there with a gun grasped in his hand and pointed at my head. I can’t see his face so I shift to flick the light on but the cocking of his gun stops me.
“Don’t touch what isn’t yours, she isn’t something to be played with.” I narrow my eyes trying to get a better view of him but fail.
“You need to stay out of matters that don’t concern you.”
“She is my concern, you and your friends back off or I will be forced to intervene and not even your brotherhood will be able to save you from me.” I still at the mention of the Haven Saints.
“No idea what you're talking about, asshole.”
“Thomas has trained you well. Stay clear of the girl or I will take the head of the snake and yours.” He keeps his gun pointed at me as he backs out of the room, leaving me standing here unable to do anything. When I hear the front door click shut, I run through the house and tear it open, darting my gaze around the street trying to catch sight of the fucker but I can’t see him.
“Fuck!” I roar as I stomp back inside and slam the door closed behind me, then cringe when I remember everyone is asleep upstairs. Sure enough I hear the sound of pounding footsteps and wait to see who it is—Archer and Hayze both come into view. I stab a hand through my hair in frustration.
“What happened?” Hayze asks, both of them darting their eyes around the darkened room.
“Some fucker was in the house,” I grit out.
“Who?” Arch asks with a cold edge to his voice.
“I don’t know, he had a hood on and a gun,” I answer.
“The fuck, Vox?” Hayze snaps.
“He warned me to stay away from the little witch.”
“Nova?” I can hear the surprise in Hayze’s voice. I nod.
“I thought Nexus said it was just her and her mom, he never mentioned a guy in their lives.” I nod my head, Arch is right. The little fucker never once mentioned anything about a male in their lives. I would go and question him myself but he’s out of town for the week with his dad and Nova’s mom.
“Looks like we have more work to do. This whole thing is becoming a cluster fuck and is doing my damn head in,” I snarl. “We need to find out what Nexus and Thomas are hiding. We need more information on Nova because now I am more certain than ever that the little witch has information we need to take down her stepfather and Nexus.” Both my boys nod their heads.
Game on little witch.
