"I can't wait for that either, Dad. Ok, I'm about to go over the Causeway, and I want to be able to pay attention. I'm going to let you guys go, but can you do me a favor?"
"Anything, Tiger."
"Yes, anything, Paige."
"Can you check in on Kari every few days? I recognize that look in her eyes. I have seen it in the mirror every day since Anna left for school. Until recently, anyway."
"Consider it done," my mother promised.
"Drive carefully, sweetheart. We will talk to you soon."
I heard another clatter and the muffled voices of my parents, most likely coming through my dad's pocket.
"How about BLTs for lunch?"
"How about a nice chicken salad?"
"Why do you hate me, woman?"
I ended the call, already knowing how the debate would end. Chicken salad.
